More image hosting sites do this. That's why I use my own webspace to share images/photographs.

    That's a good plan :)

The old adages do ring true  "You can have things fast, you can have things cheap, you can have things good. Which 2 of the 3 do you want?"

And the more basic one - "there is no such thing as a free lunch",

I agree   - a lot of image hosting sites now fall into this area.

  3. Hi

Postimage is now using 1280 x 720 as its default image size for linked images. It does this resizing for any file size

    larger than the 720p size (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4K)

The issue with this resizing is that most folks will upload a  image as a  jpeg (.jpg ) format. Unfortunately, jpegs are a lossy format

to begin with (they lose information when resized) and this is especially noticeably if you take a  higher resolution .jpg and resize it.

This is what I believe John is seeing.

I also use Postimage for my screenshots , and I noticed that everything that I have  linked in such things as PM's  is now displaying

as a 1280x720 file size with quite poor quality.

I've been doing a little bit of experimentation since I saw John's note and found that the following procedure works well in terms

    of image quality.

If one wishes to keep using Postimage  you can down sample your image in a photo editor  package to1280 x 720 and

save it as a .png file which is  a lossless format (no information is lost when it is compressed) .   With .png fomats you can use

the maximum available compression of 9 without issues to significantly reduce the file size.

Postimage will accept this file size and not change it .  I use Lanczos downsampling for resizing , as it is the generally

accepted highest quality , none AI based down sampling method and virtually all editing packages have it.

You can of course apply a little bit of sharpening after you have resizing  if you wish,

    Hope this is of help

Here is a snap  taken at Bern using the above approach

The image originally was taken at 1440p

Or with a bit of sharpening applied after resizing ....

And lastly the original 1440p image using Imgur

    Greetings.

Where do I find the XMP file? Not sure where the bios is either.

I’m an older guy and not the sharpest with this.

Thanks for any help and patience.

    Hello porsche

This video may be of help.

XMP is a memory overclocking procedure that helps to ensure that the system memory in your computer (the ram)  will run at its rated speed.

It is a very safe process and as you will see in the video is just a single click to turn it on and then everything is handled automatically.

The bios , which stands for basic input , output system is the very basic front end operating system which runs the  functions required by the processor to start your machine. It also controls some very basic functions such as looking after data flow to external devices  such as the keyboard, mouse , hard disks etc.

Windows runs on top  of the bios.  Normally, it is something that you will never see as it starts when you turn your machine on, and  runs very quickly just before windows begins to load.

As with most things on a computer, the best advice I can give is not to click things randomly to see what will happen.  As explained in the video,  by pressing a key, normally the delete or F2 key when the machine is starting , your machine will go into the bios system. Then you simply look for the section identified as XMP and their will

be a click spot which you can use to turn it on. You then just click save and exit and your machine will then start windows.

If you want to turn XMP off,  you just click the same key and then save and exit.

The only tricky bit that sometimes gets missed by folks , is that because the bios is a very basic system, it requires devices to be wired to it. So if you have a wireless key

board and mouse combination they will not be recognized by the bios.  This is because the communication between these devices is done through windows.

So if you don't have a wired mouse/keyboard  that is available to you, then don't attempt to go into the bios to do the above.  If you do manage to get get into it, without a wired connection you won't be able to navigate around, nor exit from it.   As far as I know, you should be able to power the machine off, if this happens and then it should start normally.  However, motherboards and bios can be a bit tricky and there is the remote chance that it will stay in bios rather than starting up normally and running windows.  In that case you will have to get a wired connection to be able to tell it to exit from the bios.

I hope that this is of some help to you.

However, I do have a question and it is why do you want to get into the bios at all.  In my particular case, with the passage of time, these issues I had specifically  in hindsight,  seemed very much to be a SU10 issue with the problems I was having.  It disappeared with SU11 and I have since  turned my XMP back on and not had any issues with it.

The best advice I can give is that unless you feel very comfortable  in doing the above, then I would leave well enough alone.  MS2020 stability has improved so much since SU10 then I am not sure if the problems that were present in previous versions  really have any bearing on the situation today.

I did read that you are having reoccurring issues with  CTD's which can be very frustrating .   I am not convinced anymore that the above discussion is really relevant to the current version of the software and I wouldn't really expect that that disabling the XMP  would make any difference to the stability.

However, if you wish to go about disabling the process, the above should give you a good idea on how to do it.

    Cheers

Last several days I've been getting the "low bandwidth" message and being switched to Offline Mode.  Or that I don't have a connection to the internet.  I've checked with my provider and all is well, plus I can stream any number of movies, UTube, etc with no issues.  Changing servers in the MSFS menu makes no difference.  Unplayable at this point.  Tried the uninstall/reinstall route and the repair method as well.

    Rob

This message has nothing to do with your machine , but is caused by server issues with  MS as far as I know.

Whenever I get it I just click OK, and continue on. I don't get switched to offline mode ,  and then in a few minutes  I get a green box saying connection has been restored

However, as near as I can tell , I have never been switched off, as the Data selections don't switch to offline.

It is very annoying , no doubt about it.

However sometimes with computers, and it may only be specifically to me, but the adage to "keep calm and carry on" and just sit on your hands, while it sorts itself out

seems to be the best policy I have found.

    Cheers

  6. Hi Mikee

Sorry to hear about your difficulties.  I have not experienced what you are seeing.

One thing to be aware of , and to check , is related to the freeware addons, especially if you get them

from Flightsim.to.  All downloads , will have a compatibility check indicator indicating which sim update they have been verified with.

You need to scroll down a bit to see it.

My experience to date is that if the update is not verified to work with the latest sim update (at the time of writing Sim update 11), then you can

expect potentially to find issues.  Not guaranteed , but generally highly likely in my experience.

Unfortunately, it seems that many of my favourite addons, don't get updated on a regular basis which is disappointing, but I guess that comes

    with the freeware territory .

However, the issues can also potentially occur between payware addons as you observe.

In that case I would check with each payware vendor to determine if their product is compatible with the latest sim update, and if the answer is yes, then

I would contact their support to tell them of your issue.

Hope this is of some help

    Cheers
