  1. Over the years I've been lucky enough to have met a couple. Bing Crosby, Clint Eastwood, and Rosemary Clooney were among them. But I can't say I ever "knew" them. I don't think a one-minute "nice-to-meet-you" conversation qualifies. But I can say that I knew Arnold Palmer. For several years I coordinated corporate donations of personal computers to his children's hospital in Orlando. And played lot of golf at his Bay Hill Club . Arnie was a truly great guy. His empathy and feeling for people was unbounded. He did an enormous amount of charity work and did almost all of it anonymously. He didn't want recognition. He already had that. All he wanted to do was help the folks in need. Especially the children. R.I.P. Arnie. You were one of the good ones.
  2. I went to dinner last night at the house very old friend's friend. In the course of the evening I learned that they both went to the same high school. Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn. I guess that it was inevitable that the conversation would turn to Barbra Streisand. She also went to Erasmus High. And graduated in the same year as my friend's friend, 1959. After a couple of drinks, the host brought out a picture. Taken on the set of a movie titled The Way We Were. It was of the two primary actors, Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford. And it was signed by both of them. With a special notation from Barbara remembering their high school years. Wow!
  3. Absolutely true. The bass line IS the music. Ever see folks stomping their foot to the music. That's the bass line they're hearing. When I learned to play the piano over 70 years ago the first thing I was told is that all popular piano is based on the left hand. The "bass" hand. Down with rap.
  4. Just an aside. When my son is on stage he often wears a tee shirt with these words imprinted thereon..... "I don't need to know how to read music. I'm the bass player".
  5. There were several over the years. Probably the best, and the best known, was Al Viola. He was with Dorsey back in 1940-42. It was there he met one of the new crooners - a guy named Francis Albert Sinatra (otherwise known as Frank) and established a lifetime friendship. Sinatra often described Viola as "the greatest guitar player in the world". https://fromthevaults-boppinbob.blogspot.com/2020/06/al-viola-born-16-june-1919.html .
  6. My oldest son. He plays bluegrass in and around Nashville. Takes after his father ....Doug
  7. A senior citizen drove his brand new Mercedes to 100 mph, looking in his rearview mirror , he saw a police car behind him. He floored it to 140 , then 150, ... then 170, ... Suddenly he thought, "I'm too old for this nonsense !" So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him . The officer walked up to him, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in ten minutes. Today is Friday and I'm taking off for the weekend. If you can give me a good reason that I've never heard before for why you were speeding. I'll let U go." The Man looked very seriously at the police man, and replied "Years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman, I thought you were bringing her back." !!! The Cop left saying, " Have a good day, Sir"
  8. My trusty Apple IIE. The Bell and Howell edition. Also known as Darth Vader because it was all black. My son still has it. Along with both disc drives and an ember-screen monitor. I have no idea what I paid for it back then but I hope he never finds out what it's worth today because he probably won't own it long. Add-in the two original Apple disc drives and the monitor and, unbelievable: https://www.ebay.com/p/8046814097?iid=144091643604
  9. I probably saw you there . My wife and I were both raised in Monterey and, though we'd then moved to Sacramento, we went "home" for the festival. Her parents lived about 6 miles from the fairgrounds (out Hwy 68 toward Salinas) and it only took us 7 hours to get back to their house. Speaking of Jimi:
  10. She graduated from high school in 1960. I danced with her that night for the last time. By then she'd found another guy. At 9:32 I kissed her on the cheek and walked out the door. I never saw her again She was the only woman I've ever really loved. She's gone now but my memories of her and this, our last song, will live on in my heart forever.
  11. Dregs don't recognize drags?
  12. I have everything installed into P3Dv5 except 12 airports and two TE regions. What I have installed takes up 520GB.....Doug
  13. Time to resurrect The Rules: 1. The Female always makes The Rules. 2. The Rules are subject to change without notice. 3. No Male can possibly know all The Rules. 4. If the Female suspects the Male knows all The Rules, she must immediately change some of The Rules. 5. The Female is never wrong. 6. If it appears the Female is wrong, it is because of a flagrant misunderstanding caused by something the Male did or said that was wrong. 7. If Rule #6 applies, the Male must apologize immediately for causing the misunderstanding. 8. The Female can change her mind at any time. 9. The Male must never change his mind without the express written consent of The Female. 10. The Female has every right to be angry or upset at any time. 11. The Male must remain calm at all times, unless the Female wants him to be angry or upset. 12. The Female must, under no circumstances, let the Male know whether she wants him to be angry or upset. 13. The Male is expected to read the mind of the Female at all times. 14. At all times, what is important is what the Female meant, not what she said. 15. If the Male doesn't abide by The Rules, it is because he can't take the heat, lacks backbone, and is a wimp. 16. If the Female has PMS, all The Rules are null and void and the Male must cater to her every whim. 17. If the Male, at any time, believes he is right, he must refer to Rule #5.
  14. My wife wants to know if that's just the introduction.
  15. I'd love to be around to see what you think about age having anything to do with it when you're over 80 .
  16. You can install FS2020 on either the M.2 or one of the SSD's. From a performance standpoint there is no noticeable difference between the two. Nice system BTW.
  17. And remember also, it's their forum. Over the years I've had several posts deleted. To me they looked fine. And yours looked fine to you. But we wrote them so of course we'd think they are fine. But not everyone sees things the same way. What you or I think is fine and within the rules is of no importance. The moderators will make the ultimate decision as to what stays and what goes. And they do a damned fine job of it.
  18. Why do the women always look better at closing time?
  19. Glad to see it's all sorted out. Welcome to the forum(s).....Doug
  20. I've only been to one game at Chavez Ravine. And that was so long ago I can't even remember when it was. Not long after the park opened though. From where I lived it took almost seven hours to get to Chavez - it was an overnighter. But I could get to Candlestick in less than 90 minutes. I saw a lot of Giants games .
  21. I've always been a Dodgers fan also. But that fascination goes back to Ebbits field in the early 1950's. Even though I lived in California I loved the Dodgers. In Those days we could only watch The Game Of The Week on TV. That's right, only one baseball game a week was on TV. And that was on CBS. Guess who owned the Yankees back then.....yep CBS. So, we got to watch A LOT of Yankees games, as in almost every week. But my heart belonged to Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella, Don Newcomb and all the rest of the guys from Brooklyn. To this day I hate the Yankees .
