Big Iron nostalgia.

Back in the day, we saw a lot of this outfit stopping to refuel/change crews at Anchorage.  Less aware of themselves than other airline crews, they received an extra measure of service.  This a KSFO (TE Socal) departure headed for the great circle to the Orient.

Apparently it was the first air cargo outfit in the USA and flew a lot of chartered stuff for the military. Fed Ex eventually bought it for cargo usage. Not sure I got it all right, so more digging might be in order.

In '62 they were hauling through Cold Bay AK with Super Connies and CL44s - destination Southeast Asia.  Even had a crew rest facility there.
