olderndirt
Those of you, of a certain vintage may recall a western movie of the same name. They made a newer version but the interplay between Glen Ford and Van Heflin was good. Coming out of Thermal CA - their airport named for the great aviatrix Jaqueline Cochran. Starting over the Salton Sea - man-made by default and getting saltier as time goes by. Almost a miracle, the Colorado river once flowed here but a bit of hydro engineering involving dams and canals created the Imperial Valley. To the east lies what the valley once was. Welcome to Yuma AZ - home of what was once the most dreaded prison in the southwest.
