  1. Pretty sure you will need to reinstall the main sim files but content and scenery etc should be ok to copy across.

Unless you get a better suggestion here's what I would do:

Create a mirror image of your P3D folder in the SSD.

Make a copy of the Lockheed Martin folders in your appdata and programdata folders so your settings are available if they don't save.

    Uninstall the sim.

Go to the LM site and download the core sim files only to install (can't remember what they are called) and install to the SSD. Hopefully this creates all the registry entries but leaves the appdata etc intact.

The other LM components should be available to the sim, and if you have lost your controls and other settings than overwrite the appdata and program data folders with your saved ones.

Your Orbx Central will need to be resync'ed but that's an easy process.

Once all is good, delete the entire LM folder from the old drive.

  2. I remember I also used to save the Lockheed Martin folders in C:\Program data I think it was, can't remember what was in them but I recall they were important

Ignore the smiley face it's what appears when I type a c followed by a colon.

It must be said that after so many resets, the greater likelihood is a hardware problem.

True! An easy way to test RAM properly is to download Memtest64 and follow the instructions to make a boot file that starts when you reboot your pc before Windows starts.  It will then perform a series of RAM checking tests that can take up to a few hours, however there is a screen that runs and it soon becomes obvious as it reports the number of faults found.  Much more rigorous and accurate than the built in Windows RAM checking software.  I discovered that my random shut downs were because my RAM was failing at 3600MHz but OK at 3200MHz.  It can be that simple.

Other possibilities are Power Supply and CPU getting too hot if it's not seated properly.

  4. I've heard that the Victorian government introduced legislation that requires all software developers to submit changes to opening screens to a citizens panel for approval. As yet no one on the panel has approved changes that would result in the removal of YMML from the splash screen, until they do it looks like we're stuck with it. 🙄

  5. I guess anyone can draw sketches and distribute them to the public, making it look like a developed proposal. But I can't see development costs being much less than the A380, which is reckoned to have cost $25 billion. So how in any known universe they could recover development costs with a fairly restricted market is beyond my comprehension.

Great set Emmsie. How the hell do you fly one of those beasts?

    Cheers

    Graeme :)

Easiest chopper to fly by far, but has a lot of momentum going into a turn so it skids wide, once you understand that and plan ahead, no dramas.

  7. I can't speak for the developers and whether they have any plans, but generally flightsim scenery is not updated for changes such as you mention.

You didn't say which sim you are referring to. If it's MSFS, there are areas around the world that are 10 years out of date. Even specific add-ons like Southern England will only be concerned with major landmarks and gross inaccuracies in the scenery, and once developed, become point in time representations until there are enough major changes across the country to make an update worth consideration.

Would've been nice had this been for P3Dv4.5 as well. It's way more stable and system friendly than v5/v6.

Not sure that is correct. When I had P3DV5 installed, with the same graphics capabilities as V4. 5, its performance was better and was equally stable. Maybe it would be better to spend some time getting to know what V5 can actually do, you might be surprised.

  9. I installed the new AutoFPS that has been getting rave reviews and fired it up along with MSFS.  Took a flight in VR and my LOD seemed quite low, even though the sim was really smooth, I thought I could do with a bit more LOD and less FPS.  But, with Windows Mixed Reality, in VR the mouse is trapped in the VR window, while the AutoFPS screen sits on the desktop.  No way that I know of to get it to display in the VR headset, and anyway can't really use the keyboard with the headset on.

So I got to wondering if there's a config file and sure enough...  in AppData\Roaming\MSFS2020_AutoFPS there's a file called MSFS2020_AutoFPS.config that is editable in Notepad.

Changing the value of the line:  <add key="targetFpsVR" value="40" />  to a different value (I chose 25) results in the new figure being the value after a restart of the app.

I guess there would be other values that might need to follow this approach for VR flight, though I did note that the other values I had changed in the PC mode were changed for VR as well, so it's a case of trial and error at the moment.

  10. My 3060ti gives me more than enough fps at 4k, in dense cities such as London and NY, reducing the scenery detail slider to 200 can be necessary depending on the weather. In fact, fps basically doesn't change when I go back to 1080p, proving that performance limitations are mostly cpu related. It might be different if you insist on running 100% Ultra settings across the board, but I find I can't see any difference between mostly High and all Ultra settings anyway.

While I certainly understand the economics of it, if P3d, FSX, and Xplane didn't exist then neither would Orbx.

Well yes, in the same way that if counting machines didn't exist then neither would IBM, but you don't see IBM trying to make a profit in selling the outdated technology do you?

  12. A quick google of the topic confirms that glass displays do not generally show the ah on the actual horizon in flight, some show high, some show low.  If you are in a fast cruise it will probably show quite low in this high performance plane. Several commentators advised to just make a mental note of where the bar sits in relation to the horizon line and use that as your reference.

If the model is correct the wing should be visually level or slightly up in the level cruise, only if it is obviously leading edge down would you assume that there's a problem with the model.

Thanks John, unfortunately they are out of stock. However I did find another supplier who said they had five left. Purchased one for $469 :)

Interesting. I just went to the site and put one in the cart and it was ready to check out. Anyway good job you got one

So, if I do something like this, would it exclude the Caribbean?

    LeH9D9x.png

I guess by renaming the folder it will be excluded right?

    I'm about to test this, I hope I won't cause a damage

    Cheers

    Carlos

It might work, but MSFS might find files it can work with like xml I don't know enough about it

Just cut and paste the folder somewhere you can always retrieve it, like in the SA mesh main folder.

In my opinion, the responsible files are all in folder 032

I have therefore renamed the file dem300.cgl to dem300.cgl.off_TFFG-TIST. It concerns TFFG and TIST

    and renamed dem303.cgl to dem303.cgl.off_TFFF-TFFR
    It concerns TFFF and TFFR

Sounds good but I think I will just keep the entire 032 out of the folder because there must be a whole lot of areas in the Caribbean that will show the popping mesh and unlike the Andes and Patagonia I don't think a finer detail mesh is as important.

  16. Just been playing with the mesh files and I have confirmed that by moving the five folders out of the CGL folder and dropping them elsewhere (in my case the SA Mesh folder was good enough), the problem goes away.  This would seem to lead to a temporary fix for anyone who wants most of SA to be Orbx meshed without the Caribbean.

I don't have time to do it myself but I'm guessing that if you move each of those folders numbered 032,210,211,212,and 213 back into the CVX folder one by one, you'll find the one that causes the problem at St Barths, and can leave it out, while the rest of South America continues to be meshed.

All this while waiting to hear if the Orbx devs are going to look at a solution, keeping in mind there's no compulsion for them to do anything!
