Random errors at start up

Sabre10

Recommended Posts

I've had these sporadic random errors at start up (always after flight selection at the beginning of loading ) since clean installation of FSX-SE (stand-alone) on a clean OS with the following  ORBX software:

- FTX Global Base Pack

- FTX Global openLC Europe

- FTX Global Vector

- EU England

- EU Scotland

+ recent Libraries

These are the screens where the flt loading stops (I put them down in txt):

Cache directory error. Cached file 'orbx\ftx_au\ftxaa_orbxlibs\scenery\orbxlibs_aircraft... missing. Please close and

restart Flight Simulator. Click OK to continue.

SCENERY.DAT file error. Close Flight Simulator, and delete 'orbx\ftx_au\ftxaa_orbxlibs\scenery\orbxlibs_pf2_st... Click OK

to continue

Please notice that the error description text is always cut as you can see above (not enough space in the error window). When I click OK the loading continues and the flight goes unaffected. Sometimes I get similar errors most times not, like about 1 to 4 flights. Usually they revolve around  _au, but I've never installed anything from Australia.

What can be broken here?

Thanks,

Sabre10.

Try going to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\SceneryIndexes,

select all the .DAT files and delete them.

I'll do that, thanks.

There are 170 items: starting Filelist00001.DAT to Filelist00374.DAT and single FilelistIndex.DAT file

I'm deleting them all.

PS: I made a back up before deletion just in case.

First run after deletion and here again:

Cache directory error. Cached file

'orbx\ftx_au\ftxaa_orbxlibs\scenery\orbxlibs_pf2_stat(cut)

missing. Please close and restart Flight Simulator.

Click OK to continue.

Anybody?

Thanks.

Reinstall is the only option left for me?

I'm really intimidated by the volume of work again without any understanding of what may have gone wrong last time (sorry, but no likely ideas or much help given here). I installed fresh OS, installed Steam and FSX-SE, then built up everything ontop. Add to that my installation list and notes, that I always create when I reinstall, I have them in front of my eyes. So it looks like I'll be doing exactly the same thing over again and expecting different results.

Perhaps it's time to convert to another Texture/Vector/LC package v2?

FSX sort of has logic when loading scenery. Upon starting the sim it builds an index of all scenery entries but does not load all of them into the memory. It loads everything in the library within a certain distance of the user and then chooses what to display based on priority within the scenery library and then exclusion files.

This is where I may have this problem with ORBX. Upon starting the sim something seems to go wrong with building ORBX indexes.

(just self-treating only).

Does FTX Central show everything up to date?

If I were you, I would be downloading and installing the free Scenery Config Editor and using it to fix my issues. Have you done a scenery cache flush?

   http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Miscellaneous/Scenery-Config-Editor.shtml

Doug, FTX Central2 shows everything up to date. I've used SCE for quite a while, I'm currently on v1.1.3 version, also insertion point is set in FTX Central2.

What is a scenery cache flush?

Thanks,

Sabre10.

A scenery cache flush is when you go to the scenery library in FSX and put a check in the "Empty Scenery Cache on Exit" box and click "OK"

In SCE go to the "Actions" tab and run through all the actions except "Generate from directory"

Do you have a folder in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft named FSX-SE?

The error seems quite simple, just the solution is evading us.

When FSX loads scenery, it creates an index of it.

Normally, this process occurs without any errors and is part of what

you have to wait for as the black line moves across the white box.

Problems occur if the file structure of the scenery is altered while the

simulator is running and the index no longer matches the scenery files

loaded.

It seems that your scenery index is not being changed when FSX loads.

You can try also going to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\Facilities and

deleting all the files you find there at the same time as deleting all the

Filelist files again.

Unless of course you have FSX-SE folders, in which case you need to

do the same to them.

I've had 'Empty scenery cache on exit' always ticked.

SCE Actions have beend done.

So far so good.

Thanks

Nick, I don't have FSX-SE folders as my SE installation is stand-alone on a fresh OS.

Thanks.

OK, that's good.

Did you try what I suggested above?

Just as a matter of interest, the scenery cache is an old feature,

left over from when people has scenery on CD or DVDs and

unless scenery is loaded from an external source, it is not used.

I think almost everyone keeps their scenery on drives inside their

computers and the scenery is simply loaded straight from there.

A simple check is to look at the scenery cache folder when FSX

is running, it will be found to be empty.

I removed everything from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\Facilities and deleted all files in SceneryIndexes

This is what I got on the first run after that:

SCENERY.DAT file error. Close Flight Simulator, and delete 'uk200 scenery\uk2000 common library\scenery\lib_airliners'. Click ok to continue.

I clicked ok and fsx loaded the flt. I minimized FSX window and checked  out SceneryCache folder, it appeared empty. Facilities and SceneryIndexes were full with the usual files again.

Thanks,

"Clean istall"? I profess?

What is clean istall for you, Doug?

Sabre10.

Ok, after installation of some of my ORBX add-ons (as in my first post) I also installed uk2000 airports ontop, but they were not a factor at all when all these ORBX-related errors started.

Did you mean I should have also mentioned fsuipc, joysticks, ASN and REX4 textures (on a client), scenerytech LC, AS AIRBUS, Amsterdam Schiphol? Indeed, sounds like a serious excuse to split...

Thank you anyway.   :)

PS: btw I've run FSX 5 or 6 times since the last error after cleaning those folders and so far so good, not a single error yet.

Doug, I did not try to install them today but I did put them ontop a few times before as mentioned above.

Thanks,

Sabre,

just moving the ORBX Library entry to the top of the FSX Library is not what is required.  EVERYtime you add scenery to ORBX you should re-install a fresh copy of the ORBX Scenery Library.  With the method that FTX Central v2 uses now it does not retain a copy of the libraries on your hard drive.

Goto to the ORBX Support page:

https://www.fullterrain.com/support

Scroll down to where the ORBX Libraries are and download and save the correct .zip file for your installation.

After saving the zip unzip it and run the Library .exe file, this re-installs the latest libraries into FSX.

By downloading the zip file you have a copy on your HD so it easy to re-install when adding scenery.

FTX Central v2 will notify you and install a newer library whenever it is updated by ORBX.

This should indicate to you that its time to once again grab a copy of the latest libraries using the above proceedures.

Yes...the more info the better...it helps us get a better understanding of your setup and the many unique possibilities that could be causing your issues...:)

Spud,

I always run ORBX libraries 3 or 4 times after each addition to my FSX. And also do it every now and then to some unfathomable reason. So there's nothing much to add with the libraries.

Just to confirm....you are using the FSX version libs, not the P3DV2 libs?

Yes, Doug, absolutely. I haven't mentioned though I've used ORBX's FSXGo to start FSX, and always off-line (FSX-SE thingy). I'll try to run without FSXGo for a while.

Hi Doug,

FYI you seem to be missing the _EUROPE10 entry, which is the Iceland component of openLC EU.

Cheers, Holger

Hi Holger

I found it...it  ended up lower in the scenery library some how hahaha!

Thanks

Doug

I recall I had a minor problem with Iceland, it somehow came right under ORBX!OPENLC_EUROPE1. I think it was done by one of the enumerators I used like FSTscenery.exe (not sure though, tried it again and FST worked perfect.)

Doug, thank you for the screenshots. My FTX_OLC folder is 18.8GB/19.6GB on disk.

I feel like there's something in the way FSX-SE starts with Steam and exits. Sometimes Steam process doesn't stop with FSX, and FSX closing gets held up by Steam and EZDOK as well. Yesterday when I closed FSX (after a 2hour flight) I saw some message for a fraction of a second about some dat file. And I had never seen it before at closing. I tried to restart FSX, but the message sad Steam was already running, so I had to reboot.

It seems the best results I have after cleaning of Facilities and SceneryIndexes folders is when I start FSX.exe manually, not using FSXGo (but also not 100% proof). Just in case, below is my fsx.cfg modified by FSXGo:
