Any plans for Southern California?

Yes Holger sent me the KML for SCA which I approved and work will commence soon.

The area includes Las Vegas so there's a Cityscape opportunity for us there :)

O please!!!! FTX Las Vegas Cityscape would be tremendous!!! US Cities X Vegas is abit of a cheat since autogen is blurred and looks like Google Earth 3D in some cases plus there's 0% night lighting!?!!?!

EDIT: Yes correct, US Cities X Vegas does have night lighting but there's still the really poor textures across the board as a whole.

I'm sure the Orbx SoCal will be seamless with the Grand Canyon-scenery from OZx? Or will Orbx make it's own?

Deeply in love with the other Orbx-regions (and Norway) so I'm happy to wait a little. How about two or three weeks? :-P

That is great news!  Do you think that a San Diego or Los Angeles (maybe a little too ambitious) Cityscape could be in the cards in the future?

I am really looking forward to this region.

I retired from the Air Force in 2003 and have been living in Las Vegas since.  It's my home base in FSX and there have been some very good "city scape" type sceneries over the years for it.  I still use a freeware one from a Japanese gentleman from many years ago.  The problem is over the past decade there has been so much "change" in tearing down and rebuilding the main attractions, mainly along the "Strip".  All "current" FSX sceneries for the Las Vegas area are outdated.  But the 2008 economy crash put a fairly good halt to construction boom, and a more current ORBX "City Scape" of Las Vegas would definitely separate me from some of my income.   ::)   So would SCA and anything that would fill in the blanks south from CRM, NCA, and down through the Arizona area to the southern US border.  I love the other areas that ORBX produces, but there is just something "serene" about flying over a well produced mountainous/desert area in FSX.

I'm drooling now about the possibility of FTX extending south to the border from NCA and CRM.  I might never look East again if that happened (unless of course there was a Utah/Colorado too.

PS - I don't remember the name of the developer, but the KHND Henderson freeware airport in the FTX Global airport packs download is my "general aviation" home base now.  With the FSDT KLAS, all I need is a KVGT North Las Vegas and I'd be in heaven.  Hmmm...KVGT or even a new fully integrated KLAS as a payware FTX airport.  Hmmmm.....   :banghead:

I would love to finally retire my US Cities Las Vegas and use the FSDT version for McCarran. I hear Neil is already at work doing the other airports for the region (the ones he has not already done), so you will likely get your wish regarding KVGT North Las Vegas, if LV is in the coverage area.

Also interested in seeing the KML for this -- will any parts of AZ make it in?

Exciting times indeed.

Thank goodness (Holger and JV and team) that I still have most of Norcal and all of Norway to keep my mind off it. : )

SoCal is such a great area to sight see,  can't wait!   I drive a truck and get to the West Coast fairly often,  but most of the time it is to the SoCal,  not the northern portion of the coast.

Regardless,  this will be great.

Fantastic JV, can wait for this addition to the west coast, imagine Alaska all the way down to So Cal!, (nice if you could add Baja, not much there but a fun place to fly to).

Really looking forward to this one!

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

SoCal would be great. I'll buy the whole west coast when i can fly Seattle - san diego all at the same consistent detail level.

Tried ftx for the area but it was a bit generic, although i was surprised to see that it was closer to satelite images than default which is too sandy, the real thing is somewhere in the middle of those probably.

Maybe sales of palm springs could indicate if socal would be popular with the community?

Just wondering, is the airport area of Las Vegas sloped in this region? I am a bit worried if it is because the real world KLAS is sloped but FSX/FSX-SE/P3Dv2.4 airports have to be flat, especially addon airports like FSDT KLAS where the airport has to be flattened. I am fine if the airport is in the correct altitude but I am concerned about the outsides. Will you smooth out the areas for the airports so that it won't look out of place on the outsides?
