  1. Thanks, seby.h. Perhaps that is the case. I haven't tried these either. The wording in the email led me to believe that simply downloading the Santa Run freeware was all that was required to earn the 10 Orbs, but maybe I misunderstood.
  2. I agree with many of the above sentiments. In addition, an email was sent out a few days ago saying that one could earn 10 Orbs by downloading the Santa Run freeware. The email states, "Earn Orbs when you download the Santa Run!" and "Start flying and earn 10 Orbs." I took that to mean that I could earn 10 Orbs by simply downloading the freeware. I did so, but have not received any Orbs. Perhaps one must do something more than simply downloading the Santa Run in order to earn the Orbs, but if so, that doesn't seem very clear. Perhaps I have misunderstood. Could we have some clarification on that, @Nick Cooper?
  3. Thank you, Iain! Merry Christmas to you, Ayiesha, and Mr Rollo!
  4. Very sad news. I corresponded with Neil on a number of occasions via the forums and email regarding FTX Global freeware airports and his "misfit" airports project. As others have said, he was a true gentleman who was passionate and prolific in his work. Among his many superb FTX Global freeware creations was a detailed, outstanding rendition of my local airport KBUY (a project he very kindly took on at my request), as well as other airports in my area. He also fixed a large number of "misfit" airports that I pointed out in his misfit airports thread. The work he did on these airports was excellent; he was meticulous (and fast!) in recreating the airports in accordance with their real-world counterparts and in ensuring the accuracy of his work. Neil told me this once in an email: "I use the doing of these airports as something to keep me busy, and add (hopefully) to the enjoyment of others. I'm 77 yrs old and NEED something to keep me busy and mind occupied." Neil certainly has added to my enjoyment and the enjoyment of countless others and left a great legacy in the massive body of airports he created for Orbx, and most of us here know little of his life beyond just this one small corner. I am glad to have had the opportunity to correspond with him and am very grateful for the work he did. Neil will be missed by many. My condolences to his family, friends, and the Orbx team.
  5. Welcome to North Carolina! I hope you like it here! KHKY would be a nice addition to the freeware airport pack. I'm biased since it's my home state, but North Carolina is indeed a nice place that would make an excellent Orbx region. North Carolina has the highest mountains in the Eastern United States; the Piedmont region with its many cities, towns, hills, forests, and fields; the flat farmland of the Inner Coastal Plain; and a varied coastline with beaches, sounds, and the Outer Banks, where the Wright brothers made their first powered flight. With such beautiful and varied scenery and an important place in aviation history, I think North Carolina would be a great candidate for an Orbx region. (Imagine a North Carolina TrueEarth region! ) I'd also love to see Orbx regions covering Virginia and New England and...well...the entire East Coast!
  6. Here's a list of the misfit airports I found in North Carolina. (Some of the issues are more minor than others, and I'm not sure if all of them count as misfits. Some might also be remedied with the Vector AEC tool; I would have to test that to see.) Some of the airports now have new names or ICAO codes in the real world, but I've listed them as they are listed in FSX. 2A5 - Causey - Liberty, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbji 3A4 - Southeast Greensboro - Greensboro, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjk http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbj2 4W7 - Hurdle - Mebane, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjB 7NC2 - Pine Island - Corolla, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjH http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjI 8A7 - Twin Lakes - Mocksville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjA 9NC0 - Raleigh East - Knightdale, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjL 31A - Sugar Valley - Mocksville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbj9 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjO 78A - Swan Creek - Jonesville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbju 79NC - Ball - Louisburg, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjb KCLT - Charlotte/Douglas Intl - Charlotte, NC (In the real world, this airport has also had a new runway added since FSX was released.) http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjK KEDE - Northeastern Regl - Edenton, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjh http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjr KEWN - Craven Co Regl - New Bern, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjt KFBG - Simmons AAF - Ft Bragg, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjQ http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbja http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjM KGSB - Seymour Johnson AFB - Goldsboro, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjg http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjl http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjn KILM - Wilmington Intl - Wilmington, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbx6 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbj5 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbj8 KINT - Smith Reynolds - Winston-Salem, NC (A large transmission tower is standing very close to the approach path.) http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjc KJNX - Johnston Co - Smithfield, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjV http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjd KLHZ - Franklin Co - Louisburg, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjs KMCZ - Martin Co - Williamston, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjR KNCA - New River MCAS - Jacksonville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjW KNJM - Bogue MCALF - Swansboro, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjX KNKT - Cherry Point MCAS - Cherry Point, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbj4 KPGV - Pitt-Greenville - Greenville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjw http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjz http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjZ http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbj7 KPOB - Pope AFB - Fayetteville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbje http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjD KRDU - Raleigh-Durham Intl - Raleigh/Durham, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjP http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjp http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjY KSOP - Moore Co - Pinehurst/Southern Pines, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjo KTDF - Person Co - Roxboro, NC (It appears that neither one of the ponds in these screenshots exists in the real world.) http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjU http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjv KZEF - Elkin Mun - Elkin, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbxG N21 - Holly Ridge/Topsail I - Holly Ridge, NC (As with KINT, another large transmission tower very close to the approach path.) http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjj N61 - Hinshaw - Liberty, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjx N88 - Keck's - Julian, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbjC NC74 - Lone Hickory - Yadkinville, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbxT The following two airports are airports in the FTX Global NA Airport Pack. A Vector update added realistically drawn beaches to the North Carolina coast after these freeware airports were released, and now the airport background textures no longer mesh properly with the beaches. I'm not sure if this thread is the right place for these, but I thought I'd go ahead and point it out. I'm not sure what's causing it.) http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbxF http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbx0 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/Gbjq http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/GbxN
  7. Thanks again, Neil, for all your work on the misfit airports and freeware airports! I just checked a large number of airports in North Carolina and found a number of misfit airports. I'll probably post a list of them with screenshot links tonight or tomorrow morning. I hope to do something similar for Virginia (I think I've already found some more misfit airports there) and check some airports in other states, as well.
  8. Great suggestions! Just so you know and can go check it out, 2B3 Parlin Field has been done already.
  9. I'm an FSX user, and I see the same problem you do, Dominique. The problem also occurs with a small construction area included in the Global freeware rendition of my local airport, as you can see in this thread: Texture Displaying Incorrectly at KBUY. The issue is caused by OLC NA. I assume, based on the screenshot above, that Spud doesn't have OLC NA installed; thus, his textures display correctly.
  10. Thanks for posting that link! I don't think I've ever seen those freeware airfields before. I'll have to check those out.
  11. If you need a couple more, here are a couple more suggestions: 5NC3 - Gilliam-McConnell - Carthage, NC (An interesting airport with a popular barbecue restaurant.) W88 - Air Harbor - Greensboro, NC Thanks for taking our suggestions and for all your hard work on these airports, Neil!
  12. I'm a native North Carolinian, and I love it here. Obviously, I'm probably a little biased, but it's among my favorite areas, too. Glad to see other simmers enjoy flying here; maybe one day Carolina will get the full Orbx region treatment!
  13. Neil, if you're looking for additional interesting small airports for the pack you're working on, these airports in the mountains of North Carolina might fit the bill: 0A7 - Hendersonville / 8NC9 - W.N.C. Air Museum - Hendersonville, NC (These two airports are adjacent to each other. 0A7 is a paved public airport, while 8NC9 is a grass airstrip that is home to the Western North Carolina Air Museum. They are rather poorly represented in the default scenery.) 22W - Transylvania County - Brevard, NC (Listed as 3NR3 on AirNav.com.) 24A - Jackson Co - Sylva, NC (This airport is located atop a mountain ridge.) 7A8 - Avery Co - Spruce Pine, NC NC14 - Boone Inc - Boone, NC You may also want to check out these: 0B1 - Bethel Regl - Bethel, ME KXSA - Tappahannock-Essex County - Tappahannock, VA (This airport does not exist in FSX. It is a new airport that has replaced W79, which is now closed.) W75 - Hummel - Saluda, VA W91 - Smith Mountain Lake - Moneta, VA
  14. Here's one more: KETC - Tarboro-Edgecombe - Tarboro, NC http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/G0kv http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/G026
