simfix60
I recently purchased FTX Global base package for FSX Steam Edition. I have Windows X. The installation took several hours but all went normally. When it asked me where to put the backup fsx scenery files, I made a major mistake! I selected my desktop. I figured It would put the files in one neat little file icon and I would not forget about it by having it on my desktop. Instead, it put hundreds of individual file icons on my desktop. This totally froze my computer as it could not process all of that on the desktop. I could not delete the files or get into any of my programs! Couldn't even access my control panel. I was lucky that I was able to do a total system restore on my computer to get it working again. Where should I put these backup files if I choose to reinstall again? As a friendly suggestion, it might have been nice for Obbx to suggest a default file, just as they do on the program install, so these major problems do not occur. We are not all "IT Specialists". Many of my program backups do go to my desktop, almost automatically, so I wasn't expecting a total shut down of my computer. Also, as I have purchased the Base Package, will installing FTX Global Vector enhance the experience? I am interested as long as these programs do not affect my frame rates. Thanks! Nick Cooper
Hello and welcome to the forums. I would suggest that you choose a location to suit yourself and then create an empty folder. Give it a name that you will recognise, "Global Backup" perhaps and then point the installer to that folder at the back up stage. Vector and open LC are intended to enhance the experience. Some customers have reported a decrease in frame rates with each of the products but the vast majority do not experience this.

John Dow
The other thing to consider is not bothering to back up :-) Once you install Global and go flying I've never even considered going back to default textures... ever.
Triplane
+1. It's a waste of disc space to backup the default files. Trust me, you'll never go back to them. Has anyone ever reinstalled the backed-up default files? If so, I'd love to know why..... Doug
gaab
This thread reminds me that I have "somewhere" an old backup which, I am afraid, is using too much space on my SSD . Is there a way to find where the Global backup is (some very specific filename, number of files, total space...). I dont remember where I put it Looking for "Backup" in the ORBX directory I found 1 - ORBX\Scripts\Backup = 60 Mo 2 - ORBX\Scripts\FTX Global\Backup = 107 Mo 3 - ORBX\Scripts\FTXTreesHD\Backup = 15 Mo What, if any, backup directory can I safely delete ? Thanks to help me get more space for the incoming OpenLC NA (2d part). Gérard
Stewart Hobson
Hi, Gerard. If I remember correctly, you would have named that backup yourself, not Orbx. The size is very big--gigabytes big.
