Cleat - inside and out.

I can always remember getting my first Observers book of Aircraft in 1962 and the one aircraft that really stuck out was the Tupolev Tu114. So different from anything in the West. A huge 4 engine  turboprop with swept wings and a capacity of 170-220 passengers.

32 were built with a remarkable safety record for aircraft of that era with only one fatal accident due to the snow not being properly cleared from a runway. They flew from 1961 to 1991.

This Cleat is flying  heading off from Anchorage to Moscow.

Cleat is its NATO reporting name.

Interesting set up in the middle class seating with the facing seats and table.

Economy cabin. The luggage racks remind me of the old C1 class BR railway carriage.

1st class for party members maybe.

Modern version with glass cockpit.

Really enjoyed seeing something very different, reminds me to go fly my Sibwings AN-2 again :)

Have not seen much of the AN-2 lately or the Twotter.

Great shots of the old Russian classic Martyn!!

Yes, great shots Martyn - and this Tupolev is quite bizarre.

A very unconventional airliner. Would liked to have shown off more of the take off and retracting u/c but ran out of runway.

Great shots Martyn!

Hi Martyn.Great set.What a mighty aircraft...bet it was loud !!!

stu

I never saw one but apparently very loud. I will put up some more loud ones I can vouch for later this week.

Great beast, and you can be sure they had to keep the Vodka in fuel / freight calculations for all service classes.

I thought it ran on vodka!

Many thanks for the kind comments folks. Hope you enjoyed this unusual airliner.

Nice shots, i like the plane a lot ::)

Nice shots: now we can imagine how Nikita Chroesjtsjov was transported.

I think I know which area he would have sat in. Hope you get your new computer soon.

I love those inside cabin views , great post Martyn !Cheers

We have come a long way when you look at todays interiors.

nice set of shots !

if you like some russian birds, you should try the TU-154 (a bit younger than the TU-114 ;) )
