scottb613
Hi Folks, Just once again - thank you for your efforts - had a great flight last night form Winter Haven FL to Fernandina Beach FL - VFR... Weather was beautiful... Your efforts are greatly appreciated and open doors to so many places I wouldn't ordinarily fly to... LOL - I can't fly to default anymore.... Thanks one and all on the FTX Global Freeware Airports Team ! Where are you flying to today Regards, Scott Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Jack Sawyer
Hi Scott, what is that app you're using? It is nice that they provide so many freeware airports isn't it? And they have PeopleFlow too. Great stuff!
scottb613
Hi Jack, Yep - they have just enough detail to make them seem plausible and a joy to visit... If you happen to live in North America and have a tablet - FltPlan.com has a full blown FREE tablet app called "FltPlan GO" (apple, android, windows) - it's a real world Electronic Flight Bag that includes your typical moving map software, charts, and plates - with connections to Flight Simulator (FSX/P3D/XP) and is the only source of FREE geo-referenced (approach plates/taxi diagrams) I'm aware of... Best thing since sliced bread in my book and it's FREE... I use it on every flight and it makes IFR Approaches child's play... https://fltplan.com/ Example of Georeferenced Approach Plate If you want to try it - just give me a shout - I'm pretty familiar with setting it up... Jack Sawyer
Thanks Scott! Isn't it staggering how many free airports they give us? I have landed at some out of the way only to be astonished to see all the PeopleFlow, and other Flow on the airport. I always think to myself that when I'm flying over an airport and not landing there, there's activity going on below. Who does this, no one. This is why I'm a huge Orbx fan. Jack Sawyer
Scott, I just got this and got it working on my iPad. I am absolutely amazed this easy to use app is free! And it's so cool! I was just flying in the Bahamas again and it followed my plane perfectly. Thanks you so much man! I LOVE this app! Makes flying around Orbx land MUCH better. Now I can REALLY use it in Orbx's NCA and other places. I have tons of paper maps I got from a real 767 pilots friend but I don't need them anymore. Happy Jack! scottb613
LOL - Happy Jack... Glad you like it - the iPad has pretty much taken over the real cockpits as well - for the very same reasons... I don't know anyone that doesn't fly with one - and most don't carry any paper... Enjoy !!! You should see my flight plan history on FltPlan.com - have pages of sim flights... They make their money on mouse clicks and advertising so they want people to visit their site - hence the FREE... It does seem to add a layer to the sim - as noted in my flight plan posted above - I plan it as if I were going to fly it for real - conscious of terrain, restricted areas, and air spaces... Also keep in mind that FltPlan.com has TONS of real word aircraft performance profiles on the website - I've used them for years before the tablet app - here is the current list: ADVANCED AIRCRAFT Stewart Hobson
May I ask how the iPad is able to interface with the flight sim and does the iPad connect to the computer through a USB port? Curious......

Curious...... Stew, it's so easy even I was able to figure it out. First, download the app. Then you need to go to their site and create a free account. There you will find instructions on how to download an MSI file. Run the MSI Run the app on the iPad. Run the app on the PC Connect and they will sync and it's way cool to see your plane moving along nicely. You can create flight plans in it, you can have all kinds of views, maps, approach plates and it's all free! I have an Ethernet connection on the PC and WiFI on the iPad and they still connected, I think it's done via their web site. It's magic but awesome. scottb613
Hi Stew, The connection is simply a WiFi connection from your TABLET to your PC - so both devices need to be connected to your WiFi... Their little connection app just emulates a GPS antenna and feeds your tablet coordinates from your sim... Regards, Scott

Regards, Scott Hi Scott, I have a direct ethernet connection to my PC and WiFi to the iPad and it works. PC is not set to receive WiFi.
scottb613
Hi Jack, So sorry - you're absolutely correct - yep - wired connections will work as well as long as it's all the same Ethernet segment... Regards, Scott
Jack Sawyer
Thanks for telling me about this freeware gem Scott. Now flying around a dense area like SCA will be a heck of a lot easier. In fact, I'll probably make more stops at the little out of the way places. No more paper maps for me unless I'm outside Canada, US, and South America. Best to ya! Stewart Hobson
Thanks, Scott and Jack. My setup would be similar to Jack's: PC direct connect to my router, tablet cued to the router through wifi. Now all I need is a couple hundred $$ for the tablet! Which up until now, I haven't really had a need for one. Not sure if I want to make the investment yet. My iPhone 7 does just about everything I want it to do, and it ain't cheap, btw.
scottb613
Hi Stew,It works just fine on an iPhone too - just with a bit less real estate... I have it loaded on my iPhone as well...Regards,ScottSent from my iPad using Tapatalk

You can probably pick up a cheap used one on Ebay or buy an iPad mini. You're welcome Stew! And kudos to Scott for another way to really enjoy my flights of fancy in Orbx land. Stewart Hobson
I might try it on the iPhone 7 just to see how it works. But right now I can alt-tab to Plan-G and get a full screen view of the flight route complete with KMZ markers for all Orbx airports and my many 3rd party addon airports, all grouped by regions and/or FTX Freeware airports as the flight requires. So I'll have to see how this works.
