Sale Nearly Over - What have you bought and recommend?

With just over two days of the Orbx sale to go, I am trying to decide what to buy. I would love to buy everything but that would burn too big a hole ::)

I now own all regions except New Zealand. This is one purchase I will definitely make later today. My sales purchases so far are Alice Springs, CRM, PFJ and Ketchikan.

However, where I am really stuck is which of the remaining PNW airports should I buy. I already own Concrete, Cushman and Fall City.

I am looking for something with nice scenery and features. I have been considering Diamond Point, Jefferson, and Harvey Field (though I'd be curious for your thoughts and feedback on the purchasing order of these). I have left Goheen out but any thoughts on this one as I am strongly considering it.

What about the rest? Anacortes, Skagit, Darrington, Starks etc. Would you strongly recommend any of them above the others I have listed?

Any feedback on the list I am strongly considering or on the others I have mentioned would be greatly appreciated.

I know that all Orbx products are incredible but unfortunately I, like many of us, must pick and choose rather snap them all up at once ;D.

I am also curious what you have all bought in the sale and what your best buys have been.

Cheers,

Steve

Welcome to the club of "Too many things, too little money." LOL The delima is; if it's too costly now to get everything, whatcha gonna do next month when the price reverts? I've got a list in front of me right now with all the NA airfields listed with various number of check marks by each trying to prioritize my purchases. I'll most likely get 'em all except the larger airports so I'll have enough $$ to pick a couple AU fields like Alice Springs and Caloundra and possible Warnervale. Fortunately, there are a lot of "improved" strips in Au thanks to OZx. Those, along with orbX's pasion of tweaking even the smallest site at least a bit, means I can focus on NA -- for now.

Don't forget Jackson Hole and other delicious bits are coming down the road soon.

Ain't simming fun???

The best idea is to look at what is going to be the the one, that will be most expensive after the sale ends. That's what I did. I think a good 90% of us are in the same financial boat as you and the candyshop owner has made us want more than we can afford of his candy. NZSI is what I would go for if you have all the other regions. The airports are so good in NZSI that they are almost up to par with some addon ones (well almost). That way you don't have to rush and buy anything else to go with it..

So $22-95 now or $44-95 next week and you will be kicking yourself..

The best airports I have bought in PNW are Orcas and Skagit. But all that other candy.. :'( :'( :'(:wacko::blink:

Hi Steve31000!

I highly recommend you to get PFJ together with Ketchikan - those are AMAZING! Plus there is some really nice freeware scenery made for PFJ by RTMM Team (Return to Misty Moorings).

Performance at PAKT (as well as in the whole PFJ area) is excellent, I easily get 40+ with my system. You won't be disappointed.

Otherwise, all addons you mentionned are really nice. Be aware though that Anacortes can be quite heavy on FPS, depending on your machine (it is still some awesome piece of scenery!).

Cheers,

I got NRM and NZSI. So far I have flown in NZSI the most, but I did take a flight in NRM, and from my first impressions I can highly reccommend it, not only is the quality of the textures and autogen tremendous but with NRM you get 570,000 square kilometers of new scenery!

Definitely pick up every region you can while they are 44% off.

I see you already have the AU DVD, you should pick up NZ and PFJ if you enjoy beautiful mountains and landscapes as they are both top notch.

CRM is a huge area, and although the Snake River Valley which lies in the heart of CRM is somewhat sparse in excitement, the surrounding areas along the Idaho/Montana/Wyoming/Oregon borders are all gorgeous. Also, specific scenery highlights like Craters of the Moon, Yellowstone National Park and the many Buttes are not to be missed.

Also don't forget that the recently announced Jackson Hole Airport in Wyoming that covers the entire Grand Teton area is within CRM and looks to be a fantastic airport addition to the Orbx library.

I haven't bought anything and won't even if I could (paypal takes over a week to transfer funds) and I don't like download only products (my net maxes at 52kb/s so any download takes an extremely long time). Besides, I prefer hard copies of my stuff for when it does fail (as computers always do no matter the generation).

I know you are looking for PNW airports BUT....do get Tamworth . Its a great regional , one of my favourites.

I am seriously thinking about Diamond Point. That area in the photos look beautiful.

I bought both... And I can only second that - YSTW and 2WA1 are wonderful!

HI,

i like them all ..........

and i have buy at the sale the full au scenery and 14 au airports ......

but sorry ,without prepay or sales, that´s the last airports i have buy........(i have all pnw airports, only the last i miss)

around 30$ are to much money for me for one airport wat i not use much......(land at pakt last months 4 times)

they are all great in detail, and i can understand the cost for the work for an airport.....

but i must also work hard for my money.

so i think at moment, for full price i buy only scenery in future if some new must have comes for fsx.................

Thanks for the advice. It would seem NZSI is the most popular. I have just purchased it, along with Diamond Point, Harvey Field and Jeffereson County!! Just to clarify, I have already bought PFJ, CRM, Ketchikan and Alice Springs in the sale (and also the Lancair). I'm downloading Diamond Point as I type this. I had to go with that one first as I visited this place two years ago and found it's beauty remarkable. I'm sure this will be well replicated by Orbx.

I'm now also contemplating Skagit Regional, Anacorte and Twin Oaks (my poor credit card  ). I was tempted to go with Tamworth but I do most flying now in the US.

It really is tempting to get them all and I might just get all 3 of the ones above but I'll see. I also just bought the new Carenado C90 last night. If anyone is still on the fence with that, then trust me, it is really well done. I would strongly recommend it.

Just ordered the last 11 apts. in AU region. Orbx collection is now complete.

Still downloading. 2nd one just completed. Downloads speeds are slower than usual due to more traffic at FSS?

It's gonna be a looooong day.

Yea, this sale had me scrambling this month. I had little room in my bank account so I sold stuff on eBay and did extra jobs to get extra funds before the sale deadline arrives. I did everything I could short of becoming a male escort to take advantage of this sale. Thanks again Orbx for all your exceptional work and for providing this sale this month.

I got Alice Springs, Wollongong and NZSI in the end. I was always going to get Alice but decided on the other two at the last minute. I umm'd and ahh'd about getting PNW but decided against it. The American scenery doesn't really appeal at the moment and I'm still exploring AU (and now NZ) and likely will be for a while yet. The first North America scenery I get will likely be Northern California; thats the one I'm really waiting for. Also seriously thinking about FTX GB when it comes out. Can't decide whether to wait for that or get the Generation X photographic scenery from Horizon.

I got NZ , but after 14 attempts to download from various servers still have not suceeded,

wish I'd opted for the disc !

Hi Karol,

Do you use a download manager? I am currently downloading from the Australian Server 1 using FlashGet 3.

I downloaded Jefferson 10 minutes ago and am downloading Harvey right now. It is working fine for me.

Yes , I use IDM as download manager , some attempts have gone to over 6 hours ,

it's painfully slow , and its not the connection , I downloaded the VRS Superbug in a brief matter of minutes

a while back.

I use "DownThemAll!" for Firefox.

When I started downloading, the programm told me the file will be downlaoded in 6h or so. I paused and restarted it, nd now NRW should be on my HDD in 30min.

Can't wait, the SP1 and the freeware-airports are already downloaded :D

I've just been exploring the first of my purchases, Diamond Point and I fully recommend it. Amazing value! You also get Olympic Field which is really nice airstrip nearby. Lot's of fun to be had flying between the two. Both exceeded my expectations. Diamond Point really captures the atmosphere of a sleepy sea-side PNW town.

Already had 9 orbx titles when the sale began on April 1 & jumped at this chance to finish my North American collection, which I've now done. Thank you, orbx! :) Have also purchased Australia SP4 along with Alice Springs & Tamworth (the world's first 7 cm rez airport proved irresistible) along with New Zealand South. If my pension check arrives before the end of the sale (doubtful) then I'll continue the purchasing binge by purchasing many more Aussie airports, though with approaching $500 USD for the month (includes another OZx donation) am going to be quite satisfied the way things are. Little by little my hope is to continue steadily acquiring orbx/FTX titles for my flight simulator.

A recommendation is always such a subjective thing, though Cushman Meadows with it's Bear Gulch are what you would want them to be, a refreshing change for FSX software packages. Is a wee piece of GA heaven!

Completed the entire release and longing for new ones! Got myself Caloundra, Coffs Harbour, Wollongong, Warnervale, Jefferson and Swanson. Awesome stuff, as usual!

My personal favorite, probably becasue it was one of the first that I bought remains Hervey Bay!

I just topped off my entire collection (as far as I want to take it that is), getting everything except for Swanson, which I will just wait for one of the vendors to throw on sale at some point down the road (I'm in no rush). It feels good to have picked up everything that I was missing in the NA airfields, along with NZSI (since hearing nothing but amazing things, I figured I'd try it out), and sure am glad to have picked those things up now (for around 143.60) instead of being stuck having to pay a bunch more for it down the road. Thanks Orbx for putting on your "last sale ever!!!!" I look forward to seeing your release of COD6..lol. Really though, it is way better to just suffer through the "being broke" for a little bit now and save all the money you can, rather than waiting to spend even more later on....when the sale will be over!

Well, what a pleasant surprise for me in this final hour of the sale. Have just checked my bank account & amazingly my pension check has already arrived a day earlier than usual! Posted Image 'Tis got me singing even. Look out, FSS, here comes boxcar again... ready to gain more Ausssie airports.

Whew!! ^_^Snuck in just under the wire this final hour to gain another 11 Australian airports. My pension rarely hits my account a day early as it has today but I'm certainly thankful it did... & am especially thankful to orbx for their generous sale this month of April. There's simply no way that I'd have been able to gain so fantastic a collection of top shelf software for my flight simulator without this, the Mother of all orbx sales. 8) Soon, to begin exploring the fine nations of Australia as well as New Zealand. Should be some interesting screenshots coming along before too long...
