  1. Hello,
    it looks like the startup smoke effect is remaining active.
    In the aircraft.cfg file, you will find
    startup=fx_AH_Hurricane_Mk1_EngStart
    You could try commenting that line out, like this:

    //startup=fx_AH_Hurricane_Mk1_EngStart

    I am not able to replicate this, either when I wrote my earlier reply, or now.

    Hello,

    Here is what needs to be done.
    First, disable the SODE automatic update.

    1. if you have version 1.8.0 installed by Orbx Central, uninstall it and delete the whole C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Orbx\SODE folder.

    2. if you have not yet installed SODE Version 1.7.1, do so now, using your Installer_SODE_v1.7.1.msi file and into its default location.

    3. run SODE and register it.

    4. close SODE, open your Windows Registry Editor, go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\12bPilot\SimObject Display Engine\Version
    and modify the value to 1.8.0.0

    5. Job done.

  3. Solution for using SODE version 1.7.1 with no Orbx Central update notification

    Hello Mark,
    the idea is good, but as SODE 1.7.1 cannot be installed by Orbx Central, there is no version text file for Orbx Central to read.

    However, it got me thinking and it looks like Orbx Central in fact looks in the Windows registry for the version number.

    Here is what needs to be done.
    First, disable the SODE automatic update.

  4. Hello,

    you could try running P3D, and while it is running, manually save the file.
    Or, you could try manually adding the entries.
    The file is C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\add-ons.cfg

    The required entries are

    [Package.xx]
    PATH=your drive letter:\the path to your Orbx Central Library\p3dv5\ENCN Kristiansand Airport
    ACTIVE=true
    REQUIRED=false

    and

    [Package.xx]
    PATH=your drive letter:\the path to your Orbx Central Library\p3dv5\LDSP Split Airport
    ACTIVE=true
    REQUIRED=false

  5. Hello Mark,

    the problem lies in the way that Orbx Central detects whether an update is needed, or not.
    Each product has a version text file and that version text file's version number must match the one stored at Orbx Direct.
    It doesn't matter if the version is lower or higher, only that it is different.
    This was done on purpose, so that if necessary, products can be "rolled back", as well as updated.

    In an ideal world, SODE version 1.8.0 would work as expected, but as you say, it doesn't and in my experience,
    it doesn't work in FSX either.

    If Orbx Central were amended to install SODE 1.7.1, then everyone who is using 1.8.0 would receive an "update" message
    instead.

    The only practical solution is to disable the automatic updates, either for all products, which I have always done, or just for SODE.

    You will indeed be left with the red update notification at the top, each time that you open Orbx Central, but unless there
    is at least a 2 there as well, it can just be ignored.

  6. Hello Rodger,

    here in the UK, we have a different education system to yours.
    I went to three schools, one from the age of five to seven, the next from seven to twelve and the third from twelve to seventeen.
    After that, I went to a polytechnic college from the age of eighteen to twenty.
    Then I went to work.

    From all four, I have only four friends that I am still in touch with, one who I have known since we were 14 or so years old.
    He was kind enough to be my best man at my second wedding and remains one of my tiny number of best friends.
    Another other is a friend from college, I have known her since we were both 19 or so years old.
    She was my oldest daughter's godmother and we meet for a meal very occasionally.
    The other two are married to each other, having met at college all those years ago.
    They are my youngest daughter's godparents and we don't see them often enough.
    I expect that as we grow up and change directions many times, we all tend to go our separate ways, at least, that is what happened to me.

  7. Hello,
    before we go any further, can you try a complete reinstallation of Orbx central please?

    Here is how to do that:

    1. Open: Orbx Central\Settings\Downloader and note the location of the temporary files.
    In Windows File Explorer, go to that location and delete the Orbx folder.

    2. Close Orbx Central and uninstall it, using the Windows Control Panel

    3. Delete:

    C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\orbx-central-updater and

    C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Orbx\Central

    4. Reinstall Orbx Central from this link:  https://orbxdirect.com/central
