I made a backup of my Registry for FSX Boxed before changing my registry for Steam so I can switch back and forth between the two. The solution that you linked to in the Steam forum is shamelessly copied and pasted from there, without even a credit to its author or origin. Most problems are associated with having or having had FSX boxed and replacing it with FSX Steam. You will find a simpler solution to the problems here.
