  1. Orbx Content:True Earth Washington HD Approaching Friday Harbour on San Juan Island.
  2. Orbx Content: True Earth EU Spain South Sitting on the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, Sanlucar de Marrameda is a popular summer tourist destination. Opposite is the Donana National Park. There has been a settlement here since ancient times and in the 15th and 16th centuries many expeditions left the port. In 1522 the Nao Victoria became the first ship to circumnavigate the world, the only survivor of the 5 ships than left on Magellan's expedition 3 years earlier.
  3. On the banks of the Tay is Dundee. Under the nose of the Zenith is Tannadice Park, home of Dundee United, The Tangerines. 120 yards away is Dens Park, where Dundee, The Dark Blues play. Not surprisingly they are the two closest football stadiums in the UK.
  4. Orbx Content: True Earth Great Britiain North.
  5. Orbx Content: True Earth Great Britian Central Not long after taking off from Leeds/Bradford and flying past the Fewston Reservoir. At the left end of the reservoir is a locality called Blubberhouses. It is not pertaining to the current obesity epidemic but comes from the Anglo Saxon word Bluberhus, which referred to the house by the bubbling stream. Did the stream bubble as it tumbled over the rocks? Was it because one of farmer Arkwright's sheep had drowned in the stream and was decomposing or was it because of the locals habit of bathing in the stream the morning after consuming dodgy Vindaloos at the village's curry house!
  6. Orbx Content: True Earth Great Britiain South, EGTF Fairoaks. Flying along the A3 London to Portsmouth road in the Surrey countryside. The old Vickers test facility at Wisley can be seen by the port wing with Woking and West Byfleet by the starboard wing. Follow the stbd wing to the edge of the image and you can see McLaren Technology Centre and of course Orbx EGTF Fairoaks. Directly below the Cherokee is the village of Ripley which dates back to Norman times. There are many listed buildings here including the Old Pharmacy where penicillin was produced for the first time in 1944. H.G.Wells mentioned Ripley in War of the Worlds and The Wheels of Chance and the Sherlock Holmes short, The Naval Treaty was set here. A guitarist you may have heard of called Eric Clapton was born here in 1945.
  7. Orbx Content TE US Washington HD To the south of Olympia, the capital city of Washigton State, is KOLM Olympia Regional. I am enjoying exploring some of the West Coast TE regions in XP-11.
  8. Orbx Content: TE Great Britian South Just flown over Bristol with Filton Airport below the Caribou. On the right is the Severn Estuary which has a width of between 2 miles at the mouth of the River Severn and 9 miles where it turns into the Bristol Channel. With 50 ft tides it has some of the biggest tides in the world. The highest tides are marked with the Severn Bore, which occurs on 130 days of the year.
  9. The Foothill Freeway runs from Sylmar to Redlands in the LA metropolitan area. We will follow the freeway to San Bernadino. 1. Leaving the make believe world of the plastic celebs and entering the real world at Cahuenga Peak with the famous sign. No pics of leaving KBUR as I thought I had a problem with the Orbx scenery but of course I forgot this was not available in XP! Another DUH moment. 2. Santa Anita park at Arcadia. This is a thoroughbred racetrack and holds several major events such as the Santa Ana Derby and Handicap. The freeway can be seen above the race course with the San Gabriel Mountains. 3. The Irwindale Speedway and Event Centre has been in and out of bankruptcy since opening in 1999. Currently leased and planned to be open until the end of 2022 but it's future after that is doubtful especially as the land is owned by developers 4. The California Speedway at Fontana has ran NASCAR races since 1997 and did run Indycars until 2015. It has a capacity of 122,000 5. To the north of San Bernardino we say goodbye to the Foothills Freeway which can be seen crossing the San Bernardino Freeway centre left. Now changing direction to the NW to head up Cajon Pass.
  10. The title says it all, forgotten where this was!
  11. Approaching Mt Shasta. Another one of those saved unfinished flights that I must get around to completing.
  12. Two famous Liverpudlian landmarks just in front of the Twin Bonanza's nose. Anfield and Goodison Park can be clearly seen either side of Stanley Park.
  13. Vera, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Lancaster. 1. Departing Scampton, the first home of the famous 617 Squadron who flew The Dams Raid from here in 1943. 2. Nearby Lincoln Castle and Cathedral. The straight road is the A15 which is the old Roman Road, Ermine Street. 3. Passing back over the City of Lincoln. For over 200 years, Lincoln Cathedral was the world's tallest building.
  14. Following Ruston Way on the shores of Commencement Bay with Tacoma ahead.
  15. A trio of views of Edinburgh Airport which originated as Turnhouse Aerodrome in 1916. 1. 2. 3.
  16. The famous Royal Troon Golf Course can be seen here as I depart from Prestwick in Scotland.
  17. Bagdad Florida! Flying the wonderful freebie Khamsin T6G. Many thanks to them for this great gesture. The Choctaw Naval Outlying Field can also be seen here. Currently in use for primary and UAV flight training. The small town of Bagdad is directly under the wing and for golf fans Bubba Watson is from Bagdad.
  18. Looking back up the Mobile - Tensaw River Delta, the second largest delta in the US. The default Mobile is on the left of screen. Over Mobile Bay.
  19. As mentioned in a previous post, my first attempt to get the Lightning into the air wasn't too successful. 1. Waiting on the keys ready for take off. 2. A slight deviation to port and onto the grass and the taxiway! 3. Start again and that is more like it. I have always been fascinated by the Lightning's gear when it retracts!
  20. Got it up in the air at the second attempt and now to see if I can land it at Lyneham. 1. 2. 3. Over the piano keys and down! 4. 5. 6. 7.
  21. Flying east from Pearson and towards The Cascades. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
  22. Looking along The Solent from above The Needles.
