I did try it for a while and like Carlos it wasn't for me, however of anyone is not sure you can try a free Steam version of the basic sim to just see if it floats your boat....or not...

There is no need to go to Steam - one can get the whole latest version - free from DCS direct - but be aware - it is a large download👍

    Hi Carlos,

Yes, DCS is "Digital Combat Simulator".  I think a more apt title would be "Digital Combat AIRCRAFT Simulator".

The simulator is very popular because of the hi fidelity, study level sim focus on military aircraft.  I love it and have flown in it for years.  It is not the "combat" portion I like so much, but more the in depth systems that are modelled for each aircraft.  Every aircraft or helicopter module in DCS is modelled like a PMDG or FSLabs, or Fenix aircraft is in P3D or MSFS.  Every switch works as it would in the real aircraft, and you have to follow procedures to start the aircraft correctly, to fly it correctly, and to use weapons.  The enjoyment for me comes from experiencing and learning about the various systems in each aircraft, including the weapons systems, and it is also very good in VR, which I use.  Of course I do also fly missions and campaigns, but that is mostly to learn more and to put the things you learn about the systems and weapons into practice.  It is totally military based though, to answer your question.

I endorse everything that Scott has said - especially as to the "Study" side of the aircraft in this sim. We have warbirds in MSF and some

of them are very good - but sometimes - one might just get a little fed up with just "swanning" around in the sky - with the exception

of trying to take off - or land - especially - these tail wagger - beasts of the air.

The principal objects of the sim are aerial combat situations - old and modern aircraft - designed to be thrown around in such situations- which in this sim are way ahead of anything seen in past deratives of combat flying sims. The AI aircraft one faces are almost perfect - and staying alive - requires much more skill especially with the WW11 scenarios than the more "Top Gun" shoot and forget battles. The old adage of no straight and level for more than 30 seconds is imperative. The opposition is that accurate!

As a child of WW11 - I was brought up on Spitfires - Mustangs etc. - and the models in DCS - are A2A on steroids as are the opposition -

and in DCS -  we have my preferred fighter bomber - the DH twin Rolls-Royce Merlin engine - Mosquito

Sooh! - the sim is free - with a couple of aircraft - but like any other you need to buy the aircraft and maps - but if you keep to either the

old or the new - it's not really any more cost than MSFS - and also has tanks and trains to shoot up :D

    Thanks John,
to celebrate, I have moved your topic into it. :)

Thanks for that Nick -however - I logically placed it in general - so that more people would see it and appreciate the addition;)

  4. Some while ago I commented on what was seemingly an increase in the relationship with DCS and this week's

announcement of the Norway scenery was welcomed.

I just noticed another welcome addition in this relationship with the Introduction of a specific addition into the forum of a section

dedicated to DCS - in the community help forum- just as other sims have had for some time.

Personally - although I haven't used the sim all that much - for the last week I have been knee deep in setting up my newX56 stick

and throttle with all the hair pulling frustrations that this sim can find - and a new addition to OUR forum is welcome to newbies like me

    Nice one Orbx!👍

Wow!  Lucky guy Adam.  I sat in a Connie on the tarmac once at the Avalon Airshow.  What a classic it is.

I didn't have my first flight until 2009, funnily the same year I got FSX which was my first flight sim.  My first flight was a short hop from Melbourne to Adelaide in a Qantas 737, a trip I do once or twice a year now, although I do occasionally drive.  When I got to Aldinga, South Australia in 2009 I also had a joy flight in the Tigermoth, which was really cool.

Anyone with the Carenado Waco YMF5 might also recognise this aircraft, also based at Aldinga

would have made good photos for the  - Orbx airports visited in real life - a rolling story

  6. @paulk - Thanks for you trying to help - however I found that this problem is basic in T/Master sicks - Airbus and T16000

which I also had. Multiple YT videos had many examples of how to correct but way too complicated in my 89 Y/O mind

    or even  patience

Sooh I took the easy path - and bought a new Logitech T56👏

Anybody want 2 free broken T/Masters sticks = postage only :D

John - just to confirm its the Airbus Thrust Master TCA Side Stick I have, so think its the same as yours.

See link below, for the fix I carried out - no issues ever since:

    Good Luck.

Thanks Paul - I'll give it a whirl🤞 -but my  engineering degree is design - not practical:D

  8. Over the last 2 months - my rudders have developed the shudders - and I have tried all I know to stop it

Maybe I should change that to twitters in that I get a constant twitch - mainly to the left and in flight the a/c is all over the place

I use the tmstr 16000 set - and also tried the airbus 360 stick - using the twist rudder - and with the pedal's setup as Tmstr rules using the

TMC throttle as the mother - and also without - using direct USB for the pedals. Drivers are up to date

I thought that this was an MSFS problem - but it also occurs in DCS

It also flickers in the Control panel set up - and although I have tried a deadzone of 15% - it still flicks outside that:banghead:

I get by in GA aircraft by using the auto pilot - but I like to fly warbirds most of the time.

Any suggestions ?? -  maybe a reasonably priced alternative ??

  9. We have thought for a while that Orbx have been playing around in DCS - this proves it  - and could be very logical with Orbx's experience

    in scenery production.

However - Orbx marketing department have not won any marks from this announcement - judging by the remarks on the subject

below the video -or lack of substance

When will they learn that we don't like teasers - esp 16 second ones

Phew! - what a choice - bin thur-  dunn that ! - so many memories and difficult choice - 18 years from apprentice to manager

at my Alma Mata employer for 18 years - 2 years national service with a most diverse bunch of blokes in Cyprus - however

as an apprentice - I went 1 day a week to my local tech. who were forming a new Rugby Union Team and my tenure with that

team lasted until I cracked my ankle at 34 - and took up sailing racing dinghies. We took that club from a small college team

to a full blown club in the North of England - with our own 3 pitch grounds and a modern clubhouse and training facilities.

I think I am the last surviving original member - and feel sad when I look at the old photos - and know all my mates are dead.:(

I had to look up the meaning of "chastised".😀

And the forum's spell check doesn't seem to know the word either. 😄

That confirms the topic's title is right.

PS: Edit because of bad grammar and spelling.

"Maybe you should have looked a little further" - consider your self - "Chastised"

    chastised

In English, many past and present participles of verbs can be used as adjectives. Some of these examples may show the adjective use.

In both cases, modernist music is chastised for the bias of its critical representations.
Her "vanity" in wanting independence is chastised through a marriage based on her dependency.
The father was chastised by the court for taking his daughter as a 'commodity to be owned' rather than as a person and as an individual.
Other demographic considerations aside, we felt ourselves minorities,

I deliberately misspelt the word - and wha"da know - spell check corrected it;)
