A note on Tapini and mesh

A great day to fly with ASN live weather, TrackIR and Ant's Drifter from TAP to FNE.

After falling off the end of the runway at TAP I managed to regain control and start working my way through the valleys to FNE.

You can't see them in this screeny but there's a pair (or 3) of some large eagle like birds to the left and slightly below the wind screen - couldn't zoom in fast enough to properly resolve them.

Finding these landing strips on the fly is really challenging.

Landing once your in position is really, really challenging, as in, "are you kidding me?".

Finally come to a stop well below where I should have but notice the floating grass as I look to my right. See the white rock?

In the above shot I had both PNG Holgermesh and FSGlobal Ultimate Asia/Oceana engaged in the scenery library.

I then disengaged the FSGlobal and...

I'd venture a guess that the FSGlobal has a higher resolution but that doesn't always equal a better look especially with custom A/P's like this.

Just something I noticed that I thought I'd pass on.

This is real fun flying! Great job fellas.

If you are using FSX & have thermals set to Natural then you will see a few eagles where the thermals are. Hard to pick but they are usually lurking areound there somewhere.

I've not yet seen any in P3D so I'm not sure if they are there or not however expect they are as the same setting exists in that sim also.

So, todays flight from FNE to WTP was uneventful and WTP has a pretty nice strip for landing, then it was on to ONB. As I approached ONB I had to pause the sim I was laughing so hard. I fly past to see what it looks like from the north.

I flew past the strip and turned around again, the approach from the north looks to be up slope which could help getting my speed down quickly if I managed to hit the ground on the knifes edge. But the plane and my ability to keep it airborne at this altitude is getting very iffy.

I decide if I'm going to stall at this altitude, best to be headed down-slope, so I turn around agian. As I fly my down wind leg it looks like the birds might get me before the ground does. Nope, better be landing from the sourth.

Too high, to hot, and diving for the deck as I'm losing engine power and stability.

Looks wide enough at this point.

This looks much better than it was.

I taxi to the center of the strip to make it look like I know what I'm doing for this final shot.

Yes, the soaring vultures riding the thermals also exist in P3D.  I see them fairly often...  Though not quite as often or 'close up' as I was accustomed to in FSX.

FLighT, thanks for posting those nice shots -- AND for turning me on to Ant's Drifter!  I've been wanting a simulated ultralight that's a bit more like the Phantom X1 I'm planning to buy later this year, and hadn't found anything so far.  So I'm downloading that one now!  Looking forward to trying it!

I had a blast checking out all seven of the TAP package "airports" (a very optimistic euphemism in some cases!) in the A2A Cub today.  Because I do all my flying in the Rift now, it's not practical to post screenshots of my adventures anymore -- but MAN, what a thrill-ride!!  And beautiful countryside!  I'll be spending several days here before returning to my circumnavigation of Australia.  (I *hate* winter, and tend to spend the cold, dull months someplace warmer via virtual escape!)  Thank you ORBX for yet another gift of adventure!

Okay, final shots from my Tapini tour. Took off from WTP, Woltape. It takes time and patience to climb to close to 10,000ft in the Drifter maintaining 53 knots for a steady ascent and hunting for notches in the mountain ridge lines to scrape my planes belly over before dropping down into Yongai.

Checking out the situation at KGH, Yongai. How did I ever manage before TrackIR5!

Yep, this looks like trouble. And at this altitude the controls are a might mushy in response.

2016-3-4_7-30-50-268.jpg

I overshoot my line. Coming in sideways and cockeyed.

2016-3-4_7-51-47-11.jpg

Helmet cinched up tight and mouthpiece firmly clenched between upper and lower jaw.

Ready for impact!

2016-3-4_7-51-49-332.jpg

After repairs to the plane and my face it's off to finish up at ASB, Asimba.

2016-3-4_7-57-43-488.jpg

Gotcha', you blasted buzzard. Eagles everywhere on the way down to Asimba.

2016-3-4_8-0-56-894.jpg

Another strip that looks like best chance for landing success is from the other side and upgrade. Nice rapids.

2016-3-4_8-11-1-321.jpg

On final, and at 1500 feet the plane is much more responsive at this altitude.

2016-3-4_8-12-11-825.jpg

Touchdown!

2016-3-4_8-12-33-938.jpg

And the crowd on the right goes wild!!!

2016-3-4_8-12-42-438.jpg

Well, this package is about as much fun and as challenging to fly as possible for a low and slow bush flyer.

I highly recommend it!
