This is considered one of the most challenging aircraft to fly in the world now (just the accidents rate proves it). An elongated frame from the DC10 version but with the same rudder size added instability so they had to increase technology to make the flying easier. But many pilots realized that they were lagging the appropriate knowledge when weather conditions made things more complicated. In 2015, FedEx will start slowly getting rid of them, due to fuel comsumption. The only one remaining that carries passengers is from KLM and it does the route from Montreal to Amsterdam on saturdays, but I don't know for how long.
