I get the feeling that some people don't like the Xbox side of things, just from reading on other forums, it's as though we have no right to be using MSFS on a console, but do you know what- I get into my SIM so much quicker on that little blackbox on my desk, and it runs quieter to....

Only going on what I read here on the forums, I think that people don't realise that XBox is a completely closed system within MSFS. I suspect that Microsoft always intended XBox to be the main income stream for MSFS for them. In some ways the XBox can be seen as similar to the printer industry, the machines are sold at minimal margins with the expectation of income from proprietary consumables, or in this case software. So Microsoft has no interest in missing out on potential income from its XBox software, even if that might be perceived as unfair or double dipping. IMHO.

OK I noticed that when I put Terrain LOD at 400 the issue goes away. Can I ask, is the LOD update for Landmarks Melbourne going to cover both terrain mesh and objects?

I'm pretty sure mesh is not something that can be controlled, I think the way it appears is buried deep within the sim coding.

If LOD 400 solves the problem just use that setting.

  3. Not quite sure what you mean. If you mean some objects pop into view at that distance then it's pretty normal, because if all objects out to the horizon appeared together the sim would crawl or even crash.

There will be some work on the LODs for Melbourne undertaken, which might help, but there will always be limits on what can be displayed in the distance.

A great depiction of Melbourne airport but the colour of the grass and it's texture  surrounding the runways just doesn't seem right. The green is too deep and doesn't match that of the real airport, the texture seems more synthetic than bladed.

    Steve

Initially I had similar thoughts but it looks natural now after a few hours experiencing it and getting used to it.

  5. If you would like to see some of the most incredible VFR scenery (geology more than anything else) then the Namibia bush trip can take you away from your comfort zones and you can experience a wild and raw part of the world that few people know intimately.

    The bush trip is:  https://flightsim.to/file/18082/discover-namibia-bushtrip

It's long and many legs are a bit boring so if you just want the creme de la creme, select the third and second last legs (I assume you can do that in a bush trip?) and experience the amazing palette of colours and landforms that Namibia offers from above.  I thought Central Australia was amazing but it's got nothing on this part of the world.

  6. Update.  I was mulling over whether MSFS can't handle Control Panel items in library locations so I uninstalled my YMML and installed it into the Microsoft Flight Simulator directory (ie straight into the Community folder), fired it up and lotsa cars.  Then in OC I unticked all the options and rebooted the sim and all cars, and other items were gone.

Good.  Now for the acid test.  I shut down MSFS and in the COntrol panel I enabled everything againa nd started a flight and Presto!  all the cars wer back as well as everything else.

Maybe this is one of those circumstances where the installer only installs into the Community folder, not a library?

I'd be interested to know if this can be confirmed by others.

  7. There's a problem with the control panel functions it seems.  I just enabled the max cars option, and I saw the bgl change from .off to .bgl in the scenery folder, as it should.  I then re-started the sim, but no cars.  So there's some sort of glitch. It was noted in testing that some of the control panel functions weren't doing as expected so some changes were made, and some testers said the functions were working.  I know I had the max cars working in the past, so why it won't work now is a mystery.

I just re-installed the scenery but I forgot to run it once before I made the changes so it's still not showing the cars.  I'll have another go.

Edit:  I got the cars back by deleting the Scenery Indexes folder from the local cache:

    ...\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes

A restart of the sim rebuilds the scenery indexes and ensures all scenery settings are set properly.

Sorry guys exernally looks great but internally that is very disapointing.  Terminal 1 and south terminal are ok but the international terminal is garbage.  Having flown in and out of YMML many amny times was hoping to see some decent resemblance in the international and the arrival areas - no desks, no large international desk etc, nothing at all.  Lot of money for an incomplete job.  Sorry just stating as I expected much better.

It's a flight simulator.  The interiors are provided as a backdrop to operations from inside the aircraft.  That's my understanding of what the developer is trying to achieve.

Also there may be constraints on what was available as far as access and permissions, we don't know.

As for me, I'm going to continue to enjoy it from where I sit in MSFS, in the cockpit.

Whoops. I'm a complete muppet!! I mean runway 26 NOT 01R!!!!! Problem occurs If I start flight from this Helipad using a Guimbal Cabri G2!

I just set up a flight at ESSA at that helipad in the Guimbal Capri G2 and as with the other helicopters, the traffic and statics around the airport are all firmly attached to the ground.

Must be something causing your unique problem

Did you delete the scenery indexes folder and allow the sim to build a new one?

  10. I just tried to replicate your issue and if I select that start position the sim changes it to the H pad next to the 08/26 runway, and the symbol next to the 01L (not 01R) disappears.

As a result I can't test from the pad that you select because it shouldn't exist in this scenery.

If you haven't deleted your scenery indexes folder so the sim can build a new one then I recommend you do that next.

    compatible with FS24?

It may be possible to install YMML into FS24 if it ever appears but it's unlikely given that MSFS is a totally different engine and coding.

There's speculation that FS24 may in fact not appear and the next version of Farming Simulator will be FS25. See this video :

Sadly, downloads from Orbx are partucularly slow.

Just the same as the Orbx homepage is. The forums are okay though.

I can almost 100% guarantee it's your ISP, or somewhere further up the chain. As I said, when I changed to a full price and full service provider, the slow downloads ceased and everything is full speed, both OC and all the Orbx Direct site. The budget provider had full 50Mbps speeds on local servers but as soon as I tried an international server it slowed to a crawl.

Here's a site that allows you to check download speeds from a wide range of servers and countries. https://www.meter.net/

  13. Oh you are saying it doesn't download?  That's a different problem.  As many many threads here point out, slow downloads are almost exclusively a problem between the Orbx servers and your computer.  Mostly it'll be a problem in a server somewhere that involves a corrupted file or similar.

Most internet servers are reset every couple of days so maybe try again soon.  Another way to check if you can get access to another computer on a different internet provider is to log in and start a download, it'll soon be obvious if the speed is normal.

I used to use a budget internet provider but international downloads such as from Orbx used to regularly slow to as little as 100K/sec so I moved to a full price provider and downloads are never less than 5MB/sec.

    Great outback shot, Iain.

Which 530 is that? Is it trimmable (like the Milviz for p3d was)?

I really miss an easily controlable heli for exploring the great scenery in MSFS.

MSFS helis are trimmable after you assign a couple of buttons or keys to the specific helicopter trim control.

More likely to be a conflict with another scenery or add-on, usually freeware.  Unfortunately there's no error codes that pop up so it's just a matter of trial and error.

What you can do is to rename your community folder to something like XCommunity so the sim doesn't recognise it.  The create a new temporary Community folder and move the Himalayas file into it.   You can delete the SceneryIndexes from the ...AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache folder to ensure there are no leftover problems and then start MSFS.  My guess is that the Himalayas mesh will now load.

Another factor with large scenery files is HDDs can take up to 5 times longer to load than SSDs, something to consider.
