Puppy update

Recommended Posts

Well it's now seven weeks guys, one week away from going to their forever homes. WE still have two to place, so if you're interested, we do express post :D

I don't have many photos of them, my wife has, so if I can prise her phone off her ear, I'll post a couple more tomorrow. Have to admit they are lots of fun and trouble

wish I could post a video, at meal time they scream and yell like you wouldn't believe, until they have a mouth full of food. Their bowl of food lasts about thirty seconds,

and then they run around frantically cleaning up the spilled food - good for me, saves cleaning up. :D

The gold gene was definitely the strongest in the litter. What a bunch of cuties! The household will be very quiet soon Doug.

Cheers

Graeme :)

Thanks Graeme. We were surprised at only getting only two little black guys, Max (daddy) is so big and strong, we figured he would be prominent sperm wise. And they were the first to be sold and lots more enquires for black puppies. Looking forward to the peace, they are VERY noisey.

My wife and I have loved following your saga, Doug, and really enjoyed the pictures. What a bunch of cuties! How's mama?

Thanks Rodger, yeah they are gorgeous, can't help but love 'em. Maggies fine, and visits them every day. She's very patient with them, even when they try to latch onto her nipples. Funniest thing you've ever seen, she walks and they go with her still sucking. Of course nothing there, she is tapped out now. 😀

They look grand indeed Doug and I bet for all their mischief you sure will miss them when they are gone.

Thanks Iain. Miss them? Yes we will, you can't help but get attached to the little sods. Today we opened up part of the house to give them a proper run, and oh boy the cleaning up later, still it was fun to watch them investigate, and then really run for the first time.

Thanks for the updates Don - have been following with interest. You’re obviously going to miss them, but probably not to the extent that Maggie will. Is this her first litter ….. and/or are you likely to go again.  I guess a bit of peace and quiet will be pretty nice for a while. Cheers.

Hi Tom, you're welcome. I will miss them a lot. I sit in with them every day, and they crawl all over me, bite and scratch me, my arms and legs are a mess, but it's all part of getting them used to humans, familiarization is very important, and I wouldn't miss doing it. They are typical puppies and love the attention. Maggie will miss them, she cries   everyday if we don't let her in with them, and it's the funniest thing, they still try to latch onto her, not knowing the "milkbar" is closed, but she humors them, and walks around with them swinging off her titties. 😄 She will sleep with us for a few days until she settles. Will we go again, NEVER! The first few weeks are hell. As a new mum Maggie did well, but still was a bit lost as to what to do, so either my wife or myself had to be on hand to get her in the right position for the puppies to feed, and as they are blind for the first two weeks, if they can't find her nipples by instinct, you have to put them on, they are so helpless straight after birth. It was a team effort, me, my wife and Maggie 😃 Once you can stretch the feed intervals from two hours to around four it helps, sleep is a wonderful thing 😄. The thing with breeding puppies, is the work ongoing, mixing food cleaning up, oh the cleaning up is massive as once they are on solids, it goes in one end and comes out the other almost instantly 🙄we buy puppy pad packs (100) five at a time, and what you have to appreciate is the amount nine puppies do and how they spread it around - they walk through it and sometimes roll in it when they play. Yep I'm gonna miss them, but not the work, and once I recover, I might get time to fly......yeaaaaaa. 😄

Thing is, Don, it's been great following this little miracle. Great entertainment! So we all want you to do it again as soon as possible😁

As I said to Tom, Rodger, it definitely won't be breeding puppies. 🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

All over guys. Last weekend the puppies left us and went to their forever homes. We were very lucky to have very nice caring people to adopt them. 🙂 Yes it was a sad day to see them go, I'm a tough old bugger, but had to swallow hard every time one went the door. When you are caring for them and feeding them four or five times a day, ❤️you can't help but get an attachment to them, and of course lab puppies are so cute that doesn't help. But they are now gone, and we can put the tissues away 😂.

Don this has been a fantastic post mate thank you for doing this.

Well done in caring for these little bundles of fun and a sad day to see them go but just think of the joy and fun they will bring to their new owners.

cheers

Good one Don. As Iain says they're going to bring joy and companionship to their new owners. It's been great following your reports. Best wishes to their grandparents and Maggie.

Thanks Iain, it's been fun to share our experience with you guys and I think a couple of gals. Although we wouldn't do it again, we wouldn't have wanted to not do this, it a real experience in life. To see those little wet things when they were born and watch them develop into those gorgeous fluffy bundles of joy, is something I'll remember for the rest of my life. We have a lot of photo's that I'll revisit over and over. My wife asked me if I wanted mate our standard poodle with Max our lab, not sure what they call them, Ladoodles or something, and I asked her how a divorce sounded 😧and then reminded her about the two hour feeds she would have to do - she had a quick change of heart. But having said all this, I loved everyone of them, and feel a little privileged that I got to have this experience.

Don, we will miss them too. Thanks for letting us be part of the saga. It was fun and touching.

Our pleasure Rodger, sharing our journey with you has been a lot of fun and nice to have the company of you all along the way. I feel a bit sad that our old friends that are no longer here I couldn't share this with. One of the things I learned from this, I'm 85, and you are never too old to experience the miracle of life. 🙂

Yes a truly great experience for us all …. thanks again Don.
How is Maggie holding up?

She is about as good as can be expected. I really feel for her, she keeps running into the puppy room looking for them, sniffs around picking up their scent. I think it will take about another week before she settles and realise they are gone. Meantime my wife and I are giving her lots of attention, cuddles and treats. I know we won't, but I wouldn't do this to her again, breaks my heart watching her looking for her puppies. 😟 I would never make a breeder, I'm too soft. I have just dismantled the birthing box and put it in the garage, I think this will help her as their scent will be gone. Thanks for your interest.

We have a friend who is blind and has a Lab. She has a new one, her previous dog (who is the splitting image of our Max) has been retired, he has done his job for her and is now having a well earned rest.

Hey I forgot to tell you guys that Maggie had to have a "C' section to deliver her puppies. She was in labour for twelve hours, vet said too long bring her in now. Interesting thing is that when they have a "C" section they don't know what/who the puppies are, my wife and I spent a few hours gently rubbing them on her so they had her smell, even then it took her a bit to work out they were hers. From that point on, she became the best Mum.🙂❤️

Companion dogs? No way, I don't have it in me to do that. They are special, LIz takes hers everywhere, even on planes. She lives in Tasmania and she fly's over to see us. Marty just curls up at her feet and goes to sleep. Love dogs ❤️

Cutest of pups Don, labs and golden retrievers are my favourite,

yet I'm a cat lover. So long as they are looked after and loved

that's the main thing.:)

cheers
