  1. That takes me back I did the first half of that Air New Zealand flight many years ago ANZ1 LHR-LAX-LHR, used a load of Air Miles and upgraded to Business Class both ways. It was a great flight, upper deck of B747-400.

Sadly Air New Zealand now longer fly the route and the B747-400 have gone.

In some areas of the world Google looks better in other areas Bing looks better.

Since Bing is owned by MS, I cannot imagine that Google will ever happen.

    Hi

Forgive me but I don’t understand your comment ref:

‘I cannot imagine that Google will ever happen’

The app allows you to use Google Maps if you wish, the parts of the world I have flown over with Google look ok, but as you say I’m sure Bing must have some areas that are equal to or even better than Google.

Good point John , no changes for me . I have my sim running very good and I don’t want to muck it up .

Hi out of interest, it operates separately to MSFS and stands outside of its folder structure. The developer seems to update often (to cover Sun updates etc). As long as you don’t start it running MSFS will always use Bing unless told otherwise.  I was cautious as my sim runs great and did not want to mess it up, but it hasn’t for me. I’m very cautious about only wanting mods that can go in the Community Folder so I can remove quickly if I have faults. This is better as it stands outside it and you have to select it to Run first. I was not aware MSFS removed postings about it in there forums but obviously I understand why. As I said earlier if you do have some spare time it’s worth a try. Like the rest of you I’ve spent lots replacing default with Orbx etc. Once Orbx repopulate the World do you think we will be happy (and poor)?

  4. Hi

I am a big fan of everything Asobo have done in bringing us MSFS.

However, I noticed a freeware product on another popular download website where a small app. can be used and basically instead of streaming Bing Maps to MSFS it streams Google maps.

The argument been is that Google maps are much more detailed than the majority of Bing maps.

I had a few hours spare so thought I would try it out as an experiment. (sorry no screenshots).

I have to say I am amazed at the difference in quality, especially with roads etc. You can see the white line (yellow boxes, even place names written on the road to advise you which lane to get into at a junction, Stop and Slow etc (UK roads).

I feel I can fly even lower and don't get a reduction in quality, basically flying over roof tops.

Be warned, big cities like NYC you may not notice a difference as Bing use higher quality maps there.

Anyway, I would recommend trying if you have a few hours spare, I'm sticking with Google maps for the moment its won me over.

Please watch the video to explain how to set up (its easy, do NOT minimize the x2 program windows just let them run in the background and it will work).

Hi, Asobo finally managed to extend the log file to see which file is giving errors. If you go to MSFS and the Content Manager, you can delete the Asobo 103 solo livery and the error will be gone ;)

Thank you most kindly for your answer. I had come to a similar conclusion myself but nice to have someone else confirm as well. Whilst in Content Manager I deleted all the Solo, Xbox and Test Pilot liveries as well. This got me 3-4GBs of extra SDD space. I’ve kept the fictional airlines liveries such as Pacifica etc as I believe they are require for the AI Traffic aircraft. Just loading MSFS up again now to see if it’s all worked. Thanks.

  6. Hi

My MSFS is working fine and I have all the current updates etc.

However, in the LocalCache Folder I have noticed a text file called 'BuilderLogError.txt'

The date of it is always the last date I opened MSFS.

It has the following one line in it repeated 19 times:

    Could not open file: 'SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_103Solo_SmallWheels\model\103solo_cockpit.xml'

I am guessing something is missing - has anyone else come across it or know what its all about/how to fix?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks! I've been getting CTDs at DCA since SU6 so hopefully the update will fix it

Hi the patch won’t fix the CTD.

I originally posted on there about CTD, if you go to their homepage there is a red box at the top of the forum page explaining a work around for the CTD (it does work, I’ve tried it) Asobo have confirmed the fault and a fix will be released with SU7.

  8. I have bought Auckland City today and received a discount due a NZ Mesh owner. Not had time to fly it yet, but agree some of official photos were not the best I’ve ever seen. However, fellow forum member screenshots that have been appearing all day today did persuade me to purchase.

    Will report back tomorrow.

  9. Thank you Gentlemen for your comments.

@Nick I kept a copy of the original Usercfg file which was pre WU6 update. If I reinstall that then restart MSFS should it change it?

I am only concerned if WU6 or the recent Hotfix changed items in the file which may be of benefit. MSFS is actually running fantastic for me at the moment.
