How far in the US does Orbx want to go?

Sorry for the question that may have been asked before, but since I'm not as active in the forum like I should be I wanted to ask the question that has been on my mind for a while. So my question is how far does Orbx want to go in the USA? Coast to coast? Current areas only? Or sporadically around the country?

I really ask this question because there is one region that could really use Orbx' attention that for all the years of flight sim has never really gotten any. Sure a few freeware developers did some stuff. Yes Imaginesim built KDTW. Fly Tampa did KBUF But all in all the Great Lakes Region has gone untouched! Could you guys imagine the Orbx touch on the Great Lakes! All those lighthouses, Mackinac Island, Niagara Falls, etc!

I guess one day I'd just really love to see this team put together something magnificent in this region. Any comments are welcome. What do ya'll think?

Thanks,

Jason

I share your dream, but with the "speed" of development of the OrbX regions, I wouldn't hold my breath.

But sure we can hope and pray and maybe, one day, John and his crew will surprise us (as they always seem to do  )

Yes interesting question.

I love this scenery, fly almost exclusively in these regions. Am exploring Australia bit by bit.

But would love to fly other places with this type of enhanced scenery. I fear that FSX will be replaced soon, or sooner than Orbx will never cover the entire NA continent. Their resources are limited to a few specialists. We need three Holger Sandmann's. I get that they have a successful business model so that is of course their consideration. But as customers it would be really exciting to know that there were people in training to expand the rate of scenery development.

My GEX, UTX just doesn't match the wonderful textures of Western NA and AU, that plus the improvements to airports.

We aim to cover all of the USA and Canada, as fast as we can, without compromising on our quality. We would love to double or triple our staff but as we've said for a while now, our revenues don't support that sort of rapid growth. We envisage adding a full-time developer every six months at our current rate of growth, with the most recent being Russ White, but his focus is objects and airports, not regions.

Anyone who thinks we'll stop FSX development when Flight is released is delusional. We've stated that FSX and Flight will co-exist as parallel platforms for many years, so we will have plenty of time to cover the whole of the USA and Canada.

East coast sequence is likely to be New England first, then heading down towards Florida, then westward towards the Great Lakes and the South at the same time.

Great stuff JV, the company always progressing and I'm looking forward to all those new USA/CANADA regions. I'm in for the long haul, like so many others.

Regards,

Jim.

Mackinac Island and the UP. You might want to check with there Government and not L. MI either as they are nothing to the UP. Try there official consular in Green Bay WI if payware is involved. We as citizens in NE WI and UP are very protective and like to be represented freeware. Our home is to enjoyed by all and not by groups who can afford. Those are part of our core values and what makes us NE WI and UP.

That is awesome news and lots to look forward to. Thank you for the insight JV! Come to think of it I heard rumor Bill Womack was out visiting the New England area or was going too..............

I'm from and grew up in St. Ignace, MI and lived in Manistique and through out all my years of simming I've never heard anything like that. The Orbx touch is just what the Great Lakes Region needs. JV answered my question, again thank you sir! I've seen some, meaning very few descent freeware for Michigan. The last airport that was freeware worth downloading was KPLN and that was for FS2004. You sir have your opinion and this one is mine.

Now since I'm reading words only and can't actually hear you, I don't know if this is a joke or if you're being somewhat serious. However, either way I must disagree with your statement/opinion. The FS world is free for anyone to develop and make addons'. Freeware or payware, Orbx is just really good at both. I'm confident with all the freeware they give out I'm sure the Great Lakes region would get some too.

Have a good one :P

I have no idea what you're talking about, but if you're suggesting that you're against your home area being made as an Orbx payware region, you would be in a tiny minority. With an attitude like that perhaps you may be waiting a long time indeed, hehe!

Indeed I was having a tough day when i posted that. After i kicked backed and reviewed and relaxed I do owe you and Orbx my apologies and really think FTX can make the Great Lakes shine. I just had to relax to some AU Red and Green.

This is just such great news JV. Having visited the US many times and with my brother having lived in both Boston and Florida, I have developed a love for the country and it's diverse scenery. Although I have bought into AUS and it's payware airports, I nevertheless spend most of my time in all the US areas you have currently released, each one having it's own unique character. I am now waiting patiently for the arrival of CRM so I can go and visit the east Rosebud lake area! Thanks again for bringing to us all such a great product and for maintaining your lead in scenery design. :)

Great news John!

Like many, I'm in it for the long haul. I've no interest in Flight. I switched from FS9 to FSX years ago when I saw the power and promise and could get a rig that would do it justice. That's it. I have too much invested in FSX. No plans to change for years. Keep them coming as your plans and staff allow..

New regions are always great and something to look forward to. Personally I don't need the entire continent, though. It would take too long to explore in my Cub, C152 and Drifter ultralight :D
