They're an important element in the scenery at lest for the ones of us who explore the product in depth with the avatar. Currently many developers are using even human photos for their avatars that make them look very realistic. I understand avatars is not the priority of Orbx or the nature of the game but could we at least make them a bit less ugly, please?
