  1. Thank you so much Jack And thank you for your continued support. It is very much appreciated Cheers Pete Thank you Carlos Cheers Pete
  2. Thanks Jack It is very much appreciated. I was able to get to a back button, but it seems to control other things and did nothing for the brightness dialogue I found that if you shut the sim down (i.e, go back to the main menu) it does get rid of that dialogue though. Also I found if you push the nrst key, multiple times it cycles through and then gets rid of the brightness menu which isn't very intuitive although it did leave one line with some information about that system on the screen. Your suggestion was logical and made sense to me. Thanks again for your assistance. I thought if anyone here would understand such things it would be you and I was right It just seems that some parts of this product are not quite modeled completely to the real life counterpart though is perhaps the best explanation. Cheers Pete
  3. But if truth be told this is the best flight sim of all Because I can take it out with my 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter and she loves to chase it and bring it back to me to watch it fly again. And the fps is just fantastic too https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3440828
  4. I just enjoy what I have and try to always just live in the moment This brings to mind what I asked a friend once (he was a very talented photographer) what is the best camera to have? His answer was the one you have with you at the time. I think that this applies to many things we experience in life. And as so many of you have said "we are all fans of the genre, which is flight simulation" . How we do it and what we do it with doesn't matter as much as we enjoy what we do. Cheers Pete
  5. Hi Don I was finally able to find a video that was of help. It is for the Working Title version of the Garmin 1000 , but the instructions at timestamp 5:24 do give guidance on how to set screen brightness and I was able to get it to work with the Kodiak default Spoiler alert : For someone like myself with very limited skills with such things , I found this to be very, very confusing and the most frustrating thing I have ever tried to do. There is nothing at Simworks Studio's website , except for a vague comment in the frequently asked questions section which suggests turning the panel brightness knobs. This does nothing on my version ( I have it updated through Orbx Central so I assume it is the latest). What I found worked for me is to have both the sim running with the display zoomed in and also the video loaded in a browser. I had to go over and over and over the instructions to get it to work. Basically you press the menu button on the display and then the enter button and you will get the following menu popup as shown in the screenshots. I eventually set mine to be on auto at 100% (with a lot of button pushing e.g. try this and see if the darned thing will work) Basically the buttons are the ent key just below menu and the outer button on the FMS knob below the menu which will move the selection through to auto . You then press the ent key and it switches it to manual Then you move the outer button again to go to the 100 which is the brightness value Then if you turn the inner knob on the fms knob this value will change You can leave it set at this , i.e. with a manual setting or do what I did and use the outer knob to put it back to auto. You need to rotate the outer knob to cycle through the MFD/PFD Displ settings to get back the PDF manual setting Then if you push ent it will switch it to auto again. What is shown in the two screenshots is that I was able to set it up to work in auto and the screens brightness for me at 100 is good for both 4:00 am and also at noon, which is what the two represent. I found that you can also set it to a lower value for both items and switch to auto and that seems t work also. I have no idea how to get out of the setup menu as everything I tried didn't work. As I said at the beginning I have no skills with aircraft that have this level of complexity. Its enough to make me go back to my default cessna 152 or the Goose which are very old school I know Don, but I am strictly a very much armchair pilot. I appreciate that there are other members who are very much skilled with all of these options and I admire you greatly for the skills you have and the enjoyment you get from flying and programming these systems. Its just not moi, and very much beyond my pay grade which is why i stick with very basic aircraft. I hope this will be of help to you. Better yet , if there are any members who actually are experts with this system, I and Don would sincerely appreciate your help. Jack @Jack Sawyer is this something you understand and could help with please ? Thanks! Cheers Don All the best Pete 4:00 am Noon
  6. Hi Don Sorry I misread your original question. I can confirm what you are asking as the same happens to me. It seems to be a bug with the brightness of the screens. If you start from cold and dark, regardless of time of day the screen brightness is very readable , although on mine, the controls don't change anything. If you start with crtl + E, or using Nicks suggestion to start on a runway, all the systems are on, but the screens are so dim as to be non readable. It only is if it is dark outside, that they look ok, And yes, I would agree that they look "fogged" but I think it is because they are not illuminating properly and are very dim. Have you checked the developers website to see if there is any info there. It is now very early in the morning where I live, so I try to have a look later today when I am up again. Cheers Pete
  7. Saw it in the lobby of a hotel we stayed at recently... I think many days it applies to me Cheers Pete
  8. Hi again Don Also found this one in my little help folder I built myself This is useful after the last update for the Kodiak a few months ago I manage to "blow up" the engine when I start on a fairly regular basis Hope this helps Cheers Pete
  9. Thanks Wayne I never thought of that ! It really made me chuckle Made my day. Cheers Pete Thank you Paul All the best Pete Thank you so much Ilias Cheers Pete Thank you Cheers Pete Thanks Landon! All the best Pete Thanks Mikee Cheers Pete
  10. Hi Don I have never experienced this. But I don't start using crtl + E I found this video and I always start using the procedure described in the video Perhaps you could try this and see if you still have the fogging issue. Cheers Pete
  11. Thank you Landon It is very much appreciated I see runway and then the next thing, off the range you go. That pretty much described what happened. I think that I came in to fast (didn't realize that a little plane could be speed demon) , hit the brakes too late and next thing the end of the runway lights were coming up very, very quickly and Bob's your uncle and i'm in the grass listening to the crickets. Need to work on my technique a lot more Cheers Pete Thank you As far as FPS goes at the moment, for me it is pretty much on pare with DX11. However, it is silky smooth and offers so much more potential to be great than does DX11 imho. At the present time, image quality as best as I can tell is pretty much identical, but I believe in the future that will change considerably. One thing to realize is that DX12 is identical to Vulkan in one respect. It is a graphics API that is very much closer to the coalface as they say. In other words a lot of the interface that DX11 provides in terms of system management, which means basically that things take more time to execute doesn't exist in the DX12 design. As a result the GPU and CPU are linked much more closely together, which means that a great deal of the processing overhead is eliminated and graphics is executed much more quickly. This also means that the alternative to do much more in terms of improved graphics quality and visual fidelity is much higher in DX12 without incurring a huge processing load to the graphics engine. But it does mean that a lot of things that were handled pretty much automatically in DX11 have to be dealt with more directly by the graphics game developer in DX12 to get optimal performance. Such things like resource allocation in the GPU and memory management are handled by the graphics rendering engine itself, rather than the drivers as in Dx11. This means in DX12 that the workload will be distributed across cores in a multicore CPU much more evenly if it is optimized properly. However this optimization does take time to get developed . The biggest advantage to DX12 though is that it is a true multi processing graphics environment. In DX 11 basically everything was done an item at a time, whereas in DX12 many events can be handled simultaneously. This means that in a graphics scene, things that are changing can be given more priority while those that are not are given less. So for example an airplane flying against a sky background through a DX12 process called motion adaptive shading, the developer can provide stellar image quality to the plane while devoting less resources to the sky which may be changing less rapidly between frames. In DX11 the entire scene is rendered the same every frame. Anyone who was part of the XPlane Vulkan beta, will remember how many integrations were required before they got the memory allocation in Vulkan to behave. So basically there is a lot of work to do in the journey before the end result comes. When I retired I decided I needed to learn something new to keep my brain cells as active as I could. I have always been fascinated by how computer images are generated and decided that would be something worth learning about. In my case, I ended up writing all my own shaders to adjust image quality in MS2020 , and before that in DX11. So in MS I turn all the graphics, sharpening etc off in the configuration files and for better or worse, what you see in my screen shots is my own doing. There is no post processing involved after a screenshot is taken, aside from basic colour management principles to imbed a .icc file in the image to ensure that what you see on a web browser is as close as possible to what is rendered on my computer. In other words what I see is what you get. For me it has become a fascinating hobby in its own right and something which I have come to enjoy as much as flying and exploring the world in MS. Thanks for the questions . I appreciated them All the best Pete Simply put, I'm probably the worst flyer of anyone in these forums, but I enjoy myself immensely. Cheers Bernd Pete Thank you Paul Different. What he has done is to work out a very nice way of combining the settings for cloud layers etc together to get the results Think of them as presets basically that combine what is available in the weather screen. Cheers Pete Thanks John Cheers Pete Thank you iain All the best Pete
  12. Just a few at KSBA, after a win11 reinstallation .... Don't ask, I don't wish this on anyone MS2020 Beta 10, DX12, DLSS - Quality mode and my usual poor piloting skills. Well maybe a bit better than usual because it was quite windy. All I can say is I think the runways shrunk! I remember them being a lot longer than this. Or maybe my brakes failed.... who knows but I remained upright and no flight simmers were injured in the making of this sequence Cheers all Pete Clouds are the latest from Floyd's Epic Clouds available at flightsim.to If you aren't into real weather, I really recommend them highly. Just a folder drop into the community folder and very good quality with no noticeable impact at all on system load. They then show up in the Weather dropdown along with all the other clouds
  13. Me as well Very nicely done sir! Cheers Pete
  14. Thanks Pete Good one John !! Cheers Pete Thank Jack . I love your comment ! Cheers Pete Whoops !!
  15. Hopefully this will give you a bit of a grin in these trying times the world is struggling with. It is a single seater version, handles like a dream and is just a load of fun to fly. Controls are simple, throttle makes you go , stick controls everything as normal, and optional sound effects are from the flaps. And it has the most pleasant blue led accent lighting. Available from flightsim.to . The gold enhanced livery is also available for download All the best everyone Cheers Renault RexAccuseason trees Freeware from Flightsim.to
  16. It is a fun little aircraft that I like a great deal "I wonder how it performs in the sim compared to real life." I have no idea, and anything I could offer would be pure speculation on my part , so my best answer is I simply don't know But a great opportunity for you to go do some sleuthing on your own Jack All the best Cheers Pete
  17. No worries You're definitely enjoying yourself with MS2020 That is good to see Cheers p
  18. Thank you It is that. The idea is a very good one , although it seems it had a very tough time early on. Apparently just as the company was getting started, a fire destroyed the factory and the company dissolved at that point. But times change, and it may again become useful. If you were to Goggle it, you would find some info although it is fairly sparce ... Here are two articles that I found that I thought you might be interested in ... This Incredible Plane: Edgley Optica - Plane & Pilot Magazine (planeandpilotmag.com) Accident Edgley EA-7 Optica G-KATY, 15 May 1985 (aviation-safety.net) And a short video Edgley Optica - Bing video Hope this is of some help Cheers Pete
  19. I would hope so John, but it might be a little too "tame" for him! Thanks Landon A helicopter after many attempts is just way, way .... I mean way beyond my skill level. The Edgely suits me to a "T" All the best Pete Indeed it is Martyn! It's an observation I have been making for some time with MS2020 Compared with other sims, as a generalized comment, the proliferation of freeware scenery that often exceeds some payware products is really refreshing to see. There are a lot of very talented folks out there who have taken to this sim like a duck to water. interesting to see the Pipistrelle factory, I had a Virus fly over my house on Saturday. That would have been really cool to see. If you ever want to get an inside look , let me know... As you can see , they know me here
  20. The Edgeley Optica is a "quirky" little aircraft that is a lot of fun to fly. It is ideally suited for a little grass strip airport like this one. Thanks for viewing Cheers Pete MS2020 Su10 Beta 1.27.17.0 , DX12 Aircraft - Orbx Edgley Optica Airport - Neptune11 freeware - flightsim.to RexAccuSeasons I really enjoy the consistency in this scenery. Everything is modeled to the same high quality standards. I love the Optica for sightseeing. It seems a perfect role for this model...
  21. Sorry John, I have no interest in VR and have never investigated What makes you say that ? I didn't realize that you could take screenshots of it. Thanks Pete Thanks very much JM It is appreciated All the best Pete Thanks Paul Cheers Pete Thanks Martyn Its a "fav". I especially like it because I don't feel like I'm trying to learn how to fly an apple watch like I do with most of the stuff these days. Pure and simple is all I want Cheers Pete Thanks Wayne Cheers Pete Hi Calum Good to see you back Thank you . I'm pleased you enjoyed it All the best Pete Thank you Iain See you Pete Thanks Jack Cheers Pete
  22. Good for you John "have had no issues at all" And that unfortunately is the crux of the problem. Some don't and are very happy with the beta, others have had significant issues. Overall I am very pleased with the beta but am disappointed with ... 1) DLSS is a bit of a letdown. I know what it is capable of from other interests and at the moment it is a poor implementation and not representative of what it can be. 2) DX12 has a memory optimization issue that is very noticeable at times for a user with a 8 GB Vram card. For those with 10-12++ GB vram it seems to not be an issue. 1) And the purpose of the beta - look for things that don't work properly and/or are not properly optimized. Document and report them to the developer. 2) Listen carefully to the people participating in the beta and respond accordingly by fixing what is wrong and retest, even though it may delay the final release of the updated version of the program. It is gratifying that Microsoft is responding to this beta in the fashion that they are. For me, forget all the technical details of the beta for the moment . That is the real winner for all users of MS2020 Cheers Pete
  23. Just the two. Thanks very much for viewing Cheers Pete
