  1. Hi Paul

I have the Rex Accuseasons and also one made by Bijain Studios.

If you were thinking of a product made by Bijain ... Bijain's was very good, but as far as I know, he is no longer involved in further development of the product .

The version of the Bijain product that I have  is easy enough to use , but it is mainly a setup with file folders etc (at least my version).

Although not complicated to set up, it is not  the same in as the Rex product.

Rex is reliable, is regularly updated by Rex to remain compatible with MS2020 updates, has additional regional areas of interest which are added from time to time,

and has a very user friendly interface which I like .

I use Rex all the time now and have not used the other product  in a long while.

I hope this may be of some help.

    Cheers

    Pete

Just for curiosity  - because I wonder what the benefits of doing this extra work of separating each addon gives

I realise that from Start - to First screen - is slowed by MS uploading all that is contained in the Community file

    but does that matter ??

I just started MS and it took 2 mins 45 secs - wo to go -  and my Community is 260GB at the moment

I don't know how long MS takes to load without Community - but it can't be much less? - Let's say for arguments sake

    - it takes 1min 30 secs - is another minute that important to risk NOT finding what you want to load in less time??

When it is update time - as Nick says - just rename the Community folder - or place it elsewhere until you have updated

    Hi John

I understand what you are getting at, but I think in a sense, this ultimately comes down to very specifically what do you have as a MS2020 installation

and what is your machine hardware.  In that respect, each of us are unique.

For example on my system my community folder is 910 GB . Admittedly I do have a lot of addons.

With a clean community folder , my load time (MS2020 Premium Deluxe edition) from a test today is 1.07.21 mins.

If everything is activated, my load time is 4:16:39 .  Therefore, for my particular installation it makes sense to me to split things up.

Is this applicable to everyone. No of course not, as each of us are different.

It is a completely personal decision, if you feel the "risk" of not finding something to load is important verses load time.

However, it does really depend on your particular personal situation.  Somedays, loading everything, doesn't matter as I go off

and make a "cuppa" while MS2020 is doing its thing.

Depending on what I am doing, I may decide I don't want to wait and generally loading a subset is done in less than 1 ½  -  2 mins.

For me, its not really a major issue if I then need to do a restart to load another area , if I want to do something else.

I have participated in many MS2020 betas now, and the ability to selectively bring new addons in  or delete potentially offending ones

    in that situation is important.

In a normal situation, Nicks advice as always is spot on, and a tool like Addons linker is not necessary. However, there are other situations

that are the unique to each of us, where I feel such a tool is very useful.

    All the best:)

  3. Hi Wayne

I've been using it ever since it was available

Just to add to the discussion , I find the ability to create presets with it invaluable.

For example you can create a preset with everything you have in your community folder

The to delete everything , is just a right click and your community folder is empty .

Load the preset you just created and everything is back

    or ...

Something I do a lot. I create presets for individual geographical areas. Then if I plan on flying in just Europe as an example

I just load that preset and all my European airports and addons are brought into the Community folder, but nothing else is.

It does save loading time, if you have a lot of things in your community folder.

Here is a short video that gives a good overview of how it is installed and works...

    Cheers

Thanks Pete, Glad that you liked them.

It shows how old and forgetful I am becoming! I remember that problem and thought that I had deleted it. As you rightly say, it is still there. I will delete it (again? ) today.

    Thanks for reminding me ;)

    No worries Paul

I think I may be on my 5th (delete again ), for this.

    I keep forgetting too :)

  7. Hi Paul

    These are outstanding!

I especially like the ambience of the second to last one.:)

It made me think "doesn't matter what is going on around them, they only have eyes for each other".

One minor thing , that I struggled with until I found out what had happened.  In Su10 I think it was , Asobo added a custom airport and scenery for KAVX, along

    with the harbour area.

It's almost a perfect overlay for the Orbx one, but not quite e.g. there are two flags in the inner court yard and some vehicles

are misplaced with respect to the Orbx folks as well as some buildings are in odd places down by the harbour.

If you go into the content manager , you can search for KAVX and delete it . This will remove the Asobo rendering and allow the Orbx

work to render correctly. If you ever want it back, you can just reinstall it, as it will show in the content manager as uninstalled.

Cheers & just gorgeous images :)

    I love em all!!

  8. Lots more exploring to do here

I thought that if I "snuck in" with the Pan Am livery ( freeware for Orbx & SimHeaven :)) , no one would notice

    that I wasn't exactly a modern jet.

Luckily I'm still here and had a chance to have a quick look.  It was early morning, so it wasn't too busy

So far so good .... Got everything shut down, and no one came buy to say you can't park here.

    We're all good to go!

    1-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-26-34.j

Immediately, I really liked the quirky nature of the place ... Just the spot to first arrive for an Italian holiday.
    2-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-27-14.j

My initial reaction was that this place was small, but then I realized I really needed to have a good look

It's not , by the way and stretches on for quite a way.
    3-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-27-39.j

Why do I have the vague feeling that is it door A or door B and will you end up at the same spot when you come through?

    Decisions ...
    4-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-28-11.j

Just a comment from a modeling fidelity point of view. This airport is very well done , with great detail.  I especially like the fact that the vegetation

is of the same quality as the rest of the assets.  Well done guys, very well done indeed!
    5-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-28-39.j

As  I mentioned earlier , there is a lot to this place.
    6-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-29-33.j

Where I live it's cold, and snowy  and the days are short at the moment.  Taking a quick drone tour through Lica, was just the tonic

to make me dream again of the next vacation somewhere warm and sunny :D
    7-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-29-58.j

Its nice to see the firefighting scoopers all set up and ready to go when needed...
    8-Flight-Simulator-2022-11-27-23-30-48.j

And as you can see this is as far as I got.  Time for bed and more exploring to do.

Who knows I might even try a landing or two ...  but don't hold your breath that I will manage the DC3 :o

And to the team at Orbx - Well done folks :). This is a classic and a great jumping off point for exploring this part of the world.

You've exceeded expectations on this one!

    Cheers

  9. Just me plodding along in a cessna out and about in Oz.

just a km or two from Mackay in Queensland.

But what struck me, is this sim is is starting to look pretty reasonable ( I know beauty is in the eye

of the beholder, so humour me on this one  :lol:)

I have REX accusseasons set to update every few days  and it is interesting to observe springtime down under

as each flight is just that little bit different.

  11. This is wonderful stuff :)

I noticed at another website that there were a great many complaints about an annoying rattle in the Beaver.

Unfortunately many were accompanied with the obligatory negative comments that seem to accompany any new MS2020 offering .

They stopped shortly after it was mentioned that one could simply tighten up the oil filler cap to stop the rattle. :)

    Imagine that !

This level of detail and realism is just simply outstanding . It's a wonderful time to be involved in this hobby:D

Thank you for sharing this Nick.... It made my day,  well possibly the whole week !

  12. Here is an article that explains what this setting does ...

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/reflex-low-latency-platform/

Since my preferred  "operational mode"  for MS2020 is a Cessna 152, locked at 30 fps

i.e. low and very slow I can , after conclusive testing report that  ...

On my system , for my type of flying this setting has nada, zippo , nul, none  .... no difference in anything that I can see

However, your individual mileage may vary and I could see how this option could affect behaviors at much higher fps or with

much faster aircraft than my preference.

It is very good that with each update we are treated to technology options which are designed to enhance our flight sim experience.

Just my 2 cents to this subject...

As long as DX12 is still in beta I'm not going to use it.

When introducing DX12 beta months ago, MS/Asobo warned that this might cause odd behavior of the sim depending on the system.

At last ironing out such issues is the purpose of a beta.

     Hi Wolfgang

It is good to hear that you have a technology solution that works for you and you can enjoy MS2020.:)

  14. Hi Don

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

The  comment you made in relation to a answer to John D

Thanks John, can't quite understand why now? I haven't had this problem before the update.

Asobo has been known throughout many updates to change some items related to how they describe the internal file/folder structures that

are an integral part of any download that you put into the community folder.

In any community folder item, within the folder that you downloaded and installed there always will be two files called  layout.json and manifest.json

In addition there are often other .json files depending on what the add on developer has put into their product.

These files tell MS2020 what is in the addon and more importantly how to find certain specific items . E.g. in the layout.json file for example

there are specific entries for the path, size and date of every item that is part of the addon

Unfortunately, if you have a folder that worked for Su10 as an example , if Asobo has respecified their description , or if they have added to the description beyond that used in a previous MS2020 version this update will either not work, stop MS2020 from loading or cause a CTD

At flightsim.to, when you are down loading a file, there is always an indicator which sim update the addon has been tested with.

If you are downloading a non Su11 file, you just need to be aware that it make work perfectly fine, or it may cause you issues  (this is why products such as addons linker are so helpful).

    Some thoughts ....

    1) You mentioned a while ago that you had malware on your machine .  What did you use to remove it, and if you now have a commercial product such as Malwarebytes

have you looked at its detection history to see if it has quarantined any files, especially any that may be part of your MS2020 installation.

    2) Are you now completely sure that your machine is clean and have you checked ?

    3) Then I would suggest you try the following:

    a) Close MS2020
    b) Sign out of  the XBox app and the MS Store
    c) Restart your PC
    d) Sign back into the MS Store first and then sign into the  Xbox app
    e) Then try MSFS2020 again.

    4) If this doesn't work and you are completely sure that your machine is clean  and

you are using a commercial malware solution, temporarily turn off the malware program and try to start MS2020 again.

If you are still having difficulties then follow these steps for Microsoft Defender (again only  if you are completely sure your machine is clean)

These steps are from the second microsoft article link that I have posted below....

    DISABLE YOUR SECURITY SOFTWARE

Antivirus and malware checkers can close down or prevent certain applications from launching, even if they are legitimate and safe.

Open Windows Defender and turn off real-time protection.

    • In the Cortana search box, type "Windows Security"
    • Open "Windows Security" > "Virus & Threat protection" > "Manage settings"
    • Disable "Real-time protection"

Stop Windows Defender from blocking Microsoft Flight Simulator by adding the launcher to the exclusions list

    • Go to Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
    • Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions.
    • Select Add an exclusion, and then select Microsoft Flight Simulator. A folder exclusion will apply to all subfolders within the folder as well.

Temporarily disable your security program(s) before launching Microsoft Flight Simulator

False positives occur when your antivirus software incorrectly identifies safe software as malicious. If your antivirus or anti-malware falsely flagged Microsoft Flight Simulator remove the file from quarantine if necessary then whitelist Microsoft Flight Simulator. To do so follow the instructions from your manufacturer.

    • Sample of Virus & malware checkers that have been known to prevent Microsoft Flight Simulator from launching:
      • Malwarebytes
      • Trend Micro Maximum Security
      • Comodo Antivirus
      • Sophos
      • Emisoft Anti-Malware
      • Avira
      • Avast & Avast Cleanup
      • Bullguard

If the sim loads normally after disabling your security program, whitelist Microsoft Flight Simulator before turning the program back on. To do so, refer to your security software's support website.
