  1. What a great thread this turned out to be thanks to @Stillwater and @carlosqr ! A great flight sim story, some screenshots of the flight along with a pic of the flight route on a map, followed up by several real world photos of some of the POI's...great job you two! It reads just like a little adventure brochure! Nice! :)  The only thing missing would have been an experienced adventurer's compass and trusty jungle knife laid across the map of the flight route ;) :D

@Sniper31   @Nick Cooper thanks both for replying, I have had a little more time now to look around at things and I now think waiting is probably the best option, a new GPU would probably mean a new CPU which are now different socket types, that means a new Motherboard. All sims are running fine and any other stuff that I use runs extremely well so sit tight is the answer, but I do appreciate your input.....

No worries @wain71, at this point in time I don't feel like there is a wrong decision that you can make with this. It's your decision and having input and information can help with that which I hope that Nick and my input maybe helped you with that. But, at the end of the day, the way supply and demand is, resources and etc right now, there is just no way to know for sure which way is best. So, like I say, I don't think there is a wrong decision here. :)

  3. Hi Wain, I have a couple differing thoughts on this:

    1) Agree with you that the 3060Ti is probably not the best answer for you, BUT a 3070 could be....my only hesitation is the 8 gb of vram. Still, it's not a show stopper.

    2) I don't think your current system will benefit much from a 3080, especially at that price, but you could get the 3080 anyway with the thought of when you upgrade the rest of your PC components months (or a year) down the road, you have already gotten the expensive GPU purchase out of the way.

    3) The way hardware trends are right now and all the resource shortages, I don't know how much prices will really be going down in the near future, especially with the Holiday season right around the corner, where demand gets higher.

    4) You could just leave your system the way it is right now if it's running that well, but I DO think a 3070 might be the best option for you given price, availability etc.

    Of course, my opinion only.

    Cheers!

Could those of you, who are moaning

This is a very passive aggressive remark Wolfgang. For my part, I responded to this thread with how I feel about the direction of Orbx as of late. I don't feel that my comments were 'moaning' as you put it. Maybe you were not talking to me, I don't know, but comments like that are what put people in defensive postures. Why not simply ask for some of us to elaborate on why we feel the way we do instead of resorting to such types of instigating comments? I've known you virtually on here for years, and I respect your comments and opinions and I do not wish to get into a sparring match with you in this thread. Just something to think about.

Anyhow, let me elaborate some on why I feel the way I do, for those that want to know. In some of the previous airport releases prior to MSFS, the developers put little special touches on many of them....the race cars at S43 Harvey, the moving trains at LOWI and EGHI, BBQ parties at places like Bowerman, and some of the other PNW airports (I cannot remember them all specifically). Also, the Orca whales off the ends of the runway at KORS....those kind of little touches are what make me feel like those are special Orbx magic touches. I know MSFS has it's own people flowish type of thing going on with the ground service people, but it is the exact same people at every airport. Orbx' People Flow had a little more variety (remember the woman in red for example?). Anyhow, that is generally why I feel the way I do. That, and as I stated earlier in my previous post, that lack of digital User Guides....that is a BIG one for me. Lot's of cool details were in those User Guides, and helped me to soak in more of the feel of that virtual location. Sure, I can use Wikipedia, and I do, but having some historical data combined with some flying info, maps and diagrams as well as POI's included with the scenery (and their locations) was something I really appreciated. We don't get those anymore.

Hopefully that helps shed some light on why I feel the way I do regarding this main topic of this thread.

Cheers, and have a nice day :)

  5. Very interesting question Caleb. I don't have an experienced answer for this, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would think maybe put the scenery on the HDD and the aircraft on the SSD. My thought process is simply that the aircraft my get accessed more than the scenery. But again, this is a guess. @renault or @Nick Coopermight have better 'guesses' or actual technical suggestions than I have though. :)

  6. I don't have dogs. Always have had a cat. Too hard to take care of dogs when deployed all the time, but cats are pretty independent.

That said, there was this one training mission I was on where after taking out some 'targets' we were chased by tracking dogs. That sucked big time...no matter what, couldn't shake those puppies off our trail. It was middle of winter at Fort Drum (upstate NY) and we tracked through streams, and double backed trying to shake them. When they caught us, I was leaning up against a snow covered tree trying to catch my breath and figure out a new plan. So much for that :)

Great post Landon!!!!!!!!   I go to the South Colorado a couple of times every year to hike and jeep.  Have you done the Alpine loop?

Hi John, yes we did the Alpine Loop (well at least several trails of it...there are so many connectors and such). We ran Mineral Creek trail to the intersection of Engineer Pass and Cinnamon, took Engineer Pass Trail to Lake City, then came back over the mountains on Cinnamon Pass Trail and back to Mineral Creek as we were staying at Ouray Riverside Resort, in one of the little cabins. I still want to go back and hit some other trails that we did not have time for, especially Poughkeepsie Gulch. We also got in Imogene Pass Trail (from Telluride to Ouray) and also ended up running Ophir Pass trail both directions. With the addition of Black Bear Pass Trail it was an overall amazing trip. There are SO many cool off-road trails spread all across Colorado that it has been hard for me to get to the San Juan area, but I made it a priority this year. I also managed a good 5 day Jeep trip to Moab back in July, and will be headed to Leadville CO. in two weeks for some fun on Holy Cross Trail, the hardest trail in Colorado and one of the most challenging in the country. It is a fun trail!

Maybe we can manage a link up in the San Juan area next time we go and hit some trails together ;)

  8. I don't have TE NL installed in my P3Dv5.2 install right now, but I can tell you that I do not have stutters anywhere else in Orbx scenery within P3D 5.2. I run my sliders pretty far to the right too. One thing I do that helps more than anything is to limit my FPS to 30 outside the sim. I am running an AMD MSI RX 6900 XT video card, so I use AMD's Radeon Software (Riva Tuner) to limit the FPS to 30, but with an RTX 3080 you can do that via the Nvidia Graphics settings from your PC desktop. It seems like that is a common 'try this' answer, but it does really make a difference regarding stutters, especially when you hardware looks more than capable. Try that and see if it makes a difference. If you already have tried that, then we need to look at something else.

    Cheers!

  9. I spent five days last week in and around Telluride and Ouray Colorado, about 5 hours from where I live. A few friends of mine, my girlfriend and I spent the time Jeepin' on the many off-road trails in the area (most are old mine roads) and exploring the little mountain towns. Here are a few pics from the trip, to include one or two of KTEX Telluride Airport as seen from the famous Black Bear Pass trail.

  10. No experience in any of those vehicles except that my Mother, my sister and a few of my friends all had VW Bugs of some sort or another so I have lots of passenger time in them. Never owned one or drove one though. I DO remember as a kid, riding all the way in the little cubby in the back, behind the back seat. Basically, that cubby was a bucket, and not very comfortable, and also loud as it was right next to the engine.
