let the testing commence....on a different though related subject, is there any reason for the name Gold Coast? any history there or was it just a name chosen? the area not just the airport that is...

@wain71 + @Stillwater - Originally - the name was Southport - and still is officially - but as time went by - the thousands of visitors that came

to enjoy the miles of GOLDEN Sands and the Surf Breaks - it became what it is today - a tourist Mecca - with high rises - canals - very similiar to

    Miami

You might just spend a moment comparing this with the crappy 10 year old Bin produced on MSFS

Yes it's a new policy, while the scenery is in beta, you can pre-order at the place holder price, or you can wait until the scenery has passed beta testing and the price reverts to normal. 🤣

    Thanks, John, for that.

Without labouring the problem - which is still shown - 3 mins ago - still at the same price - where does it say that in the introduction at the start of this forum

of the software for sale - that advertises this NEW policy of Beta purchases - which seems to be creeping in all over the market these days.

Did I miss an anouncement at some time recently???

    Hello John,
I am feeling a distinct sense of déjà vu.

So in a nutshell, due to your own prudence, there have been hardly any purchases made with only the 20% senior discount applied.

déjà vu. indeed - thanks Nick - for the reply which I do remember quite well - despite the seniority --- and the prudence really stems from

    my Lancashire / Yorkshire upbringing:D

It tends to serve to assist others - that are not so acquainted with Orbx idiosyncrasies as we older persons are

However - I wonder what would happen if I had pressed - "Buy and Install" ?

At least it means we've got a build to test :)

I'll suggest a pensioners discount when I put my report in

    All the best,

    John

    The thought is good John

However - I have been entitled to such a discount for years - but I never seem to get it - on all my full price purchases

  5. Thanks for the thought Wolfco - but it's not really for JH - because JH as had a very good modern GC airport for

    some time on the Marketplace

However just for thought that someone else has gone to the trouble of making what is probably a more update

version of my own airport - it will be a purchase👍

Now ------ if only someone can satisfy my real beef about MSFS - and it's now10 years old depiction of Australia

-and the Gold Coast - and give us a new UpToDate version of both

I took a flight yesterday - in P3D4 - there was my house - on the Orbx Gold Coast scenery from later - than MSFS's

BING - where my house that I have lived in for 10 years is only shown as a building site:angry:

I usually stick within Australia but I would like

to see more of New Zealand north and south islands.

I don't seem to do much flying lately but hopefully

I'll find the time this year.

    cheers

    Gumby

Gumby reminds me of a fight I did about 4 years ago - in P3D well before the birth of MSFS

It was a - "Keep Australia on the Left" sort of flight - passing over the 4 cardinal extremities of our "Island" (12000miles)

flying the Nomad - PA 34 (wish we had one in MS)

Maybe I will do it again - post MS2024 - in the FSR 500 - a great aircraft - even though it has Glass instruments

however - maybe the TBM 850 - or maybe - the twin 414 - steam gauges - for safety

    Decisions - decisions -

This seems like a very nice tradition.  I'm surprised, not only that my family did not observe it, but that I've not heard of it before this.  For most of my childhood I lived with my grandparents, both of whom were born in England (Southampton and West Hartlepool).  We also celebrated the New Year 1991 in Beccles with friends, but no mention of this custom, either.  Then again, we celebrated the turning of the year in the bell tower of the 14th century church where our friend was a bell ringer ringing in the New Year.  Is this perhaps a more regional custom?  But this is a wonderful story.

    Happy Birthday to your wife!

(My mother's birthday was also New Year's, my grandmother's was Boxing Day, and my wife's is Christmas Day).

    Happy New Year to all!

    Ken

Hi Ken - I suppose it was much more a Northern tradition - stemming from Scotland - Hogmanay celebrations - but as John Says

    - very much a Lancashire /Yorkshire tradition - with coal mining a major part of lives - so coming from the deep South - you wouldn't

see much coal for your fires except in winter

Big coincidence on the birthday's - my wife complains because it reduces the chance of 2 pressies:D

BTW - Beccles /Norfolk Broads is one of my favourite parts of the world - I learned to sail there and had a boat on my last trip to the UK

as I do every time and my first was back in 1945 - PIc is 1968

The Japanese have learned how to eat puffer fish which are highly poisonous. Maybe Australians could find a way to make cane toads into a daring delicacy to sell to tourists in expensive restaurants?

Well -that's one way to keep the pesky tourists that invade our facilities here on the Gold Coast - if they could'nt get rid of the poison

Personally though - sod the tourists - I enjoy a feed of frog's legs - and snails - now and again - monsewer Rodger ;)

Certainly ugly and in plague proportions as they make their way

You will be safe in Tassie mate - the Bass strait will see to that  -or by the time they get to Victoria - they will have learned to cross water

    - and a multitude of sharks - and other creatures that like to take bites etc out of us humans.

Sometime in the 20s (?) - some bright spark decided to import in North Queensland - a few creatures called a Cane Toad - into our sugar cane fields

to assist in getting rid of a pest damaging the crops.

Not only do we risk poison from my earlier critters - these ugly toads carry a poison in their sacs - enough to kill a dog - which loves to chase them around

    the back yard

This little video demonstrates the stupidity of that decision - to the extent that Queensland is now unindated with the little sod.

The mass that is shown in the video - is just down the road from where I live - and very - very close to our mate - Graeme aka Boetie.

As also can be seen - they can grow to an enormous size - and theoretically - we are not supposed to kill with - say - with 5 iron - but catch

them and place them in one's freezer to give them a "Humane "death so say the Wokers

Needless to say - the cane field pest they were imported to kill - still exist - and the toad just increases exponentially.

  12. Most of you blokes from GB know of the tradition for the male of the family to go outside before midnight on NY eve - close the door -

and then after the stroke of midnight - come back in carrying a piece of bread and a lump of coal - and "LET the New Year" into the household.

Last night was the 65th time I have carried out that very tradition in our household - and then wished my wife --

a Happy 87th birthday - a Happy  New year - and a Happy 71st anniversary of our first meeting at a dance on New Year's Day 1953

You see guys - the tradition brings with it - a whole pile of luck - long health - hopefully for another year.

Happy New Year to all my fellow  Lufters - simulated or otherwise👍

  13. Over on Community Screenshots - are 2 recent additions including Orbx Cityscape

These just show the quality of Orbx scenery - when they try! - Brisbane is another;)

I have a New Year wish for Orbx - please -please do something with the

Gold Coast in MSFS including the airport - of course !

The one they did for P3D was almost identical - timewise - to the present garbage on MSFS:o
