VH-KDK
Ailsa Craig sits 10 miles off the west Scottish coast of South Ayrshire 1. This volcanic plug has an area of 240 acres and its highest point is 1109ft. 2. Blue Hone granite is mined here exclusively for Kays of Scotland who as we all know make Curling stones. This granite is of low porosity meaning the stones don't erode as fast in the icy conditions. 3. Huge flocks of Gannets nest here but rats caused a big problem after being introduced and the Puffin population became extinct. Rats were finally eradicated in 1991 after many years which has enabled Puffins to make a remarkable come back!

Thanks Jack, not the biggest place to hike and you would have to be careful about treading on the Gannet's nests.

olderndirt
"The granite gannets" - name for a curling team. How come you know so much about Scotland? When I was a boy, England was hardly discussed .
