Howellerman
Greetings! First off, let me say that NCA is a *beautiful* addition to the Orbx canon. I live here, and where I have explored so the colors and landscape are almost spot on. Just as an example, the color of the farmland south of Watsonville (KWVI) are exactly right, the deep rich brown of tilled earth. Similarly, the colors of the "gold country" along the base of the Sierra, elevation 1 - 3,000 feet, are also spot on. Fabulous! However, in my wanderings I have discovered two missing landmarks in NCA that are present in bog-standard FSX. I find this surprising, to say the least! The landmarks are the Moss Landing power plants south of Watsonville (36.806639,-121.788447, according to Google Maps) and the entire city of South Lake Tahoe, notably the casinos. The Moss Landing power plant is huge, and on a clear day the two smoke stacks are visible from everywhere in the Monterey Bay. Similarly, the gaudy grandeur of the casino @ SLT are hard to miss. First, Moss Landing. Box-stock FSX followed by NCA. Next, South Lake Tahoe. My scenery sliders (P3D1.4) are set at Very Dense and Dense, respectively. Setting them to maximum does not change anything. Curious, yes?
Holger Sandmann
Hi there, thanks for the kind words and our apologies for making the power station and casino go AWOL. When we start building a region we're blanketing it with object exclude files to get a clean slate. While we do place back many of the default objects it's easy to miss some of them -- the biggest one thus far is the State Capitol building in Sacramento meaning CA is a lawless state at the moment Thanks for the heads-up and we'll restore those objects with the NCA service pack. Cheers, Holger
Howellerman
Terrific! Thank you, Holger. The default objects are pretty awful, and I question how the Moss Landing power plants can be plunked on top of your much better appearing "power station". You did such a beautiful job on the Bonneville Dam that I got spoiled. And yes, California does have "issues"...
Breeze
I was just going to ask for the Moss Landing Power stacks be included as it's a prominent land mark visible for miles on Monterey Bay. There is also a sizable marina there also. Moss Landing
TheTallGuy
I can start a new thread for this if that's easier, but it seems like it might be easier to have all the notes in one thread, so here goes. Flying around the Oakland/Berkeley area, I'm not seeing two prominent landmarks: 1. The Oakland Mormon Temple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_California_Temple 2. The big white Claremont hotel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claremont_Resort The two bracket the 24 freeway as it leads to the Caldecott tunnel so they provide useful reference points. If I am just missing them, my apologies. Also -- though not a missing landmark -- my favorite local airport, Palo Alto (KPAO) has a bit of ground texture showing through near the end of runway 31. Looks like a flattened building. I'm loving the NCA region -- though my PNW is probably feeling lonely now. Michael
FireRx
Oh thank you, I was going to ask if there was going to be a service pack to include improvements. Also is anyone else getting the "squiglies" on the pavement at KSFO between 1538 - 800 ft. roughly on the airport grounds? I remember seeing this addressed before but forgotten the solutions for it. TheTallGuy
There is an NCA service pack in the works right now, as I understand it.
Loafman99
Maybe this is a good place to chime in, I can't seem to see a single wind farm in NCA. I'm pretty new to Orbx, so could be user error.
FireRx
there is one wind farm east of Livermore on in the hills off of hwy
TheTallGuy
I believe there is another report about the missing wind farms elsewhere in these forums. I'm assuming these will all be addressed in the service pack. Michael
Holger Sandmann
Hi guys, actually, the point regarding the windfarms in NCA is that there are too many turbines (> 5,000) causing slowdowns on some user systems; see http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/74148-poor-performance-north-of-livingston-nca/?p=680404 If you're not seeing any make sure that you didn't previously deactivate that file and also that you have the current Orbx Libraries installed from our support page. Scott Armstrong
To those of you who were disappointed by the lack of the Moss Landing power plant in NCA, this should make you happy! I'm putting the final touches on a custom model of the Moss Landing PG&E power plant, with a photoreal area for the Elkhorn Slough and surrounding areas. Also included are the missing marinas. This will all be included in NCA SP1, along with many other fixes. Cheers, Scott
aknott01
Wow, nice. I don't own NCA, but not sure how much longer I'll hold out...my wallet hopes you stop posting screen shots.
TheTallGuy
Wow, that looks amazing! I was just there to go whale watching, and that's exactly how I remember it. Michael
