  1. Thanks Adam Appreciate it All the best Pete Thanks Iain Been spending a lot of time here lately. It's very cold t that the moment where I live. Flying around here, "little bit of sand sprinkled on my desk figuratively" , a nice glass of Italian bubbly by my side , "literally" and its just like being there Pete Thanks Mike It is really nicely done in my opinion Lots to occupy the time just sightseeing as well as flying Cheers Pete
  2. Hi Paul These are outstanding! I especially like the ambience of the second to last one. It made me think "doesn't matter what is going on around them, they only have eyes for each other". One minor thing , that I struggled with until I found out what had happened. In Su10 I think it was , Asobo added a custom airport and scenery for KAVX, along with the harbour area. It's almost a perfect overlay for the Orbx one, but not quite e.g. there are two flags in the inner court yard and some vehicles are misplaced with respect to the Orbx folks as well as some buildings are in odd places down by the harbour. If you go into the content manager , you can search for KAVX and delete it . This will remove the Asobo rendering and allow the Orbx work to render correctly. If you ever want it back, you can just reinstall it, as it will show in the content manager as uninstalled. Cheers & just gorgeous images I love em all!! Pete
  3. Lots more exploring to do here I thought that if I "snuck in" with the Pan Am livery ( freeware for Orbx & SimHeaven ) , no one would notice that I wasn't exactly a modern jet. Luckily I'm still here and had a chance to have a quick look. It was early morning, so it wasn't too busy So far so good .... Got everything shut down, and no one came buy to say you can't park here. We're all good to go! Immediately, I really liked the quirky nature of the place ... Just the spot to first arrive for an Italian holiday. My initial reaction was that this place was small, but then I realized I really needed to have a good look It's not , by the way and stretches on for quite a way. Why do I have the vague feeling that is it door A or door B and will you end up at the same spot when you come through? Decisions ... Just a comment from a modeling fidelity point of view. This airport is very well done , with great detail. I especially like the fact that the vegetation is of the same quality as the rest of the assets. Well done guys, very well done indeed! As I mentioned earlier , there is a lot to this place. Where I live it's cold, and snowy and the days are short at the moment. Taking a quick drone tour through Lica, was just the tonic to make me dream again of the next vacation somewhere warm and sunny Its nice to see the firefighting scoopers all set up and ready to go when needed... And as you can see this is as far as I got. Time for bed and more exploring to do. Who knows I might even try a landing or two ... but don't hold your breath that I will manage the DC3 And to the team at Orbx - Well done folks . This is a classic and a great jumping off point for exploring this part of the world. You've exceeded expectations on this one! Cheers Renault
  4. Just me plodding along in a cessna out and about in Oz. just a km or two from Mackay in Queensland. But what struck me, is this sim is is starting to look pretty reasonable ( I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so humour me on this one ) I have REX accusseasons set to update every few days and it is interesting to observe springtime down under as each flight is just that little bit different. Cheers Pete SU11 - DX12 , DLSS set to Auto
  5. They're all still off shopping at the extended Black Friday sales John They will be back when they run out of money! Fantastic shots
  6. Take time to understand another's perspective, before you try to give them yours Don't ever stop believing in your dreams regardless of how old you become We're all imperfect - cut others some slack when they need it.
  7. Hi John Thank you for sharing this. It is really a nice feeling to read that "forever" actually does exist in real life after all. I wish you and your beloved lady, many, many more happy times together. And good to hear that DX12 is working nicely for you as well All the best Pete
  8. This is wonderful stuff I noticed at another website that there were a great many complaints about an annoying rattle in the Beaver. Unfortunately many were accompanied with the obligatory negative comments that seem to accompany any new MS2020 offering . They stopped shortly after it was mentioned that one could simply tighten up the oil filler cap to stop the rattle. Imagine that ! This level of detail and realism is just simply outstanding . It's a wonderful time to be involved in this hobby Thank you for sharing this Nick.... It made my day, well possibly the whole week ! Cheers Pete
  9. Here is an article that explains what this setting does ... https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/reflex-low-latency-platform/ Since my preferred "operational mode" for MS2020 is a Cessna 152, locked at 30 fps i.e. low and very slow I can , after conclusive testing report that ... On my system , for my type of flying this setting has nada, zippo , nul, none .... no difference in anything that I can see However, your individual mileage may vary and I could see how this option could affect behaviors at much higher fps or with much faster aircraft than my preference. It is very good that with each update we are treated to technology options which are designed to enhance our flight sim experience. Cheers Pete
  10. Hi Wolfgang It is good to hear that you have a technology solution that works for you and you can enjoy MS2020. All the best Pete
  11. Thanks John and apologies to Bakern @Bakern Correct version is 526.86 Senior moment time struck when I was typing. Sorry Cheers Pete
  12. Hi Don Sorry to hear you are having issues. The comment you made in relation to a answer to John D Thanks John, can't quite understand why now? I haven't had this problem before the update. Asobo has been known throughout many updates to change some items related to how they describe the internal file/folder structures that are an integral part of any download that you put into the community folder. In any community folder item, within the folder that you downloaded and installed there always will be two files called layout.json and manifest.json In addition there are often other .json files depending on what the add on developer has put into their product. These files tell MS2020 what is in the addon and more importantly how to find certain specific items . E.g. in the layout.json file for example there are specific entries for the path, size and date of every item that is part of the addon Unfortunately, if you have a folder that worked for Su10 as an example , if Asobo has respecified their description , or if they have added to the description beyond that used in a previous MS2020 version this update will either not work, stop MS2020 from loading or cause a CTD At flightsim.to, when you are down loading a file, there is always an indicator which sim update the addon has been tested with. If you are downloading a non Su11 file, you just need to be aware that it make work perfectly fine, or it may cause you issues (this is why products such as addons linker are so helpful). Some thoughts .... 1) You mentioned a while ago that you had malware on your machine . What did you use to remove it, and if you now have a commercial product such as Malwarebytes have you looked at its detection history to see if it has quarantined any files, especially any that may be part of your MS2020 installation. 2) Are you now completely sure that your machine is clean and have you checked ? 3) Then I would suggest you try the following: a) Close MS2020 b) Sign out of the XBox app and the MS Store c) Restart your PC d) Sign back into the MS Store first and then sign into the Xbox app e) Then try MSFS2020 again. 4) If this doesn't work and you are completely sure that your machine is clean and you are using a commercial malware solution, temporarily turn off the malware program and try to start MS2020 again. If you are still having difficulties then follow these steps for Microsoft Defender (again only if you are completely sure your machine is clean) These steps are from the second microsoft article link that I have posted below.... DISABLE YOUR SECURITY SOFTWARE Antivirus and malware checkers can close down or prevent certain applications from launching, even if they are legitimate and safe. Open Windows Defender and turn off real-time protection. In the Cortana search box, type "Windows Security" Open "Windows Security" > "Virus & Threat protection" > "Manage settings" Disable "Real-time protection" Stop Windows Defender from blocking Microsoft Flight Simulator by adding the launcher to the exclusions list Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions. Select Add an exclusion, and then select Microsoft Flight Simulator. A folder exclusion will apply to all subfolders within the folder as well. Temporarily disable your security program(s) before launching Microsoft Flight Simulator False positives occur when your antivirus software incorrectly identifies safe software as malicious. If your antivirus or anti-malware falsely flagged Microsoft Flight Simulator remove the file from quarantine if necessary then whitelist Microsoft Flight Simulator. To do so follow the instructions from your manufacturer. Sample of Virus & malware checkers that have been known to prevent Microsoft Flight Simulator from launching: Malwarebytes Trend Micro Maximum Security Comodo Antivirus Sophos Emisoft Anti-Malware Avira Avast & Avast Cleanup Bullguard If the sim loads normally after disabling your security program, whitelist Microsoft Flight Simulator before turning the program back on. To do so, refer to your security software's support website. First Microsoft article https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406039624338 Second Microsoft article (source of the above security program steps https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406047820690-All-versions-Sim-freezes-or-crashes-before-loading-fully I hope this is of some help Cheers Pete
  13. Hi Nick so far, not one MSFS update has done anything to the Community folder and there seems to be no case at all for renaming or moving it. I had understood that from the outset, it would only be a first step in diagnosing a problem with the simulator, removing all addons in one go and leaving just the default. I completely agree with you on this. In my case as well I have never seen an update corrupt an existing entry in the community folder. However, Asobo has changed the organization of their file structures between updates and I think there is a case that if this happens with an update, then an existing community folder entry may not be well liked by the new version. It can simply not work, or worse case cause a CTD. Because of this , I tend to remove everything from the community folder. I use Addons Linker so it is very easy. I also split up my addons in two and create two temporary presets for that split. Then I do the update and then make a first run just to make sure that all is good with an empty folder. Then I load the first preset in Addons linker & apply it and if all is good then I add the second half. The only time I have ever had a problem was with Henrik's boats and this was in the SU11 beta. But the purpose of a beta for me is purely to find out if an interim update breaks things and it is successful if you find it does, and the developer can then sort it out before the final release. In the case of the release SU11 all is good. Cheers Pete
  14. You might want to have a look at a comment I added to Iain's thread I have a suspicion that it may be a driver related issue and the most recent Nvidia driver update (525.86) specifically addresses the issue. This was also confirmed by John Heaton @John Heaton with the 525.47 driver which was the one just before the 525.86 The latest driver 525.86 is working really nicely on my system. Cheers Pete
  15. I am really pleased with how it is turning out. Cheers Don I accept responsibility , but you know your way around these things so have fun I did see what you wrote earlier and I was going to give it a go. . I attended a gaming forum a few weeks ago , and so I knew that there was an update to the .47 driver coming out shortly. Nvidia is working a lot on improving DX12 performance as it is now becoming quite widely accepted in the gaming community. So I decided to wait and go with the .86 one. Cheers John & thanks for commenting.
  16. @Iain Emms Hi Iain Since I can't sim , along with the rest of the world I thought it might be more helpful to put together a few screenshots to go with the "techie jargon". This is just a snapshot of my desktop. For whatever reason, my P State is always at a P8 , even though GPU usage is 0% I did notice that this seems to be unique to Win 11 as it was a lower setting with Win 10. The P state doesn't refer to a power draw per cie , but is more related to the GPU & memory clocks (frequencies that your GPU runs at), fan speeds etc to give a particular performance capability. In the Nvidia Control Panel, I specify Maximum Performance capability for the GPU when MS2020 starts. I do this as I found that I would get significant stutters if the setting was left at Normal or adaptive as the card was "ramping" its performance settings up and down as usage varied in MS2020. As soon as MS2020 starts up, the Power state switches to P0 which is the Prefer Maximum 3D performance state ... Although it has switched, the GPU usage is still 0% And lastly, this screenshot shows MS2020 running and rendering in 3D. GPU usage is 33% When you exit and return to the desktop for a few seconds the P state stays at P0 and then switches to P5 and finally to P8 which for me is its idle performance state. Hope this helps a bit. Now off to read a book for the rest of the day Cheers Pete
  17. Hi Iain Yes, it is a bit of a dog's breakfast at the moment. I just checked on my system and I have the wonderful red message saying you are not connected. This is a link to a useful MS site regarding the whole gaming environment Xbox Status | Xbox Support Anymore, most days I check it first before I start up MS2020. It doesn't solve the frustration of the system being down, but at least you didn't wait to go through the entire MS2020 startup routine just to be told you're not connected. With regard to the graphic card message this may shed some light on it. Apologies as it is really deep down in the weeds of GPU behaviour. From Nvidia docs..... P-States are GPU active/executing performance capability and power consumption states. P-States ranges from P0 to P15, with P0 being the highest performance/power state, and P15 being the lowest performance/power state. Each P-State, if available, maps to a performance level. Not all P-States are available on a given system. The definitions of each P-State are currently as follows: P0/P1 - Maximum 3D performance P2/P3 - Balanced 3D performance-power P8 - Basic HD video playback P10 - DVD playback P12 - Minimum idle power consumption The latest Nvidia driver 525.86 has a release note item concerning a bug fix " GPU may get stuck in P0 state after exiting certain games " I'm very far from having any in-depth understanding of such things, but my limited understanding is that what may be happening is when you exit from MS2020 the GPU gets stuck in the Maximum 3D performance state. When you start up again, the "P or Power State" is supposed to be on Auto and will select an appropriate level, even if you have specified maximum performance e.g. it is dependent on what you are doing on your system. I have this driver on my system, and it really is working well for me. Performance in DX12 is really nice and smooth and DX11 is just super. Just a speculative thought so take this with the proverbial grain of salt that this may be the cause of the problem and the fix for it. Hope this may be of some help. Cheers Pete
  18. To be honest, I was both surprised and disappointed with DX12 performance with the latest 40th anniversary update. DX12 performance was best described as "odd" - it didn't seem that either my CPU or GPU was overloaded but I was getting fps numbers around 18 -20 I have everything on ultra, 1440p, locked at 30 fps , LOD at 175 . Putting everything down to low and LOD at 5 and nothing changed which made me rather suspicious. This was with the Nvidia 522.25 driver. It was very smooth and didn't act like the fps was so low, but the main thread was running at about 80 Just plain peculiar ... DX11 performance was pretty much the same as I had been getting with su10. Over the last few days I have been following a lot of tests in other DX12 games with the latest 522.86 driver. Release notes and results in various videos elaborated on the improved DX12 memory optimization in this driver , although there is nothing in its release notes regarding MS2020. I upgraded from the 522.25 driver to the latest 522.86 driver and in my cases the results were staggering. Memory utilization is about 500 MB less than in SU10 DX12 and GPU utilization measured with CPU-z is about 10% less . This is subjective of course, but it is the smoothest DX12 experience I have had to date and is much more fluid than in DX11. I'm not a fps "chaser", for me it is about visual fidelity and fluid behaviour with no stutters. So if you are experiencing difficulties with the 522.25 driver in DX12 , I would really recommended this as an alternative. If you are not, or are happy with DX11 performance, then the old adage applies. " Don't mess with success ..... " I hope this may be of help if you are experiencing difficulties. But if you aren't and did get this far, thank you for taking the time to read through this note. Be happy that the girl you went to the dance with is the one who you will see again and stick with what is working well for you. Cheers Pete I have attached test screenshots I took at Orbx Mackay and one in the harbour at Skiathos This is with DX12 and DLSS at Quality settings And a few randoms....
  19. Great Screenshots Don It is really good to see that your new system is "settling in" Cheers Pete
  20. Very Well Done to both of you They are outstanding screenshots in every way! Cheers R
