kev4242 Posted February 22, 2020 Share Posted February 22, 2020 Today's leg has us flying east from Brown Field Municipal in San Diego to the small town of Brawley just north of El Centro. We depart just after dawn on a hazy morning. The haze is forecast to clear as we fly further east. Here we approach Lower Otay Lake to the north of Brownflied. Into and over the baron and desolate mountains. Locating and beginning to track Highway 8. Flying past the Ocotillio wind farm. Nestled amongst the turbines is the Emory private airstrip 0CA6. I imagine this would be a somewhat challenging circuit with so many obstacles and likely turbulence from the turbines around. In a bid to prevent our breakfast re-appearing, we pass on this challenge and continue east. Turning north over Imperial County airport. Passing the El Centro Air Force base in the distance. This is where the Blue Angels do their winter training. Downwind for Bawley right traffic. Finals and another leg nearly complete at Bawley. It will likely be another week before we continue our trip. Our next leg will see us fly north and explore the Amboy crater. Thanks for reading.
