  1. Wolfko I also purchased the DVD version. So like you am a little concerned. After 4 months of trying I finally managed to get my son an Xbox X for his birthday in early July. So the Xbox X MSFS release date works well for me. I’m thinking MSStore shows my DVD version as a purchase because I had to enter the serial number in once on first install so should class me as having a copy. Fingers crossed.

  2. Hi Nick

    Thank you for your reply.

PCPilot Magazine quotes ‘installation footprint’ which I took to mean installation size on my SDD.

However, your explanation make more sense, that they have optimised the download file size but once extracted and installed it is the same size as old.

As ever thanks for the clarification.

  3. Hi

I read in PCPilot magazine that with MSFS Sim Update IV, that the File Structure has been significantly optimised, reducing the size of the simulator installation footprint from 170GB to 83GB.

In my simple head I read the file size is halved so if I uninstalled my current version and installed the new version I would free up 87GB of valuable M2 SDD, so more space to purchase more Orbx Scenery.

If the same program now takes up a smaller amount of space then surely the load up times and access times are going to be quicker possibly resulting in a smoother operating MSFS?

Am I interpreting this correct, I welcome comment or correction.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Hi Jon thanks for your answer. I’ve been working with the Mesh developer to try and assist him. Sadly he doesn’t own Orbx KORS scenery so has hit a stop. If Ed is able to comment it would be nice but appreciate they are busy and I am commenting about a freeware file Orbx have no input to.

If Ed is about to offer a description of what ORBX_ORCAS_MSFS_SHAPE_FILES.BGL does it may be of assistance

    Thanks in advance

  5. Hi

I wondered if someone may be able to assist me please.

I am using a freeware file which provides 10m Mesh for the whole of Vancouver Island. (downloaded from Flightsim.to - planeguy04-vc-island-full) It is very good, but I have noticed an issue, Icebergs out to the east in the sea from Victoria and high cliff areas around the Victoria area.

I have carried out some investigation and found that when the freeware 10m mesh is used on its own I have no issues, when used with all my other payware and freeware files in my Community Folder I have the issue. After much research I have found the offending scenery, it is Orbx KORS (Orcas Island).

Further investigation carried out and I have found that the offending file within the Orbx KORS > Scenery > World > Scenery > ORBX_ORCAS_MSFS_SHAPE_FILES.BGL. If I remove this .BGL file everything then seems fine with the exception of a few floating cars around the KORS Harbour car park.

Is anyone at Orbx able to offer assistance as to why this file should cause such mesh issues around southern Vancouver Island? or if a fix could be supplied.

    Thanks in advance.

Icebergs East of Victoria heading towards Orcas Island. - As I fly near to them they pop out of sight as if to go back to normal levels.

  6. Ref. my above comment I have now done the following as I didn't want to keep using the DVD#1 Disc all the time incase it got damaged:

This fix is available on the MSFS Forum that I quote below for those who are not aware:

Hi everyone. My boxed DVD version arrived yesterday. Like many customers I would prefer not to use Disc 1 each time I fly MSFS. So here is a workaround:
Create a new folder. It can be any name.
    2. Copy and paste into the new folder these four files ONLY from Disc 1:
    -ISSetup.dll
    -setup.inx
    -0x0409.ini
    -0x0410.ini
    3. Create an ISO file out of that folder with any name you want (doesn’t have to be MFS DISK 1). There are open source ISO creators available. Windows 10 can open ISO files but not write them without third party support. I had success with WinCDEmu.
    4. Each time before you run MSFS, first mount that new ISO file. The assigned letter and type of media (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, etc.) don’t matter. Make sure the virtual disc shows up in File Explorer before you run the sim. Check in This PC and make sure the assigned drive letter shows up.

That’s it. The ISO file is 2.18 MB which is a lot better than the over 7 GB that a full ISO copy of Disc 1 would have taken up. You can confirm it works if you see a small circle on the lower right after you press any key to start in the simulator. The disc check takes place between that press-key-to-start and the online search for updates.

Note that I did this using the English language DVD set. If you have a disc set in other languages and my instructions above doesn’t work, try adding all the 0x04… files since they are used for language support. I don’t think you will really need to, but I could be wrong.

I called my ISO file MSFS Start No DVD - Double Left Click it to Mount then hit MSFS Icon to start MSFS. When I've finished playing MSFS I go into Window Explorer and select the CD-ROM Drive (which I've called 'F') right click it and select Eject. Its as simply as that. I can live with this much easier than inserting discs and the work around from the Digital Ownership is fine for me. Iain I think you started this post originally I hope this info is of assistance.

    Hi,

If you navigate to the following drive:  C:\ProgrammeFiles\WindowsApps there should be a folder called "Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.16.2.0_X64_8WEK.....".  Right click on this folder and select "Properties". In the new window select the "Security" tab and select "Edit" to edit the permissions.  From there you should be able to highlight the Administrator account and add Full Control permissions to the folder for Admin.

Please note the above path is where it installed from MSStore purchase.  I am not sure if the path is the same for STEAM?

    Hope that helps

Thanks Rich that fixed it for me :)
