Mach 2
If I un-tick static traffic in ORBX airports, will products such as Traffic 360 or Ultimate Traffic use the opened up gates? Or are they unusable to AI aircraft?
Graham Eccleston
It depends on the particular airport. For larger airports where parking for AI Traffic is a premium, unchecking the statics will switch to a separate APX file with the spots previously occupied by the statics now available. For smaller airports with ample AI parking already available, unchecking the statics will not release additional AI parking spots. Looking at the files in the Orbx airport scenery folder will identify if a separate APX file is available.
Mach 2
Thank you Graham, If I understand you correctly, there should be 2 APX files for an airport if it is AI traffic compatible. I'll take a look at them.
Mach 2
More clarification please I looked at 2 airports with "Static Traffic" options... YMML Melbourne seemed pretty straight forward. Had a check box for Static Aircraft and I found 2 APX files ORBX_YMML_APX.bgl and ORBX_YMML_APX_Single_Runway.bgl.off <---- This must be the switch KMRY Monterey seemed a little more complex because it has 3 options... Airliner Statics Corporate Jet Statics General Aviation Statics and once again, 2 APX files WESTSIM_KMRY_APX.bgl and WESTSIM_KMRY_APX_CVX.bgl So in the KMRY example, would un-ticking the option open up the spaces for just that type of AI traffic? Or would you need to un-tick ALL the static options for the spaces to become available?
Nick Cooper
Hello, as I understand from Graham's answer, there must be two APX files if the parking spaces are freed up. In the case of KMRY, there is only one, the second file you identified is a cvx file and has a different purpose. It looks as if the statics are controlled in a different way, you can turn them on and off but there will be no change in the number of available parking places. Graham Eccleston
YMML only has one or two statics and they are placed well away from the gates so unselecting them does not free up any extra parking spots. The airport should have adequate parking for 100% traffic settings and the FTX AU AI Traffic pack or any other third party AI traffic add-on. It's been some time since KMRY was done but if I recall correctly, ample parking was available for AI aircraft even with the statics selected. The airline parking spots also have airline designation codes hard-coded into them for all carriers serving KMRY. This is by design. - There are ample spots for GA AI traffic too, should your package include it. - If your AI package creates non-real-world "filler" routes, you may max out the parking spots with AI traffic set to 100% - Disabling static options for KMRY will not create more parking spots for you - The purpose of ORBX static aircraft is to complement your personal AI preferences, not replace them. Many of the statics at KMRY were created solely for this airport, are better integrated into the scenery (including ambient shading, interacting with ground vehicles, people, animations etc) and have a drastically lower performance impact than similar numbers of AI aircraft. They are used to "fill out" an aircraft apron alongside AI aircraft with minimal performance penalty. Cheers, Jarrad
