Kootenay Source.

I flew part of the Kootenay River a few weeks ago and I was taken by the fantastic scenery. Looking up some information on the river I have decided to take a trip down all 781 km of it. This will take some time and many, many hits of the "v" to record some of  the incredible ORBX scenery we are so lucky to have.

Well here goes on this long journey and as I have a penchant for belting the v key there will probably be quite a few parts.

Starting off from Radium Hot Spring's grass strip it is a 70km flight to the source of the Kootenay.

2.kNlZG.jpg

Turning over a large timber mill we head for Sinclair  Canyon.

Flying up Sinclair Canyon following the Kootenay Highway.

4.nQeO.jpg

Looking back at Mount Bruce.

5.alIRy.jpg

The highway disappears behind Redstreak Mountain.

6.IRLUP.jpg

Sinclair Mountain.

7.2ifGm.jpg

The highway continues into the Simpson Valley but we will not follow it.

There at last. The Kootenay rises at Castle Mountain. So now we shall follow it for the next 781km and umpteen screen caps. We will head back down the valley towards the Sinclair Canyon.

Amongst the mountains in view are Manganese, Mollison and Striped.

10.Bl2Tm.jpg

Tumblig, Hewitt and Foster Peaks.

11.5iTsO.jpg

Ceadered Peak.

12.ErOal.jpg

The Kootenay is starting to take some size now as we head for Rockwell, Tumbling Peaks, Mount Gray, Verendry and White Tail.

Looking back up the valley.

Marble Canyon, Mount Wardle at Kootenay Crossing. The Vermilion River flows from the canyon.

The Kootenay joins the Vermilion River. Left is Mount Selkirk and right is Mount Deyer. A strange feature here is that the Kootenay is joining the larger Vermilion yet from hereon the river becomes the Kootenay.

Many thanks for your kind comments and interest.

I did respond yesterday and I put up the second instalment but for some reason everything I put up yesterday, including comments to others posts, are not here today despite showing yesterday :DeadHorse:

I will endeavour to put up part 2 soon.
