Holger Sandmann
Hi guys, thanks to GeoScience Australia data we're able to include literally millions of individual sand dunes that are raised above the terrain and thus change shadowing throughout the day. There's a great variety of patterns in these dune fields and I actually load the compiled files into the TMFViewer tool (comes with the FSX Terrain SDK) to help with dune spotting Very soon you'll be able to do the same... The water areas in the third image are dry throughout most of the year but for a month or two (usually in January and February) they will be "wet". Cheers, Holger P.S.: make sure you set your terrain mesh slider to 10m because that's the optimum setting for the sand dunes. A lower setting (e.g., 38m) makes them less visible and a higher setting leads to odd-shaped dune "walls".

Barry Meiklejohn
Dunes in the Simpson Desert are generally 10 - 30 metres high (higher to the east) with Nappanerica (Big Red) on the far eastern side near Birdsville being approx. 40 metres. trans_1007
Wow, stunning dunes. I was just comparing those dunes to some other sat pics i have and very if not dead on real. Excellent workmanship in the creation of quality and scenery work.

Set mesh resolution to 10m for the best results though.
