Large areas of desert in pacific ocean

Please help!

I have been pulling my hair out for several weeks trying to work out why there's land mass texture of the coast of the Tasman Sea, Pacific Ocean in general and it doesn't matter if I'm flying off the east coast of Australia or off the west coast of North America, e.g. Monterey,  I get this large land mass of desert.

I have followed the pdf attachment 'How to configure openLC scenery library entries' and it made no difference,  in FTX Central 1 and 2 I am selecting the appropriate region (Oceania and Northern California) depending whether or not I am flying in Australia or the US.   I have even made a back up file of the scenery.cfg file and played around with the TRUE & FALSE settings for several scenery files to see if the large mysterious desert island would dissapear out at sea.

It's pretty much a large flat desert coloured landclass that runs parallel to the shoreline and stretches out into the horizon.

This problem only occurs when FTX Global is installed and not with the default FSX scenery!

I appreciate your assistance in solving this annoying bug!

Cheers ::)

Just adding some addition information that might help,   I have reinstalled Coffs Harbour again with all updates.  I searched for similar problems fsx users were having that were related to UTX,  however I don't have UTX.

The other interesting thing is that I flew out to the large mass of land (Desert) several nautical miles off the coast of Coffs Harbour, went to map view and interestingly enough when I zoomed out over the map,  it's like as if a whole chunk of water texture is missing that extends as far as Lord Howe Island.

I don't have the Lord Howe Island DLC installed either!

If anyone knows where I can find the pacific ocean or Tasman Sea texture files for this region in global or FSX in general,  I can search these files to make sure they're activated and not switched off or missing!

Cheers

PS.  I'm looking forward to solving this issue so I can purchase pago pago!  Not game enough to purchase it  at present,  just in case I have the same problem!

Hiya,

If you still have FTXCentral 1 & 2 visible, please ensure you have installed the latest Orbxlibs last of all.  This should delete the shortcut to FTXCentral 1.

Thanks for the info,  but I most certainly have the latest version and always install  this last on top of any new FTX scenery and it has never deleted FTX Central 1.  I have unistalled FTX Central 1 manually,  which is found in the FSX/ORBX/Scripts folder and it made no difference.

I am really desperate for help if one of the developers could assist me and provide me with a solution.  I don't want to have to uninstall FSX completely because I have a lot of FTX add-ons and it will take me a while to get FSX up and running again.

So please if anyone has come across this problem previously and has a solution,  I would be most appreciative for their advice and assistance.

Note:  I went ahead and purchased Pago Pago,  and discovered I get the same problem when island hopping.   It's as if huge sections of the ocean textures are corrupted or have simply dissapeared.  Large rectangular or square shaped water textures that are non existent.  which leaves patches of the ocean with desert textures.

Cheers ::)

Additional info that I have collected

Terrain data file

// Hydro Polygons - Generic Ocean - Perennial
[Texture.199]
Name=Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Ocean_Perennial
Color=FF2938FF
guid={2D103429-89EB-4CB3-A61E-E188E79C77E7}
Textures=OCEAN_SEA_LARGE_LAKE
FlattenMode=slope
FlattenPriority=41000
ExcludeAutogen=Yes
RenderToTexture=Yes
RenderPriority=81000
Water=Yes

Are the above entry details correct?

Hi Jason,

that entry is correct. However, if you're using Vector then it's not necessarily the one used in that area. Does the issue go away if you deactivate the Vector entries in your scenery library menu? If so, check their proper order: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/99093-water-turned-to-land-what-now/?p=896441

If not then perhaps some other add-on contains waterbody excludes. A couple of screenshots might also help with further diagnosis.

Cheers, Holger

Excuse my ignorance,  but how do I save screenshots under this topic.  It won't let me simply copy and paste them in,  nor can I browse my HD directory to select some images to import into this topic when I select the image button!

Hi Jason

You have to transform your screenshot from a .bmp to a .jpg format, upload it to a storage site (I use dropbox), write your post and insert the shot with the image button and the public link of the pic that the storage site gave you.

Hi Holger,

I can finally provide you with a few screenshots that clearly display the missing water texture file or corrupted file!

These shots have been taken off the coast of Coffs Harbour NSW Australia.   I don't have Vector or any of the Vector Scenery Libraries installed. The same problem occurs in Pago Pago in between some of the island,  where I'll come across huge areas of sea that are not there, and have been replaced by large square shaped desert textures.

Cheers ^-^

Hi Jason,

looks like something is excluding the default water polygons in that area. It can't be an issue with the terrain.cfg file because FTX AU calls the same "Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Ocean_Perennial" type and it displays as intended along the coast; the problem starts where the FTX AU coverage ends.

You state that you don't have Vector installed at the moment. Did you uninstall it or never install it? Can you perhaps post screenshots of your scenery library menu so that I can check what you do have installed and in what order?

Hi Holger

Screenshots of scenery library as requested.

The only third party add-on I did have installed a while back was 'Flight Deck' (It was unistalled a long time ago),  which was a US Naval Aircraft Carrier add-on,  but I don't it would have caused the problem, simply because the aircraft carrier patrolled US waters not off the coast of Australia.

There's just a few entries that were continuations of the same scenery libraries (Not any that stood out) that I didn't bother taking screenshots of to speed up the process that were irrelevant.  You'll know what I mean,  when you see the number sequence in the scenery libraries.

Hi there,

hmm, what happened to your numbered base scenery folders? There should be 96(!) of them between "Africa" and "Default Scenery" yet you only have a single one, "0005 Base" remaining.

I'd check in your main \Scenery folder whether those numbered folders still exist. If they do it's probably a good idea to navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX, rename the current scenery.cfg file to .OFF and then copy&paste the default backup of scenery.cfg, situated in the main FSX folder, into C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX, which contains all default entries. Then run FTXCentral and apply "Oceania", which should add all the FTX entries back in. You may need to re-set your FTX insertion point to get the openLC entries back beneath the FTX block but that's still quicker than manually adding 95 missing entries into your scenery library.

If the numbered folders are missing in \Scenery then you'll need to reinstall FSX from scratch.

Cheers, Holger
