olderndirt
The venerable DHC6 - Southampton to Alderney. Departing Southampton. Crossing the docks - left from there in '53 on the liner SS United States. The Needles at the west end of the Isle of Wight. Approaching Alderney.
andiflyit
Hi, No. 1 is a nice and sharp shot of the aircraft, which model is it?
VH-KDK
One of the highlights of travelling by train to Waterloo from Bournemouth in the 60s was looking to see which of the liners were in at Southampton. I can remember seeing the United States on one occasion. In 1958 I arrived from New York on the Queen Elizabeth. A very pleasant way to travel if you can put up with the motion of the ocean! adambar
Nice set of shots OND. I've traveled by train, plane and civilian cruise liner, but my preferred method is buy SUV by far. Planes - to much of a PITA nowadays. Train - to confining and boring. Ship - to regimental and boring, had more freedom and fun on the Navy ship.
