VH-KDK
Some caps of a Sud Est SE161 Languedoc in South Wales. Based on the Bloch MB.160 bomber, the first Languedoc flew in 1939. Limited production was attempted during the war but was abandoned due to lack of skilled workers. Eventually 100 were completed They saw service with Air France and the French military but due to unreliable engines, lack of de icing equipment, no cabin heating and excessive noise they were not successful and very unpopular with airline passengers. Some were re-engined with P&W R-1830s, also limited heating and de icing were added, but they were gone from international routes by 1952. More modern aircraft such as the DC-4 and Viscount saw the Languedoc retired from domestic airline service by 1954. They soldiered on with the military in various roles, and as flying test beds until 1964. 1. On the ground at Swansea Airport. 2. Turning over the village of Ilston. 3. Over Swansea with the Bury Estuary in the background. 4. Approaching Port Talbot. 5. North Cornelly with the M4 motorway. 6. 7.
