Hello,

after changeing the path like you explained to:

D:\Temp\Administrator\AppData\Local\Orbx

TEMP: D:\Temp\

TMP:  D:\Temp\

Restart the computer, FTX Central still needs the Drive "C"... :(

sry... I´m very frustrated and helpless..... :(

Gerd

Hi
I have P3D v4 on a SSD (500GB). I also have a 2TB HHD with lots of free space. Is it adviceable to make a symbolic link and move ORBX to the HHD, or will that be too slow?
I would assume it would be fine, I ran all my sims and many Orbx add-ons on a HDD for a long while. They're all running on a SSHD now which is not much different performance wise than a HDD.

Good news I was reading not long ago that Samsung are to release new 8tb and 16tb SSD drives the cost well that's another story unknown as yet.
Ray Fry.
I'm sure there going to be expensive. But for those who can afford it, it's probably a go, especially with many Orbx TrueEarth add-ons in our future!

I do not help you that much, I did just one 20 minute flight with default Baron at 3000ft, ORBX weather theme 7, but Netherlands perfromance seems same/similar as other scenery made by ORBX, maybe even better, but it is maybe placeboo from fresh upgraded CPU - I do not fly a lot over ORBX with new setup yet.

Anyway, with mostly all  graphics sliders set to right, 4096 textures, TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9, I was suffering from stuttering and frames between 20-40 - it jums up and fall down very often., I find that GPU bus interface was heavily loaded which means that there is lot of data transfers to GPU. I reduce max texture size to 1024 and it helps, load of buss interface goes down. Stutters are gone and FPS goes up to average 40 and my GPU (4k resolution, 2xMSAA) was bottleneck to my CPU, but CPU cores running workers loading scenery was mostly 100% utilized for whole flight.  Your CPU at 4.4 performs about 15% lower than my.

I do not monitor VRAM usage with initial settings nor with reduced settings for texture size, but big bus interface load is often connected with not sufficient VRAM, it make sense for me. There is no huge difference between TrueEarth HD and landclass regions in terms of amount of objects and special effects, so for CPU it is about same workload, but with those ortho images there is no repeat of landclass textures, every texture is unique, so it needs much more RAM and VRAM, same as many object textures are really with high detail, so another need for more VRAM. It is not just P3D problem, I have similar problem with VRAM in X-Plane too, but advantage of X-Plane is that it will show you current amount of loaded textures, so you can confirm that problem with easy way from sim UI. But keep in mind that this paragraph is my personal salty opinion.

Thank you for the feedback Jiri.

Work has been ongoing for weeks on this update, and shouldn't be too far away. This release will include core scenery content better optimized for the FSX engine. Aside from the ground textures, the majority of the changes will be "under the hood", though FSX/early-P3D users may notice a small decrease in some types of objects compared to P3Dv4. Whilst we could easily release this product as a simple conversion using the FSX SDK, we want to better make use of our technology by specifically tuning the scenery for the earlier generation sims. We strongly support our FSX customers and believe it is important to give you all the the best experience for this sim; we thank you all in advance for your patience.

FTX Central 3.3

A new version of FTX Central will be released that has enhanced download functionality (including the ability to set the "temp" location for users with low disk space on their C: drive). It is recommended that you upgrade to this version before installing Netherlands.

Hi,

plz, can you tell me where I can download FTX Central V3.3 or how to update my version 3.2.5.7 ?

Thx

Regards

Gerd

When you open FTX Central, it should automatically tell you there is an FTX Central update, down in the bottom left corner of the main FTX Central page. There should be a blue button.

Didn't see that and TrueEarth is downloading already... Is TrueEarth compatible with 3.2.5.7 which I have currently installed? Don't want to download 77 GB only to find out Central won't do anything with it...

Good question...I don't know...I had already updated FTX Central a few hours before I saw that Netherlands was released...same time I updated Orbxlibs.

I did update the libs... Think I will wait until the download has finished and hope for the best then. ;)

Hello,

most of the files do not compress and the installation size shouldn't be

much larger that the download size.

Yes you can use a second drive, here is how to do it.

Hi Nick, I made the symbolic link with Link Shell to move my ORBX files (150Gb) to another internal drive and it seems to work fine.

One question, I renamed the old ORBX folder in the C: drive to keep it for now until I need the space, I assumed I can do that without any problem, right?

Thank you guys for keeping those of us with earlier P3D versions in mind. Still using v3, just too much stuff I'd lose running v4.
I find that most add-ons that are compatible with FSX and P3D v1-3 usually work in v4, even if they are not officially compatible. I have the Flight Replicas super cub ultra and the Flysimware C120, both of which don't say they are compatible with v4, working fine in v4. Which add-ons are you referring to exactly?

Hello Guys

Just wondering how to get FTX Central to find a new temp folder on another drive. This may have been answered but I cant find it. Im struggling to install Netherlands to my P3D F:\drive which has plenty of space but FTX central tells me the C;\drive doesn't have enough space and i cant free it up any more.

Hello , I have the same problem with full C\drive and plenty of space on the F\drive with p3d root folder.

Would you be so kind to explain me step-by-step how to change settings in FTX central to avoid disk С usage at all.

THANK YOU!

Good morning Nick,

now... after 16 hours all was downloaded and installed... and???? Great Scenery !! Absolut amazing. But the way to that was very hard. There is still the question why I can´t get the FTX Central 3.3.0.2 . as you have ??  I´ve installed the FTX Central from the website... no succes. Still Version 3.2.5.7.. :( There is no "update" button.. :( However. I did as you wrote with changing the Path of the "temp" and TMP" folders and it worked.  But now I will chang it back to default values.

Thanks a lot for your help guys.

Greetings from good "old" Germany.

Fantastic scenery !

When I started flightsimming (FS98) I could only hope that one day I would be able to fly in a "real" very familiar environment.

This is a major step forward. Maybe in a future update the team will be able to correct the height of the rural stables and sheds as they are way too high.

A big compliment for the team and thank you all.

Hi, I too have just redownloaded FTX Central from the website but it is still v3.2.5.7.

No update option appearing in FTX.

Where to find that elusive v3.3.0.2 teased in the screenshot above??

Many thanks

I have the same problem with updating the FTX central to versie 3.3. After starting FTX central 3.2.5.7 there is no indication for updating. And in this version is no possibility for changing the temp download map. How can I uninstall the old version and install the new one ? I don't see the FTX central in the list of apps in W10.

Hello,

I don't know why you are not seeing version 3.3.0.2 but the means to change the temp download folder

is still there, as it has always been.

I have asked why some customers have the new version and some not.

I am awaiting the answer.

What is the download speed showing on FTX Central during download? And what speed is your internet connection when testing on speedtest.net? If the FTX Central speed is slower then your internet, (as it is for me) than I would recommend using the manual download option from the Orbx Direct website using a download manager. For me it is faster that way. Not everyone has this problem but at least I and few others do.

I think ti was between 4 and 9 Mbit. So it was faster than the download via Zip-File. I decided do change the path like Nick described.
