Thought I'd get carried away and pre order this after the wonderful promotion and videos as I wanted the Premium Deluxe version. I found out that as usual with anything from the US, Australia gets the thin end of the stick. In Europe apparently and elseware in the world it can be ordered in either Standard, Deluxe or Premium Deluxe versions, either as a download or a boxed set of disks. In Australia you have no choice but only the Standard version and only as a download and with Australia's appalling National Broadband Network that is not a very exciting prospect. Let's hope that boxed sets will become available here in due course. Bit disappointing. I'll wait and see what transpires.

I ordered and paid for the premium deluxe version no problem.  It was through the XBox page, I don't know if that had anything to do with it?

Wish someone with XVision could spend five minutes of their time to check which shader file is modified by this tweak, so we could apply it manually.

I would rather spend these $20 on another Orbx airport than on the software I don't need.

XVision improves the overall look of X Plane so remarkably that the improvement alone is worth the $20, the radioactive tree fix is a bonus.

So, is there a solution to the rogue power lines across several valleys? It is clearly some artefact in the power line data, as I can even see one power line mast holding the Northern end of such a long straight power line in the valley that starts running South from the sky jump tower (keep flying South, past the large highway viaduct and you will see the power line straight in front of you going along the valley). It is quite an annoying artefact and the solution must be pretty easy by finding these anomalies in the power line data.

The problem might be that the powerline that passes close to the airport and ends in a phantom tower just behind a village disappears as soon as you get to a certain point in the scenery, hence whatever might be causing it is remaining a mystery.  I know nothing about X Plane 11 architecture, this project was an early one in XP11 for the dev, and maybe the coding just doesn't lend itself to finding an easy solution.

I will post a reminder in the dev forum to see if there are any further ideas from the team now that XP11 is becoming more researched.

I am more than happy to try and get some shots of the airport in its current state, viewing angles from outwith the airfield are relatively good. I also have a couple of contacts at EDI's PR department, but I'm not sure if they'd be any use on the stance of airside photography.

Unfortunately the biggest single factor is the ground imagery, that is purchased initially and the airport is built around that, and cannot be just modified or replaced.

  5. OK I've just spent a few hours in the LOWI scenery seeing if I could pinpoint the points where the powerlines come from or two, and apart from one point, there's no physical tower that is associated with these lines.  The lines do not appear when the LOWI_Overlay layer is disabled.

I did discover however that the brown or grey swathes through the scenery in less than CAVOK conditions appears to have nothing to do with the ORBX scenery, because the same swathes appear when the ORBX scenery is disabled, and even when the LOWI demo area is disabled.  So that one might have to go back to Laminar for a fix.

The following screenshots should be self explanatory, the grey swathe shots are at various stages of disabling part or all of the Orbx scenery, while the powerlines shots attempt to pinpoint exactly where in the landscape the lines emanate from.  Unfortunately they are a bit bigegr than I like, to retain the GPS coord data visibility.

    Any questions are welcome.

For shadows have a look at my shadow fix. I found it really cleaned up the shadow rendering including external object shadows.  Btw they can be turned on/off with a data ref after loading without a scenery reload  which is really handy.

Yes I've applied that and it's great!  However the ridiculously dark walls on the shadow side of buildings, making villages look like a collection of black boxes when looking into the sun, is still really poor rendering of the scenery (IMHO)

  7. I see them all the time, but I guessed straightaway any fix to lighting would have adverse effects cropping up elsewhere in the sim.

I find X Plane's attitude that there's no problem worth fixing with the horrible dirty haze look and problems like these trees and horrible building shadows to be quite mystifying, I mean why wouldn't you fix up your pride and joy to be as good as it possible can be???

Thank you for your response, Nick.  As mentioned earlier, I performed a verification of the files... all okay.

I timed "loading terrain data @6%" and it took a solid 11 minutes+

It took just 3 minutes loading time to shoot from 6% to 100% thereafter.

Perhaps ORBX can investigate as there is definitely an issue since I performed the upgrade.

    Thank you / cheers,

    Herman

In response to your test I just performed a test.

Using the freeware Scenery Config Editor I unticked all scenery layers except:

    TE Netherlands

TE GB (as a flight might well go over the Channel)

All European Airports (those starting with an E)

    Orbx Libs

And the Open Landclass Europe scenery as well.

I also retained all my AU airports and the AU scenery as I intend to fly there tonight.

After I had selected a flight at Schipol, I hit Fly Now and it was just on 4 minutes to get past 6% and exactly 5 minutes to load the flight ready to take off.

If you're using a hard drive instead of an SSD I think 11 minutes is an expected time to load such dense scenery.  If you're using an SSD, it shouldn't be taking that long, unless you have many scenery layers active and some traffic programs and other intensive scenery items such as a high end airliner and other complex airports.

  9. I'm sure there will be a service pack coming along in due course as competing priorities with the devs allow.

Packages are maintained and serviced within reason, however, this and similar packages are only able to be released at the price of $50 odd because much of the coding work is able to be automated with clever software.  The software can produce millions of scenery items with a high degree of accuracy, however even a 1% rate of missing or completely wrong objects will still run into the tens of thousands.  I guess my point is you're looking at scenery that is over 99% accurate* across an entire country for $50, so I would think most people's expectations would be met by that performance.

    * accurate enough for a flight sim.

Actually never mind.  Still could have been modelled better though.  The concrete that goes into the water, the road and footpaths and the North Bank tower base for example.

True to a certain extent, however keep in mind the product and its price.  At $50 or near enough the product cannot be 'hand-crafted', the best efforts of the testers and devs goes in to making the product the best available with the resources at hand.  Some shortcomings will be evident no matter where you look, the point is it is an outstandingly accurate representation of a huge area and millions of data points at a very reasonable price.

  11. *****This post is only relevant if you have both Canberra Cityscape and YSCB Airport scenery installed.*****

If you notice a couple of areas where the autogen is missing, one between the airport and the city centre (west), and one the other side of the industrial area (south west) you can apply the following fix which should restore the missing houses.

    1.  In the...\ORBX\FTX_AU\FTXAA_YSCB\Scenery folder is a file named ORBX_YSCB_60cm_PR.bgl.  Rename this file to ORBX_YSCB_60cm_PR.bgl.OFF.

    2.  Additionally, I have found it might be beneficial to remove the following files from the YSCB\Scenery folder, as they are duplicated in the Cityscape folder.  I was getting a lot of flickering in the industrial estate buildings that seems to have disappeared now.

This is where the autogen is missing:

  12. The safest option is to delete all the FTX aircraft from the simobjects folder.  When a compatible traffic program is released it will put them all back.

You will lose Orbx AI traffic but the default should still appear.  (For what it's worth)

I have also deleted the GA Traffic bgl from Scenery\World\Scenery folder but it shouldn't be necessary once all the AI aircraft have gone.

If AI is very important to you, then going through the FTX aircraft in the simobjects folder one by one to identify which are fS9 models and deleting them is an option, (see post #9 above)
