Thanks Ken - the FB is a Short Sunderland that was flown by Ansett Airways from Sydney Harbour to various destinations in New South Wales especially to a place on the Northern Rivers called Grafton - landing on the river there If look at the harbour of Sydney - in the flight planning section of MS you will see a "runway" laid out for the Flying Boats - and that is the pic in the video opening

1950's - how some of us remember things as they were before glass screens - and why we grab the old birds offered in the flight sims - whether P3D - XP - or MSFS who is catching up. How many can you identify in the video The airport - most shown - is Sydney - or as it was known back then - Mascot Who remembers the way we used to flight plan - in my case 1970

Always use the Snip and Sketch App in windows - you can also make some accurate mods if you are not too happy with the results

the news that many of the older pilot brigade have been waiting to hear please do watch the video and be astonished at the level A2A have gone to - to give us a aircraft that I enjoyed flying around in and in which I carried my family some 50years ago

Sheesh - I just worked out that I have spent $125 in the last 2 weeks on marketplace I see that Orbx have a sale at the moment - but not much for 2020 - BUT - if one goes to the marketplace - there is a raft of Orbx stuff at well reduced prices - for all those PC and X box users - but make sure that the software will fit the X Box

Too expensive for me - can't really see the use - I'd rather buy a new aircraft like the twin Commanche which I have done but I will soon need the plastic again in july for this baby that we have waited some time for -

I don't know about liking it - a script by a typical jealous Pommy - but it was like this and known as the Glitter Strip - and still is except that the airport you saw in the video and the aircraft are little bigger and faster Yes! The strip was like this in 1950 - and - yes 1 in 3 Australians dreamed of spending a week's holiday here and were prepared to travel 500 or 1000 miles from Sydney and Melbourne to do it Me - the wife and 5 kids did it first in 1972 from Melbourne - driving for 2 days to get here and the same back - for a stay of 2 weeks until we discovered Noosa - just 200 miles North on the Sunshine Coast - and eventually living there in 1986 - moving to here - GC - in 2005 As you all well know - I constantly winge over the fact that that Microsoft are still using Bing sats for the sim that is over 10 years old which means that none of you - have any idea of what The Gold Coast looks like today It better than the video - - the coast gets something like 20 million visitors per year and at least 1 million of those - are Pommes and Germans coming here instead of Europe and Majorca - although - I believe Cyprus has taken over from Spain - unfortunately. -
Auscene our favourite Aussie developer of local airports have a freebie download of their GSX at Hamilton which downloaded gives a file - and the install advice says this - Install Path: %APPDATA%\Virtuali\GSX\MSFS Credit: Impulse Simulations Where do I find to place the file??

For some reason - although I have been handling PC problems for 40 years - I just cannot get my head around these mobile phones and Tablets that run on Androids - or should that be Steroids I bought the wife a new tablet to replace an aging Samsung one - and which I thought I would use it in conjunction with the PC in the sim for say - PDF's - or Checklists etc. - but I am lost Can someone please help an old dodderer as to how to get such things on a tablet using Android? I do use a second monitor for little map - or checklists etc - but those of course are via Windows

You will certainly need the checklists and manual Bristol Type 188 Flaming Pencil for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS

i thought that the textures on roads and car parks were pure 2d and spoils the whole effort - see the transition from Bridge to road on freeway entrance

Just watched British Avgeek with his stream of YMML to Hamilton - and a good tour of the new airport on pre release Amazed at the size of the place - soooh different to the day we first landed there as a family - 4 days after it opened Sept 1 1971 Well done Orbx - hope to see it on the MS market place soon now for YMMB

Just taking a look at the General Discussion offerings - I was shattered to see that my thread - i.e. this thread had scored 1.2k views thus denoting interest in the question. I also noted - in other forums - similar statements of interest in the subject from others - (I did not take part in those discussions BTW) I take that number - to mean it was worth my time - and the probability measure of the importance of my request to Orbx - which has only produced an interesting series of responses from Orbx - by the hard-working Nick Cooper - and no other Orbx employee I might just take the time to count the number of Orbx discord notices I have received - promoting new software for the PC - over the same period that the thread took place - which - incidently - along with statement by MS for the 2024 new sim - strengthened my decision - to now only purchase my software for the PC and X box - only from the Marketplace - until Orbx - et al - and Microsoft sort out this doubling purchase anomaly. I say ET al - because I apply the same problem to others beside Orbx - having to pay another $A109 for a B737 - or another $106 for a Just Flight addon- which is just one of 7 Just Flight purchases. It is interesting to see that when the NEW sim comes out - MS state that most of the current softwares will transfer to the new one - but they don't say HOW - maybe there will be a mechanism come forth - that allows the transfer of licenses. If that will be the case - why not now - for the inceasing number of blokes moving to X Box - because of the now availability to purchase one - instead of spending a fortune on a new computer to handle the current sim and what appears to be an upgraded new sim.
-
The only way they can do that - is by having foreknowledge of what the NEW sim will be. Just by looking at the trillion comments all over the place - many of the major developers have expressed surprise at the release of this announcement - from such biggies as PDMG - Just flight etc. but they all seem to thing - based on the comments from MS that most will be OK. so why should Orbx be any different? - but then again - Orbx was quick of the mark with mods to the original sim - and they do seem to have a closer relationship with MS than most I'll make a bet that the long delay in YBML - MMB -and YBCG - after 2.5 years of 2020 - has something to do with it

It's become pretty clear in the last 24 hours that most of what we have - 2020- will be ok for the New ? Sim - but one question I have does not seem to have been asked - or speculated on - is - HOW will these softwares be installed in 2024?? Will it be a closed shop setup - as is currently in X Box - eg. Microsoft has the installer ? 😱 Probably not - as Momo - developer of the brilliant C 414 - says the following on Flightsimware's Discord :-- -Momo — Yesterday at 1:47 PM You can count on our products getting an updated so our installer will install and work in the new sim. Most devs will do this too. Will there be a 'Community" like set up - or will it be by - say - Orbx/developer for example - or will a system be devised whereby the developer informs Microsoft of a list of 2020 Licensee's ? Will we still have the very useful Flightsim.to type of developer - and if so - will that go through MS as well? Should the latter happen - then it would solve the problem of having to pay twice for a 2020 PC software license to be used for X box (and then again - pigs might fly in the new sim - and here's me - joining in the speculator throngs)

with just the membership astronomical fees - and population of the Gold Coast including a raft of billionaires - it could be possible -
When MS introduced us to a new form of scenery for the simulator - and Orbx created what we needed to stimulate the default - we salivated at the quality of what we fly over in the sim Now with all the talk of a UPGRADED sim - maybe we should take a look at what might be available in the next sim - even P3D 6/7 - and what BLENDER brought to our aircrafts

DeJa'Vu !! - all the above reminds me of all the suppositions that came out in June 2020 - 3rd party blokes would go broke - what about our Orbx investments in P3D (who?) - can't trust Microsoft!! - speculation galore What bit I saw of this video -just seems to expand some of the latest Recue /Firefighting aspects of the current sim - based on the new Helicopter surge in use since SU 12- and whoooha !!!! - even a 747 fighting fires Do you really think that developers like Orbx - PDMG - Just Flight- etc. - didn't know about this before announcing the recent aircraft developments?? Slow down fellows! - stop surmising negative thoughts - and just enjoy the best simulator since sliced bread - and accept development to something better - and await a proper announcement - that is not created by the spin guys - for the annual X box bean feast
