Ofotbanen

Recommended Posts

Infrastructure in northern Norway is not easy... from Narvik you can use a plane (obviously), but the runway location is not suited for every plane.

Ship transport is the key: Due to the gulf stream the waters are free of ice all year.

And how are all these freighters filled?

Below us is the answer: The Ofotbanen railway.

It was built to transport ore from todays destination to Narvik, as the closer baltic sea freezes for a long time during winter.

Okay, in summer the Swedish end of the railway is green.

And the mine near Kiruna is free of snow as well.

During the warm season ore can be transported to Lulea, which is much closer than Narvik.

Even flowers on the apron. Lovely.

Excellent and highly informative set of shots thank you - I didn't know any of this stuff - also love flying around this whole area ever since Orbx upgraded it.

Thank you TT. We learned about the climate and the railway in school. Some years ago. Many years ago...
