Object Library Conversion Project at Return to Misty Moorings

We have started a new project at Return to Misty Moorings (RTMM) to make sure we are not only "DX10 Ready" (completed) but also eventually compatible with Prepar3D (ongoing).  Part of the new RTMM effort is to be  ready to run our RTMM scenery addons on top of the soon to arrive P3Dv2 Orbx Regions in Alaska (SAK, PFJ) and the Pacific Northwest, we have embarked on a project to convert our object libraries as well as our partner’ libraries (including the RWY12 and EZ_1) to be compatible with P3Dv2.  We have secured permission on our partner libraries to "convert" their objects to the proper format.  We know many people use these object libraries (and many download some of them from RTMM).  We are probably going to use the present title of the library but add a FSX.P3D into the name so people will know that is a converted library.  Some of this is still under discussion.

At present, if you look down our scenery page, 99% of our scenery additions are "DX10 Ready".  We have replaced over 2000 objects on the main scenery page and on The Cabins page so everything we have will be seen properly when DX10 is used with FSX. But we are also finding that converting some of those old objects makes them "DX10 Ready" just as easily. We will be able to "use" many of those older objects with a conversion process Rod Jackson has devised for us. Those conversions will be part of our new object libraries. Again, we are in the development stages, but have made a great deal of progress already.

Our goal is to be "ready" for P3D when the technical tsunami washes over our shores and into our misty moorings.  We will keep you posted. Comments are welcome.

Hi All ... ok as an update on the first post. We have completed our project to combine the object libraries we were using (with author permission) and we now have TWO object libraries for what we call FSXP3D ... there is a Part 1 and Part II.  We were able to convert most of the objects so they can now be seen in FSX, DX10 and Prepar3D.  You can find them at the new Objects Library Page here: http://www.return.mistymoorings.com/object_libraries_build/

This is all FREEware. It took Rod Jackson and Steve Weinkamer HOURS and HOURS to do this for the community. Hopefully people will get a lot of use from their effort.  The "nitty gritty" details on how it was done, etc is all on the page for you. We were even able to convert most of the animations (example in the mp4 at the top of the page). Come and get it.

All I can say is a huge Thank You to Rod and Steve for such a selfless effort on their part for the whole community. They know I am sure, just how much enjoyment that so many get from Misty and the scenery. Outstanding!! Tnaks for the update.

Just a question: some sceneries are marked "FSX DX10 P3D Ready" with a green dot (e.g. Big Fall Hydro), most with a red dot (e.g. Aiken Creek). What is the difference? Are the ones with the green dots fully compatible, the others partially? I couldn't find any explanation.

Should misty's place be in the airports menu when planning a flight (after activated scenery of course). Or is it supposed to be so remote I have to find it by flying to the coordinates? Excited to try RTTMM for the first time.

Thanks and cheers Jason.

Of course the readmemistys.txt file included in the download has that information on line five of the document.

IE:

"FSX ICAO Code: "PF20" ("PAPA FOXTROT TWO ZERO")"

Be sure to read the documentation included with the scenery because some location like Misty's have an ICAO code and are present in the 'Goto Airport' screen of FSX and others you need to follow the flight plan included with each scenery to find the destination successfully as there is no ICAO code.

Also in you select Misty's Place from the menu at the top of the page it will bring up 20 menu buttons that help navigate the site.  Clicking on the one labeled Starting Points will give you a list of all the locations available with the Name, Latitude, Longitude, Heading, Type of landing area (water/land/snow etc. and even what ORBX Region is required for the location.

Doug has included more information on the site with links to everything you ever wanted to know about Return to Misty Moorings.  Take some time and investigate what is available on the site and be amazed.
