Finni Hansen
So they figured they had a problem, and diverted to a nearby airport. The heading makes it seem much worse - that they travelled half across the globe in the wrong direction.. This would hopefully be questioned by atc if it actually happened though. Funny how such a small entry can cost thousands of dollars!! (and probably shame) :'D

bernd1151
First I thought, hey they had done that already once. Are they insane? But when reading the article, it was obvious. It was the same flight that had happened in March 2015!

Had you already heard about it before? BTW, this somehow reminds of MH370.
bernd1151
Yes, I already heard about it a few days after it had happened. MH 370 is still a big mystery. Will it ever be known, what really happened. I don't know.
Stillwater
Shouldn´t they notice that error when checking the fuel prediction - an action that is essential in case you like to survive? And don´t the go through the legs stepwise before pushback? OK, we do not know the details, but it reads really confusing.
bernd1151
Air Asia is one of the worst airlines in Asia, many of their pilots are former Indonesian fighter jet pilots. Maybe they don't care too much about following proper procedures
chumley
Read the full ATSB report rather than the highlight pickings by the journalist and be fully informed. Not only did the aircraft end up being diverted to Melbourne but after takeoff it veered across the intended departure path of an aircraft lined up for take off on 16L. ATC held the aircraft on 16L.
