NSW ORBX/OZx gathering

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, if not Mods please move it to the correct place.

When VOZ was all the rage a group of members had a gathering at the St George Rowers Club. A great night was had by all and it was good to put faces to nicknames. At one stage there was even a Rogues Gallery on the old VOZ forums.

I have been thinking maybe the OZx and ORBX forum members could have a get together somewhere in Sydney. Perhaps a daytime gathering somewhere where we could have a BBQ and bring the family. Or maybe a night time gathering which would require a booking somewhere and a lot more planning. In some cases it would mean members having to find overnight accommodation.

Any input as to what we shoud try would be great. I will put my hand up but will need some help with the organising as I am not a Sydney local.

Maybe members in other states can do the same thing

What do you think. You never know you may even get to meet JV and the Batman .

Cheers

Pat

Not to hijack your post Aussieman, but rather than duplicate the post, I'd love to also see a VIC meetup..  Heck, I've been playing with the idea of a flightsim club down in the Melbourne area for a while...bring my PC, do some tutorials, fly some planes etc..  Heck, what does everyone think of the ideas.. :D  lol

David, I would be in that! I look after my 81 y.o. housebound foster mother, and I could not get to Sydney

Sounds good.In Oct.2006 I attended a Flightsim Expo at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast which I enjoyed very much.Been thinking it would be great to have a similar event or a forum get together in the near future.

Perth W.A.,any interest? Sydney,Melbourne is ok for me.

Cheers,B_F.

Hi Pat,

It sounds like a good idea to me, even though im in Brizzy.

Last year i went to the Flight sim expo, and that was a great event. The people you got to meet and products you get to see, was great.

Every tuesday, I join a multiplayer session, where we do flights around the world mainly in the pmdg 747, and you learn a lot, from talking to other simmers.

I doubt i would be able to get to sydney or melbourne as im only 14 and, only been on a plane 1 when i was little. And my family find it a tad expensive to fly to melbourne ::)

Cheers,

Dylan

I would like to thank all you wonderful people who hijacked this thread. It was started with the intention of organising a get together for our NSW members. But it appears the Mexican brigade continue to do what Victorians do to things NSW.

As of now I am no longer interested in a get together in NSW. Thank you everyone.

Cheers

A little insight for you Pat...

Last Sunday, February 28th, I asked Jay to organise a post-release drinks session at the Rower's Club. This was to be purely a private drinks session for Orbx staff to relax after what was a hectic lead-up period to PNW's release. Matt Tomkins and I intended to fly up to join our northern colleagues.

So in fact, my request to Jay to arrange a meeting at the very same venue pre-dates your post by about 3 days - very much a nice coincidence.

In light of your post, I asked Jay to open it up to anyone of our customers who wish to attend, be they in NSW, ACT or anywhere really. We've been working around Jay's busy work roster and we are still not 100% sure of the day and time.

So really, your "mexican" and other comments are really unecessary, and have irked me somewhat. Please try next time, to engage brain before putting mouth (or keyboard) in gear.  And indeed, if other folks were inspired to organise similar meetings in other states, surely that is a good thing too?

John, my brain was well and truly engaged when I made that post. When I started this thread I was not aware of anything else being organised and was interested in organising something for the forum members to enjoy a bit of a get together. I am just disappointed about the way it drifeted to everything but the inteded subject.

If my post has struck a raw nerve then I apologise.

As for mentioning the Rowers Club it is because I remember the great night we had there a few years back. I also mentioned meeting at a park somewhere so it could become a family day.

Cheers

Pat

  • 3 months later...

Are there any FTX English based customers/developers who fancy meeting up in London for a pint? I wish I could attend in Australia and I love a pint and all (being an Irish man of course), but perhaps the land downunder might be a little too far for me to travel this time;D

I have to say though it is fantastic to meet fellow flightsim enthusiasts. I had a wonderful experience when I was stuck in British Columbia for an extra two weeks over Easter thanks to the Iceland eruption. I met up with one of the guys from this forum with his wife for dinner and they even invited us to stay with them for a night whilst we were stuck there. It was a lovely experience with two lovely and very kind people who I hope I can return the favour to one day and certainly will see again in the future. So FTX does indeed bring people together from across the world. It was also great as we both agreed at the time to finally meet other people with a passion for flight simming. Without sounding cheesey, simming is almost a way of life in our free time and a real pleasure when you meet others who are involved!

So to finish, if anyone would like to organise something on this side of planet earth, I'm up for it!

Cheers

Steve
