P3D v5HF2 and the latest written for W2004 nVidia driver....is..

...just KILLER!   Top FPS, smoothness...(let the reader read all about the new 'made for W2004' update driver...whose new capabilities and features for DX12, are only engaged by W2004.)  That has to be the Windows version needed to run the new DX12 supported driver features.  I am running W2004 Pro, and the new DX12 enhanced (latest) driver...one word...the mist, reflections.....smoothness, FPS....the word...WOW!

Just took off....wonderful graphics!

Well, here's what's happening....I downloaded the created for W2004 nVidia driver with enhanced DX12 features, like VRAM DX12 Scheduling (only with W2004!), and after installing, I deleted my P3Dv5HF2 SHADER folder...bye-bye....rebooted my system, went and downloaded the new HF2 compatible AS, and then fired up v5

In the nVidia Driver, I have FPS locked down to 31, and in the sim, I have a setting of 120 FPS.

With P3D v5HF2 and the W2004 nVidia driver, I have never seen better flight sim performance from my current 8 year old system.  I have v5 full right...(except for EA True Sky, not enabled.  I prefer Active Sky, (which can't render properly with EA engaged) doing its cloud 'thing'.   I have now as you can see, very sophisticated water reflections...whereby not only are the mountain shapes and bodies reflected, but even their color pallet for vegetation and such, and not just a collage color blur in the mountain body reflection. No jaggies...perfect life-like water reflections.  P3D v5HF2 is killer smooth, maintains top FPS, and looks #**@((  GORGEOUS!

Cheers,

Also, P3D v5HF2 is now optimized for Hyper Threading...(the more logical and virtual Cores, the better!)   I have a Logical 4 Core CPU, so eight cores seen by W2004 in H.T.   I have Core 0 running system backgrounds, and P3D v5HF2 on the next 7 Cores. To achieve that, I run an Affinity Mask setting of: 254  Runs like a dream!  No forward animation STUTTER.  Oh...a side note...if you use the FXAA feature in P3Dv5,  it WILL introduce stop and start animation stutters.  I run with 4X SA, only.  FXAA is turned off.

Hot!  I just got the updated driver installed, very pleased as well.  I haven't touched affinity mask in v5 yet, so off to tweak!

Affinity Mask=254 on a FOUR LOGICAL CORE CPU, will leave Core 0 for BIOS operations, and Core 1-7 for P3D Ops....works beautifully with each core having head room, and resources to process.  P3Dv5HF2 LOVES H.T. on...and if you have more than 4 logical cores...of course you will have to do some research for your A.M. setting, and what core you want the system to have predominately use of....so the CPU doesn't get bunged up with P3D render, but mostly---> I/O process.

If you are running W2004, be sure to set the Graphics to allow HARDWARE Scheduling and VRAM management, to avail yourself of the new DX12 driver controls.  It's been a fantastic flight experience today... :)  Go to Settings/Devices/Graphics (down near the bottom of the page, and then flip on the feature at the top of the second page. REBOOT!  Have fun!

Hello Orbx Flyer,

Great pics. Thank you for sharing your experience with drivers and stuff. i am about to go and do it now myself.

cheers

Sam

Most happy to post along great experiences!   Here's another article to show you what nVidia is up to, starting with this latest driver suite:

Beautiful pics Mitch. Thank you for your continued inspiration. I'm already on win 2004 and will update to the latest driver ASAP.

It's hard to believe that my i7 2600K is still kicking...

BTW, I upgraded my 1070 to a Pascal with 12gigs of VRAM and added 16gigs of system RAM. Now I have 32gigs of system RAM.

Jose, your system blows mine clear out of that water I took off from, lol.

My system...12 GB's of System RAM,  seriously over-clocked.

EVGA F.T.W. 1070 8GB

i7-Extreme 975 4 Logical Cores at 4.5Ghz

The beauty of it though, Jose...is that it still pumps out the visual goodies, at 30 FPS, with my sims 'cooking'.   Unless it has an infarction....happy to stay with the status quo. :)  If something does fatally go south...I'll go full hog, one last time....64 GB of hot system RAM,  probably a 16 or 18 Logical core monster,  and will pair that with the nVidia 3000 series-whatever's soon coming out.  That would be my Swan Song, my dropping to dust...system.  Happily though, that is just something I threaten myself with....and fortunately don't yet have to put the money, where the mouth is...

Cheers!

Just want to add to the general chorus of wowness here. I'd pretty much stopped using v4 due to the inability to run it anywhere near the levels of detail I like. I'd ordered a new machine anyway, primarily in anticipation of FS 2020, when LM pushed v5 out with its DX12 upgrade. I've now got that installed and everything reinstalled on it, plus the win 2004 update, and today I put the new Nvidia driver on.

And yes, the results are incredible. These pics give you an idea of the level of complexity I can get now. 4k screenies, if you can blow them up do so because this is all about detail. I really do have all the sliders maxed out and pretty much everything turned on (apart from speedtrees, of course). This used to be a slow sideshow for me, now I'm hitting 15-20 fps over the very worst bits of the city and mostly hitting my target rate of 30. And that's at this level of detail and with the camera drawn back to this focal length. In the last picture, the aircraft is over Hoddesdon (if you know the area) and I've annotated a couple of locations and their distance from the aircraft.

Not perfect though. I do still get occasional stutters and pauses in scenarios like this. I'm experimenting with affinity masks to see if that helps, but I'm not really sure of any improvement yet. If anyone has got any advice on that I'm all ears.

But yes, for me v5 is a real winner. V4 is functionally dead on my machine and will be removed once I'm sure I've saved all I need from it. (And this isn't even my favourite sim! The same sort of flight in X-Plane really is like sliding on a greased tray across a butter lake (but not as messy <grin>))

P3D v5HF2, is now a real treat.  When MS2020 comes....it will get installed, but until then...most happy to wait it out.  P3D v5HF2 is NO DOG! :)
