  1. Not to worry, Adam. My wife is from Allegheny County. You won't be saying anything I haven't heard
  2. Gerold, eher eine anglisierte Slang-Version, aber was immer für dich funktioniert, ist für mich in Ordnung.
  3. Hi all. Thanks to all who chimed in to suggest we continue this feature. Special thanks to those who suggested ideas for future topics. I'm keeping a file. In tribute to those clever idea-guys, we offer this week's meaningless topic inspired by their suggestions.. THIS WEEK'S MEANINGLESS TOPIC: The following sentences are written in standard English. How would you rewrite them using using phrases and words unique to your part of the world? For example -- "He got it done" = (in USA Pacific Northwest) "He carried it off." 1. That young man lacks common sense. 2. That young woman is strikingly beautiful. 3. That fellow eats enthusiastically. 4. He was cheated in his purchase. 5. She certainly likes to talk excessively. 6. The gentleman commenting on the Orbx Forum is remarkably handsome. 7. The old gentleman writing the Meaningless Topics is not firing on all cylinders.
  4. Pete, we may have to hire you as a replacement when my brain dries up.
  5. Good day and good year ahead for you, Cyberpilot
  6. Okay, that works. Now, why do they call potatoes "mash," as in Bangers and Mash?
  7. Dad, knowing the English sense of humor, I wouldn't touch that one with a twelve-foot pole
  8. Special thanks to all who added an opinion! We will certainly continue our unimportant discussions of meaningless topics. Cheers, ta, and thanks heaps.
  9. Hi all. We are approaching #50 of This Week's Meaningless Topic. It originated as a way to encourage light-hearted exchange among Forum readers. Over time, about a dozen of us have participated on a steady basis, with another half-dozen chipping in now and then. My request is for feedback on whether or not we should continue the feature. It obviously has limited appeal, but the regulars are fun to read. What do you think?
  10. Hi all. The Tim Tam/Penguin Vegemite/Marmite threads elsewhere are so much fun that I hesitate to interrupt. But tradition is tradition, so, in the spirit of Tim Tam, here goes. THIS WEEK'S MEANINGLESS TOPIC: Whose tea makes for the best cuppa? 1. Lipton 2. Taylors 3. Tetley 4. Twinings 5. Yorkshire 6. Other
  11. Nick's reference is lots of fun. In its full form it is https://www.goodfood.com.au/eat-out/news/tim-tams-or-penguins-the-australia-versus-britain-sweet-treat-taste-test-20200622-h1owzt
  12. HI all. On the "Winter Time Comes Early" thread, a fervid discussion of Australian Tim Tam tea cookies/biscuits has been unfolding. My wife, who is a dedicated tea drinker, saw the discussion and marched off to Amazon to try them. Our package arrived today. Very chocolate, very Australian, very good. Our next experiment will be "The Tim Tam Explosion" in which a Tim Tam is used as a straw to suck tea. If there are further uses for Tim Tams, I don't want to hear about them.
  13. Okay, you Aussie salesmen, my wife saw the pictures of Tim Tams and. being an enthusiastic tea drinker, marched off to Amazon and ordered a pack. Cost as much as two kangaroos and a wallaby, but, by golly, we are going to try your Tim Tams. Thanks a lot!
  14. So much for shrimp on the BBQ today. Better switch to penguins.
  15. You have a great sense of humor and you are a good Forum friend. Try that on for size
