my Aussie hometown is missing!

Recommended Posts

hi Orbx,

i have recently purchased Orbx Australia, Global Base, Vector, Europe & North/South America LC's, with FS Global Ultimate - Next Gen FTX...

i am a new sim flyer...

to my amazement, my hometown of Kyogle, NSW is missing - zero town data!

also to my amazement, it showed perfectly in XP11:Steam - without any add-ons...

why is this the case? - i have invested a $fair bit in your products, & if my hometown Kyogle is missing - when will you fix it?

i also note that a huge amount of $$$'s that are required for your add-ons:-

i would call New Zealand, New Zealand - rather than North & South Island separate add-ons...

same for the British Isles - rather than separate territories...

even the USA is being sliced up by you...

i do not have $thousands to spend on a decent 2017 flight sim - it is a Google world!

i have been into computers for over 30 years & have seen a lot before!

when will you include Kyogle township into Orbx Australia? (& the surrounding landclass is a basket-case, basic XP11:Steam is far superior for my hometown!)

software development is hard work but you must deliver fair value...

thanks for your time & i await your reply,

craig

Hi Craig

I just set up a flight from Casino to Kyogle and this is what I see at the Kyogle waypoint.  Unfortunately landclass does not have the ability to copy a town's layout, all it can do is put a small town set of textures down that is approximately the same size and shape as the actual scenery.  But as Nick has shown above, Kyogle is represented within the constraints of the scenery software.

Be fair Craig, Orbx is a company, with staff  wages, ancillaries and taxes to pay, and working within the constraints of technology ..Can you imagine the time and patience it takes to create even a small area in the sim? If the company did as you suggested they would have gone broke a long time ago Teecee.

i completely agree with you guys that good software takes people, time & effort...

perhaps i am doing something wrong...

but with all my Orbx add-ons & i am now using P3Dv4 as well - i cannot understand why XP11:Steam actually accurately shows my hometown, Kyogle, & environs - so much better (without add-ons)...

if i continue with Orbx - it will $cost me thousands as a personal/flight sim user - i believe in fair play policy - many years of experience...

i also am happy to provide screenshots...

i am happy to pay for quality software - just purchased Active Sky P3Dv4 - but FSX:SE got me going a few weeks ago...

thanks for your time,

craig

hi Nick,

it is obvious to me now that my scenery layers need to be correctly adjusted...

do you have a correct process?

i also note that in FSX:SE i have excessive blue water over landscapes - any tips? (& for the moment turned off DX10 preview mode)...

thanks for your time,

craig

The water may be either because you need to run the

Force Migration on the FTX Central settings page, or

you may have a corrupt terrain.cfg file.

This is the fix for the terrain.cfg file.

FTX Central will set the correct scenery library entries.

Again, the FTX Central settings page.

Use the Insertion Point tool to place the FTX icon either

at the top of the scenery library, or if you have other addon scenery,

just below the lowest of them.

Place the OLC icon just below that and click on Save.

If you have Vector, tick the "I have FTX Australia installed" box and

click on Apply.

thanks Nick!

the Force Migration seems to have fixed the spurious water on landscapes within FSX:SE - also, you will be pleased to know that my hometown appears within FSX:SE - as shown by your screenshots yesterday...

i am perplexed with my new P3Dv4 installation:-

the Orbx sceneries are in completely different priority levels as compared with my FSX:SE Orbx sceneries priority levels - even after i tried Force Migration, & i am thinking of adjusting the priority levels manually...

my P3Dv4 is definitely having problems with my hometown (strange) - & i remember P3Dv4 did a scenery reshuffle of its own accord...

reading the Orbx documentation, it seems the Orbx products are in the following layer levels:-

Global Vector

Global Base

Global Open LC

Terrain Mesh

as you can tell i am new to all this & i am purely interested in getting the flight simulators running correctly...

your advice is most welcome Nick - you have the knowledge & experience...

cheers, craig

good news Nick,

hometown area all working now!

& everything looks correct in Scenery Library...

i am so pleased i have chosen Orbx major products - & your distribution servers work really well for purchased products...

i believe that there will be an Orbx OpenLC package for Australia down the track - is that correct?

there are many good people in the Flight Sim community & some of the best software i have ever seen - pushes my computer to the max & fun & educational...

thanks again,

craig

Tell you what Craig you certainly got one thing right, Nick is extremely knowledgeable and his experience is as good as it gets.  What he doesn't know is not worth knowing.

Regards,

Jim.
