  1. Hi again Don

Also found this one in my little help folder I built myself

This is useful after the last update for the Kodiak a few months ago

I manage to "blow up" the engine  when I start on a fairly regular basis:(

    Hope this helps

  3. Hi Don

I have never experienced this.  But I don't start using crtl + E

I found this video and I always start using the procedure described in the video

Perhaps you could try this and see if you still have the fogging issue.

Well Pete, some great looking images here. Lots of color depth! But, how in the world did you end up out in that grass field? I see runway and then the next thing, off the range you go. :D

    Thank you Landon

    It is very much appreciated

I see runway and then the next thing, off the range you go

That pretty much described what happened.:o

I think that I came in to fast (didn't realize that a little plane could be  speed demon) , hit the brakes too late and

next thing the end of the runway lights were coming up very, very quickly and Bob's your uncle and i'm in the grass listening

to the crickets.  Need to work on my technique a lot more :lol::lol:

Fine shots. How is the FPS with DX12 + DLSS of this beta-version. Better than the actual DX11 graphics? Is their also a quality(color-contrast-sharpness) improvement?

    Thank you

As far as FPS goes at the moment, for me it is pretty much on pare with DX11.  However, it is silky smooth and offers so much more potential

to be great than does DX11 imho. At the present time, image quality as best as I can tell is pretty much identical, but I believe in the future that will

    change considerably.

One thing to realize is that DX12 is identical to Vulkan in one respect.  It is a graphics API that is very much closer to the coalface as they say. In other words a lot of the interface that DX11 provides in terms of system management, which means basically that things take more time to execute doesn't exist in the DX12 design.  As a result the GPU and CPU  are linked much more closely together, which means that a great deal of the processing overhead is eliminated and graphics is executed much more quickly. This also means that the alternative to do much more in terms of improved graphics quality and visual fidelity is much higher in DX12 without incurring a huge processing load to the graphics engine.

But it does mean that a lot of things that were handled pretty much  automatically in DX11 have to be dealt with more directly by the graphics game developer in DX12 to get optimal performance.  Such things like resource allocation in the GPU and memory management are handled by the graphics rendering engine itself, rather than the drivers as in Dx11.  This means in DX12 that the workload will be distributed across cores in a multicore CPU much more evenly if it is optimized properly.  However this optimization does take time to get developed .

The biggest advantage to DX12 though is that it is a true multi processing graphics environment. In DX 11 basically everything was done an item at a time, whereas in DX12 many events can be handled simultaneously. This means that in a graphics scene, things that are changing can be given more priority while those that are not are given less. So for example an airplane flying against a sky background through a DX12 process called motion adaptive  shading, the developer can provide stellar image quality to the plane while devoting less resources to the sky which may be changing less rapidly between frames. In DX11 the entire scene is rendered the same every frame.

Anyone who was part of the XPlane Vulkan beta, will remember how many integrations were required before they got the memory allocation in Vulkan to behave.  So basically there is a lot of work to do in the journey before the end result comes.

When I retired I decided I needed to learn something new to keep my brain cells as active as I could.  I have always been fascinated by how computer images are generated and decided that would be something worth learning about. In my case, I ended up writing all my own shaders to adjust image quality in MS2020 , and before that in DX11.  So in MS I turn all the graphics, sharpening etc off in the configuration files and for better or worse, what you see in my screen shots is my own doing.  There is no post processing involved after a screenshot is taken, aside from basic colour management principles to imbed a .icc file in the image to ensure that what you see on a web browser is as close as possible to what is rendered on my computer.  In other words what I see is what you get.

For me it has become a fascinating hobby in its own right and something which I have come to enjoy as much as flying and exploring the world in MS.

Thanks for the questions . I appreciated them

    All the best

Different.  What he has done is to work out a very nice way of combining the settings for cloud layers etc  together to get the results

Think of them as presets basically that combine what is available in the weather screen.

  5. Just a few at KSBA, after a win11 reinstallation .... Don't ask, I don't wish this on anyone :(

MS2020 Beta 10, DX12, DLSS - Quality mode and my usual poor piloting skills.

Well maybe a bit better than usual because it was quite windy.

All I can say is I think the runways shrunk!  I remember them being a lot longer than this.

Or maybe my brakes failed.... who knows but I remained upright and no flight simmers were

injured in the making of this sequence

    Cheers all

Clouds are the latest from Floyd's Epic Clouds available at flightsim.to

If you aren't into real weather, I really recommend them highly.  Just a folder drop into the community folder and very good quality with

no noticeable impact at all on system load.  They then show up in the Weather dropdown along with all the other clouds

    the world is struggling with.

It is a single seater version, handles like a dream and is just a load of fun to fly.

    Hello Pete,

    many thanks as ever.

I also thought I had found a solution, for me, when I went back to Nvidia driver 516.40 but it only lasted a couple of sessions and the

    memory access error was back.

There does seem to be a different error that results from trying to run Windows without a swap file and that one is cause and effect.

The memory access error has a mind of its own, apparently affects thousands of users and is an acknowledged problem for investigation

    at the Asobo/Microsoft site.

Of course, it also does not affect thousands of users as well, so forums are full of "I can't use this" versus "it's working for me" posts, which

of course, help no one and make good advice harder to find.

Occasionally, MSFS will just vanish too, with no error message and the only event in the event viewer is that flightsimulator.exe has stopped working,

which of course one has already spotted.

Sometimes, there is not even an event.

I suppose that we all add addons and Microsoft are quick to blame them, but in my experience, all of these things have happened in MSFS "Safe Mode"
too, which tends to rule out third party stuff, but not of course all the things that they have added themselves over the past two years.

A log, like XPlane 11 would be really helpful, both to them and us.

I would not be surprised if such a system was available to its developers and if not, it should be.

In the meantime, all positive ideas are good ones, so thank you once again.

No worries NIck. Hopefully it may help someone

This is definitely a frustrating error and sometimes really difficult to fix.

I agree completely that it would be so nice to have an event log, both from a user perspective and also for the MS2020 help desk folks

Hopefully it will come at some point.

BTW , there is an alternative to the Event viewer that some folks may find easier to use

The steps and the shortcut creation are applicable for Win10/11 .

If you do a search for security and maintenance , click on view reliability history and wait for it to open

you will see a nice graph like the following .  Anything in red is a critical event e.g. Ms2020 CTD.

If you then click on view technical details under the Action tab , you will then get a detailed message listing all the same information that is given in the event viewer.

You can click on any day and then click on an individual event  to get the detailed error message for it.

I am on Win11 and it has its fair share of issues with different apps.  Mainly, on my machine notepad.exe keeps failing (a common problem from what I found out)

BTW - my deliberate forced CTD that I mentioned with XMP didn't even show up in the event viewer as per your experience.

    1-Reliability-Monitor-Graph.png

    2-Details-Tab.png

If you don't want to go through the above sequence , you can right click anywhere on the desktop and select create a shortcut

In the input box type perfmon /rel  (this is perfmon space /rel )  , select next and give the shortcut a name.

Now when you click it, it will take you directly to the reliability graph, bypassing the above sequence of steps.

I  found this a slightly easier method to get to the information than the event viewer.

    Cheers

    Pete

Cool shots Pete!  I love the yellow, but what an odd looking plane.  It just looks so unlike a plane doesn't it?  I wonder how it flys in real life, is it dangerous?

It is that. The idea is a very good one , although it seems it had a very tough time early on.

  15. Like Landon , I have had no issues with CTD's  (I'm using SU10 Beta)

This was not the case about 2 months ago , and no matter what I did I was getting them sometimes multiple times/day. But then

I could go for days without any issues, repeatedly flying over the exact same spot where I was getting a CTD,

In fact , with SU10 beta , just to check before posting this I caused a CTD about 10 minutes into a flight by making a small change.

Now this may well be unique to me, but it has been documented at the MS official website.

It's a simple thing , even though it doesn't make much sense to me.

It also may be totally unique to my computer , so take all this with the preverbal grain of salt.

If I go into Bios and turn XMP (extreme memory profile) to ON   I can guarantee that I will have have a CTD

Turned off and MS2020 is absolutely rock solid stable.

However, these CTD's are very random and sometimes I would go for days to a more than a week with no issues. As you can imagine, every time

that happened my hope that I finally found the culprit and fixed the problem would vanish in words not allowed on a family friendly website.

Does it make a difference to how MS2020 performs.  Not at all as far as I can tell.  I still can fly at 60 fps locked without any issues, my computer

is just as responsive as it has always been.  All I can say is that on my machine, for whatever reason when SU9 came along it decided that

it didn't like having XMP on.

My suspicion is that I have a bad memory stick, but running multiple memory tests by the folks that built it has found nothing.

Nothing else on my machine exhibits this behavior. I also had no issues until SU9 came along.

In my case, turning XMP off completely fixed the issue.  My performance hasn't changed one bit, and my installation is rock solid stable as I said.

Am I recommending this ... No, not really .  But if you have checked absolutely everything else and found no solution , all I can say is that you might want to consider it.

I know that there are lots of people who enjoy MS2020 and have XMP turned ON without any issues whatsoever.  I've given up having any interest

in the why this happens and why it happens to me and not to other members who have it on without issues.

I believe though that it was  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, stated by Sherlock Homes "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."  I guess "my truth" is that  on my system  XMP causes MS2020 to behave in a random unstable manner.

MS2020 is not only a wonderful product that I enjoy immensely, but it is also the most frustrating program at times that I have ever used.

    Cheers

    Pete

I saw that last night on the V-Tail , hopefully some reviews will be out shortly .

"have had no issues at all"

And that unfortunately is the crux of the problem.  Some don't and are very happy with the beta,

others have had significant issues.  Overall I am very pleased with the beta but am disappointed with ...

    1) DLSS is a bit of a letdown.  I know what it is capable of from other interests and at the moment it is a poor implementation and not

representative of what it can be.

    2) DX12 has a memory optimization issue that is very noticeable at times for a user with a 8 GB Vram card. For those with 10-12++ GB

vram it seems to not be an issue.

    1) And the purpose of the beta - look for things that don't work properly and/or are not properly optimized.

Document and report them to the developer.

    2) Listen carefully to the people participating in the beta and respond accordingly by fixing what is wrong and retest,

even though it may delay the final release of the updated version of the program.

It is gratifying  that Microsoft is responding to this beta in the fashion that they are.

For me, forget all the technical details of the beta for the moment .  That is the real winner for all users

    of MS2020 :)

    Cheers

Fantastic shots Pete! Raises the bar indeed.

    John.

    Thanks JM

Makes you wish that all scenery would be like this:)

The amazing thing to me is that there is no discernable impact

on system resources that I could see.

Kinda knocks it on the head for the naysayer argument that

you can't have this kind of quality  without a large fps impact.

For me that is the real magic in this. It opens a whole new

world of developer opportunities I feel .

    See you and thanks again

Nice shots. Yes the bar sure has been raised. The lady in the blue dress at the bar

has just had her drink spiked by the guy next to her, she is on her way up for sure.

You will have to purchase this first class scenery to get the facial clues.

I own 100 plus Orbx & Partner sceneries and this one would be at the top of the tree.

Please all show your support to encourage some more of this quality.

    Really well said Kevin

He really does deserve our continued support,

    Thanks

Great shots and coverage Pete.  Everyone is going to Belfast it seems, I was there midweek and took a few pics, unfortunately due to poor health, me and the dog:D, I have only got to post a few of them today.
