PupaZebu Posted April 18, 2017 Share Posted April 18, 2017 Hey folks, today I was on a beautiful sunrise trip from KSFO to KSMX, which turned into quite an adventure in the end. KSFO was already very busy, even in the ealry morning hours. An astonishing view from the flight deck was the reward for having struggled to the runway... Still one of my favourite places An ocean of clouds was concealing the mountains, except for some peaks. Wonderful. The sky cleared up as I was coming closer to Santa Maria Unfortunately, this thick grey band is exactly above Santa Maria. And wind is coming from the back, so no chance for the ILS approach. The other direction only offers RNAV. This is getting interesting. Decided to test this HUD by handflying the trusty Dash 8 through the mist, but... still no sign of the runway 300 feet above ground I suddenly bursted through the clouds and found my way to KSMX I swear some of the passengers kissed the ground Quite an adventure, but absolutely rewarding!
